All change

OK then Fraggle Boys, with 6 months to go now till the summer timetable starts- what changes will we see on Fraggle routes & operators for the start of the next timetable? Will FlyBe be double daily to LTN, SOU or BHX? Will they be on LPL? Will NCL survive the winter?

Latest I have heard is LTN BHX and SOU all double daily for summer 08!! Doubt LPL will emerge BE not to keen on the airport!! Also the third Q400 seems unlikely however a E195 seems a very real possibility. Also massive growth for Flight Support on the way not so much in IOM but new places.... watch this space

Noticed you added NM to PIK - very possible!

Any idea of what NM will be looking at now?

LOL, thought he was referring to an airline, which confused me !

IOM-PIK could be a good choice, train station on site and normally free travel on trains for 6 months after a route launch

What about Carlisle for NM?, if it can still take scheduled service that is. After all who would of thought Gloucester would work.

Personally, I hope that Loganair keep the Gla and Edi traffic as they are a handy and fairly cheap connection to LHR

Carlisle is having some development work done. Scheduled services are wanted by the owner after the work is finished

Carlisle

I vaguely recollect talk of a summer Saturday service in the 70s to Carlisle. Must have been Manx Airlines?

IIRC Air Furness operated to Carlisle last from the IOM but it was a long time ago

I see that the September ferry pax numbers to/from LPL just released are up 8,000. In the same month MAN/LPL pax by air declined 3,000. So more in total travelling on/off the Island, but choosing to avoid flying. Not the LTN effect, then?

That's not the Luton effect, but the price effect !

Travellers to the North West (in particular) will compare the cost of ferry with the cost of flight. Price usually overrides time for leisure travellers and the airport / operators need to understand this.......

NW

Ifc is right about the price effect. LPL and BLK must be down again for October. Anyone know whats happened to MAN? With the price war pax numbers should have gone up. FlyBe s timekeeping has improved miles, who's winning the battle though, 3W or BE

mirdif: You assume that price stimulates traffic on the iom.
unlikely to ever find out

Seriously though, price does determine how people travel to the north west of england (choice of airline or whether they use the boat)

Steam Packet drops daily LPL service from Nov9 til next March, and weekend sailing times on the slower ship (as opposed to fast craft) preclude day trips. North West bound travellers have fewer options so air pax numbers should rise.

If IoM Airport serious about increasing North West bound loads they should be seeking to get Treasury to pass on IoM APD to them to reduce/remove pax handling charges etc. Fat chance though. And anyway that would really get the greens twitching!

Or maybe level the playing field by imposing an APD equivalent on ferry pax? That would add a good few pennies to the Treasury coffers...

Since when was BLK down? The route has been growing ever since it M2 launched their service. The route will keep growing for some time.

Blk Iom

BLK IOM always was a good route. Surprised BNWA never got their J31 off the ground - faster than the L410. Will Manx2 be bringing J Express's J31 back to do the new BHD rotations. There was a lot of talk among the JE crews that they'sd be back in IOM come November.

handling

I saw on another thred the theory that Loganair would soon be handled by Flight support . Is this just based onthe old FlyBe/Loganair franchise rumor again. Can't see it otherwise. Cant see Loganair franchising with FlyBe either. Surely they ll just stay independant if they move off BA
