Birmingham Evening Post

Is this a new shareholder or just loan capital?

Regional airline gets Birmingham investment Dec 18 2007

A multi-million pound investment backed by the Birmingham office of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander has given a major boost to regional airline Eastern Airways.
Humberside-based Eastern operates scheduled services on 22 routes in the UK and four into Europe, including routes from Birmingham to Inverness, the Isle of Man and Newcastle and from East Midlands Airport to Aberdeen, Stavanger and Wick.
Steve Lewis, Kaupthing director of corporate and structured finance in Birmingham, said: "Eastern Airways focuses on the business traveller with a market leading record for frequency, punctuality, reliability and quality of service.
"The development capital funding is designed to enable the entrepreneurial management team, led by chief executive officer Richard Lake, to expand further the business in the short haul regional air travel market."
Established in 1997, Eastern Airways has grown rapidly and now boasts a turnover of around £70 million.

Flybe's SOU operation moves to a Mon/Weds/Fri and Sat/Sun operation for the summer. This is a bold move by Eastern but, dare I say, not a terribly smart one.

Goodbye BRS
Does this mean that the daily Eastern BRS rotation is reduced to alternate days - or off the schedule altogether?? Both my mother and brother use that route.

looking on flybe s website they are pulling off SOU completely for 2 months and then only going back alternate days from mid March. This wouldgive T3 a window. Good to see the route being continued through the winter

Does this mean M2 and GLO have pulled it off?!

All those doubters - looks like M2 do have some weight to through around with the smaller UK carriers! With their new HQ and service station on the island, the airline looks like it is to grow!

Where to next is the question...I would doubt there will be no new route before the start of the summer season.

Be Sou

Just a quickie in relation to the Flybe SOU which stops operating for a month or two. Tis mainly due to commercial reasons. There are many routes on the flybe network receiving the same treatment, with everything gettin back to normal around mid-march i think. Pax figures on the IOM routes are looking very good indeed. Gd job all involved

What a comment ' skiddy IOM'.

If the Manx Gov knew what they were doing then we would all be magicians. It reminds me of that half witt Bush, maybe a fool like him could decide on big things like our lot? What an embarrassment they are!

EMB 195 on LGW-IOM

I noticed, by chance, that on the FlyBe booking engine, the first LGW-IOM and the second IOM-LGW will be operated by a Embraer 195, on Saturdays during Q1 2008. First scheduled use of the type on the route.
Flew on this sector today and a Q400 turned up although the on-line booking had me at row 30. We all just sweequed in, crew said aircraft had gone tech.

FlyBe IOM-MAN

I notice the first (07.05) FlyBe IOM-MAN-IOM rotation has been cancelled twice in the last three days.

Anyone know why ? Just curious to know, as a user of the route, if they are consolidating PAX onto later flights at what is a quiet time of year, or if there are unavoidable tech/operational reasons?

They did offer to put passengers on later flights and I can assure you 100% that the cancellations were not intentional, but due to a last minute crew sickness reason. the time to get the standby in would have delayed the rest of the day's flying too much, but the core reason for it is in the process of being sorted out.

The company appears to be pruning quiet flights in this quarter, but with plenty of advance notice for the very few passengers it would affect.

On this occasion, this most certainly was not the case. Sorry.

FlyBe buys BACon, Air France buys VLM, FlyBe franchises Loganair, Eastern drops BRS. Euromanx drops BHD and sell its planes, gives Arran back its ATR and leases the 3 J41s, BE starts LTN. Certainly not a dull year on Ronaldsway then?

Where has this been reported? All I am aware of is the fact that the Dashs have been put up for sale and a-yet-to-confirmed rumour that BHD will go.

As for LCY and the J41, didn't Eastern use the Jetstream 41 for their LCYNCL route to replace a leased Dornier 328? Before, BACX indeed used a Jetstream on the short-lived Sheffield route.

Unless something changed towards end of last year, J41s are approved into LCY.

Eastern used them on NCL route until it was dropped

BHD is still available for booking, very good fares as well!

The J41 is approved for LCY as long as it has had the appropriate steep approach mod embodied. When I worked for BRAL not all aircraft had this.
From what I remember the 1650shp rated aircraft would have been the candidates.
