Airport profits taking off again
Taken from BBC NEWS | England | Manchester | Airport profits taking off again
Profits are up for Manchester Airports Group - owners of Manchester, East Midlands, Bournemouth and Humberside airports - after two bad years.
The group - the country's second largest airport owner - reports a 16.4% rise in profits from £82.9m to £96.5m. In 2006 and 2007, earnings were hit by a combination of travellers switching to trains, soaring security bills and low-cost flights using other airports.
It follows a costs squeeze and better returns from its shops and car parks.
Chief executive Geoff Muirhead hailed an "excellent year" and said the group was in good shape to withstand turbulent times ahead.
But he said the consumer-spending-slowdown and credit squeeze were expected to leave passenger numbers and group profits flat this year.
Group revenues during the year to 31 March rose from £385.5m to £395.7m as the strong retail and car parks performance offset lower income from airlines. Income at Manchester rose 3.2% to £286.5m.
The group is paying a dividend of £26m to its shareholders, the 10 local authorities of Greater Manchester. It represents a rise of £1m and is the first increase since 2005.
Passenger numbers across the group saw a 2% rise from 28.6 million to 29.2 million, fuelled by strong performances at East Midlands and Bournemouth.
They fell by 200,000 at Manchester to 22 million.

Emergency 30/7
Airport fire service lined up along the runway and local fire, police and ambulance rushing in with blues and two's this afternoon at about 5pm. Police even closed the perimeter road for a while. Anyone know what was up?

Congrats on New MD
Rob is a great choice for MAG and BOH.
I rate him very highly. He is still one of the very down to earth Gaffers we all wish we had leading us in business.
Good for you all at BOH.
I am sure you will do well with Rob in charge.

Thomsonfly have cut quite a few services for winter 2008/9 although there aircraft is still being based at the airport at the moment
Las Palmas on a Saturday has been axed but the Wednesday flight still remains , it could also be to do with the fact the aircraft will not arrive back into Bournemouth until 0230 when the runway is being re surfaced and cat 3 ILS is being installed
Funchal no flights in January and February
Tenerife no flights on a Sunday in January and some of February
Faro no flights between December and February
The remainder of services continue to operate which is good news though

Wizzair?
Looking at the booking system it appears to be impossible to book a flight to Katowice after saturday 13th September 08. Does anyone know if this route is cancelled or if its just a booking engine fault. Thanks

The timetable is still showing three flights/week till end of Oct BOH - KTW, then back to two a week for the winter (Mon & Fri). We'll see what evolves...
...sounds like Gdansk, maybe a mixture of Ryr snapping at their heels, more Polish nationals choosing to work in the Eurozone rather than UK.. and the inevitable fuel cost pressure.. If it does go, Ryr will be smiling, Wroclaw is not that far from Krakow/Katowicz
One thing for sure -- It won't be to release aircraft for a new Kiev - Tblisi service!

Dublin 77 %

it's a misunderstood quote. It is in reference to Michael O'eary's proposed purchase (and therefore operational running) of London Stansted airport... if it is up for sale.

Thomsonfly axe BOH-LPA completly
I knew the Saturday flight from BOH-LPA had been axed but now the Wednesday flights have disappeared from Thomsonfly's booking system as well. I've been offered alternative flights from LGW instead.
For a route that had a overall 99% load factor for the past two winters, I find that a very strange decision. Anyone know why? Fuel prices claim another route?
Must be too late now for anyone else to pick up this route this winter unless anyone from EZY is reading of coure and wants to fly a guarenteed full plane every sector...
