Could anyone advise me of the winter charters this year, what aircraft are operating them and on what days/times?

Additionally, flights OS9365 & OS9366 on Saturdays... will these be Austrian A321 or different?

Many Thanks,

BOHEuropean

Are they able to fill a A321 into BOH from Austria? They dont even use them at some of the larger airports, usually end up with a Fokker or two

They used the A321 into BOH last winter. From the CAA site passenger numbers have been fairly steady:

2004/5 3,280 (B736) average 137
2005/6 3,897 (B738) average 162
2006/7 3,740 (B738) average 156
2007/8 3,877 (A321) average 162

Average pax numbers assume 13 weeks (as it will be in 2008/9) giving 24 flights (the first inbound and last outbound being empty positioning flights).

Bournemouth handled 89 742 passengers in October down nearly 12 % on last year but good considering the 5 routes we lost last year

Top 5 performing routes were

Prestwick 12455
Malaga 11389
Palma 10334
Dublin 9119
Gerona 9112

New routes started this month was Edinburgh , Bergamo and Beauvais with Ryanair

I dont think Ryanair will be basing another aircraft at Bournemouth next year especially with the present climate

I think Bournemouth has done pretty well considering all things with a based Thomson Air , Ryanair , European and Palmair 737 aircraft all complementing each other with various routes throughout Europe plus a strong cruise market in the winter

The best we could hope for i think at the moment is Ryanair probabaly operating more W pattern s ie Gerona , Pisa and Alicante etc

Well unless they cancel some of the routes that they have on sale for summer 2009, they will have to base a second aircraft. A few pages back it gives the details of the over lapping flights. If I remember correctly it's the tue, thu & sat Milan and Palma flights that clash. All show being operated by a BOH based 737.

Flyboh, The initial timetables Ryanair put up for sale are often incorrect and subject to changes and modifications closer to the time. They normally haven't finalised flight times/slots but they put the flights up for sale to make sure they don't lose potential revenue. It is very rare that the first timetable they put up for a base is the actual timetable. I'd say its very unlikely that Bournemouth will get another aircraft next year. The chances are the timetable will be altered so that the Bergamo flights are operated by a Bergamo based aircraft.

The Ryanair timetable still shows two 'based' aircraft departing BOH at the same time on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from April through to the end of June

Palma departs 0955 returns 1455
Milan departs 1000 returns 1420

However this is resolved from July onwards with the dropping of several flights and the rescheduling of others. So it looks like MarkeyD (and en2r) could be right that there won't be a 2nd based aircraft yet.

The Thursday Milan is dropped, the Tuesday departure moves to 0630 and the Saturday to 1545.
Wroclaw changes from Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday to Tuesday, Friday.
Beauvais also reduces to twice weekly (Thursday, Saturday) with the loss of the Tuesday flight.
Nantes appears to be dropped completely after June.

The Pisa services operated by a non-based aircraft also reduces, changing from Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday to Wednesday, Saturday.

So the second half of the summer is currently 7 flights down compared to April to June. This seems a bit odd as 2008 figures show these routes to be more popular in July and August:

Nantes May 2528, June 2519, July 3615, August 3875
Pisa May 3446, June 3023, July 4157, August 4344
Wroclaw May 3412, June 2964, July 4343, August 4214

How is Paris meant to work twice a week on a Thursday and Saturday? Totally useless for weekend breaks, which are surely one of the main markets of the service. Thursday and Sunday would be better, though even that is far from ideal

Unless its something to do with aircraft schedules or routine maintenance for the aircraft (unlikely given its a brand new airplane) i have no idea why Ryanair would reduce services during peak travel dates from July onwards. If they were really not going to increase capacity from BOH for 09 then they would be sorting out april to June first which is more critical and probably attracting more bookings (so less schedule change issues/disruption notifications to pax later). It sounds to me like Ryanair are adding a second aircraft but pushing it from March to July start. It could then account for re-instating frequency levels on certain routes. Why on earth bleed money on Nantes in april to june only to kill it off when it clearly makes some money in July and August. My bets are on 2nd aircraft from July 09...

Airport expansion is on course despite credit crunch.
From the Bournemouth Echo. They expect passenger numbers to 'soar' in 2009. So this would back up the rumours of 3 based FR 737's.

if it's so successful (JFK) why arn't more flights put on (instead of larger aircraft)?

it always astounded me how many people from BOH's catchment travel to JFK (and other New York airports) each year. JPMorgan accounted for a considerable number of potential passengers each week traveling from their Bournemouth European head-quarters to New York.

It could certainly support a more regular service.

But now is no time to start a transatlantic airline/new service!
