Ha! High speed turn offs and parallel taxiways. Dream on! Only recently some wise bean counters at MAG thought it would be a good idea to shut down completely taxiway A (the one that runs next to Parley Lane) and turn it either to a Car Park or a Hotel or something similar!! Imagine the huge delays that would cause with the long back track distances and the overall implications on normal flow of Air Traffic.
Ask any of these people what is the most important asset at an airport and they will tell you its the car park or the duty free shop!! not the 2271 meters of tarmac out there!!
As for the illusive New Terminal we all live in hope that one day they will realise that they need to do something NOW in order to secure the future of this great Airport!!

Car park! CAR PARK?
Given they just shut the lovely Air Museum, that my lad loved to bits, to turn that into a car park, I think its taking the rip to create yet more space for for cars.

April 08 94,000 passengers
Bournemouth handled over 10% more pax in April 08 compared to April 07.
Over 94,000 pax were handled, despite the huge drop caused by the cessation of AMS (-5/6k), PRG (-3/4k) and some others...
Massive increases seen to Malaga, Alicante, Faro, Palma and the Canaries. Even PIK did well, perhaps not so great on load factor but yield must have improved with the better timings of flights.
Seems that staying true to BOH's strengths (Spain) is paying off in this economic downturn.

Taxiway A
Anyone know why taxiway A is currently closed causing outbound traffic to have to taxi halfway up the main runway?
Airport maintenance, new fence/bund going up or something to do with the resurfacing of Parley Lane on Wednesday?
Or of course, construction of yet another carpark

RyanAir timetable changes Winter08
Changes to the FR timetable for Winter08 are starting to appear in the booking engine.
PMI is directly replaced by Milan BGY in the 10:00am slot and NTE is replaced by Paris BVA in the 15:10 slot.
Interestingly, Venice TFS is on the route map but not bookable as yet, but all current MWFS routes are available throughout the winter as is Wroclaw which remains on the TTS programme, so either TFS is about to become a base, the route is being flown on a W pattern or it's a hint of a second based plane at BOH starting on the 28th October...
Update: Looks like Venice may have been an error, all traces of it as a route to BOH have now disapeared from the booking system and the route map. Or maybe it was just entered live on the map too soon

It won't even be any use for the weekend market since Friday and Sunday flights are needed for that, or at least flights first thing on Saturday. It'd be Saturday evening before you'd get into Paris from Beauvais with those flight times. I suppose they're hoping to appeal to the Disneyland leisure market but winter isn't really the right time to start a route like that. I'm surprised Milan is back given how terrible loads were last winter.

Bournemouth Airport
Hello Everyone, This is my first posting on this Website!.....Strange rumours are starting to come out of BOH- swirling around the "Spotter" Fraternity.Firstly,All Construction work relating to the 32 Million Pounds Re- development Plan appears to have stopped and no Workers to be seen on-site.It is rumoured that the Company contracted to carry out the work has gone bust.Is this why Southern Taxiway is now closed..Rumours of holes in it are left unrepaired......Just a personal thought..I am wondering if the Airport may be FOR SALE sometime soon???????????..Best Wishes

We were told the terminal would not start till feb 2009 at the earliest, apron and runway july. This is a big pain for the royal mail as the titan can't return from ema and the jersey and guernsey flights will be delayed in the morning

Cat 111 ILS
Upgraded ILS is a very positive step, I presume that runway centreline lights and TDZ lighting will also be installed at the same time? (it's needed for low viz ops and reduced minima). 26 only I presume?
Sounds like the new ILS should be operational when the autumn mists and fog arrive.. good news! The night freight/mail flights will benefit in the long run, although I know most are not cat 3 capable.
2009 already shaping up well..

MAG selling up?
Rumours have been circulating of late about the reasons for the lack of work being done at Bournemouth. One that is 'doing the rounds' is that BOH is next for the chop after HUY, considering they are showing a distinct interest in Gatwick, should BAA bugger it all up!
Or is it just that they want rid of Rob Goldsmith?

Cat 111 ILS
Rumour has it that the Cat 111 ILS instalation at BOH was a CAA requirment not a generous gift from MAG. Their purse strings are still firmly pulled tight.
Also any truth in the rumour about BOH MD P.Duffy either on the slide or on his way out??

Cat III ILS
The requirement of an airport to provide Cat III is nothing to do with CAA. It is a business decision made by the airport operator. Whatever Category the operator decides then they need to ensure that airfield lighting, low vis safeguards etc meet CAA Licensing requirements.

Ryanair want cat 3 ils as a condition of basing further aircraft. Money diverted to installing this (which wont be up and running until the end of the year) might explain why new terminal work etc is being re-assessed.

OK Ryanair require Cat-111 ILS to secure BOH as a site to base further aircraft that's understandable, but surely they won't very be impressed if it's at the expense or serious delay of the promised new terminal and the desperately needed arrivals hall.
Also other airlines looking at BOH must be sitting in the wings wondering just what the blazes MAG/BOH hierarchy are doing?
Are they serious when they say they want to play with the big boys or are they just playing at airports??
Is it time somebody moved over and allowed someone with the right credentials to move in and get things going!! Or if it's the guy's up north controlling the purse strings then maybe they ought to think about the bad publicity BOH attracts from disgruntled pax and not just about the money.
The clocks ticking and BOH will eventually look like a standing joke!!
