I may be wrong, but I would take a punt that the route they they are hinting at (note that NQY-REU is also noted as a "charter") is actually a Day 6 IOM-NQY-REU operating on behalf of IOM Direct Holidays (the guys who are also basically underpinning their IOM-GVA ski flights)..

That was my initial thought as well. As it must be on a E195, they probably will not be able to fill it at IOM or NQY, so splitting the capacity between the two smalish markets and offering the spare capacity on IOM-NQY for local travel makes some sense. Not sure, though, who might be interested in a weekly service between NQY and IOM. I don't think too many people from Cornwall are holidaying on the rock and Fragglerockfolk are not to keen to spend their holidays in Cornwall either. For business travellers the service is, of course, quite useless.

Scrap ahead

Looks like Flybe taking on allcomers

3x daily LPL to kill Euros
2x daily BHX to kill Eastern
2x daily BHX also give Manx2 a bit of a kicking on GLO.

Therell be some cheap fares off the rock for 6 months

Plus LTN going double daily to dump capacity on the LON market which will hurt Euromanx more than VLM or tFlybe's own LGW service....

The natives are not exactly exultant at the prospect and flybe will still have their work cut out, it seems.

natives

I reckon the natives will say they want Euromanx to keep going .............and then buy the cheapest ticket off the rock just as they've always done. Only exception will be inbound business passengers who will go with the most reliable/punctual operator By March that could even be FlyBe

NQY and IOM will be both charter and schedule - the aircraft will be split so charter passengers can travel but also passengers can book directly through Flybe.

Correct.

Times of new flights are available on FlyBE's website under online timetable. NQY times not there yet, but it will be the IOM crew and aircraft that goes through, not a 195. Keeps us busy on a Saturday Afternoon, I suppose.

The reliability of flybe has been steadily improving over the last few months, but nobody is on harping on about all the ontime arrivals and early arrivals. The local crews are still out and about training and once complete, it will be and remain far better still. an additional aircraft will mean more flexibility, more spares in position to help quick fixes of snags and even better reliability for the Island. All good....

The changes in UK tax rules look to be directed at the Expats, mind. Whether Brown (sorry, puppet Darling) had Manx resident businessmen and long haul pilots in mind when he did this I don't know. More pins for his Voodoo doll I reckon.

New Flybe IOM Routes

Its sad to see that Flybe are intent of destroying all other airlines who are in IOM market, IOM will be simply a flybe airport in no time at all. How boring I think that will be. A bit like SOU or EXT.

So it will be NQY-REU in a Q400? That will be 544nm or 1007km. Must be one of the longest Q400 routes in the Flybe network.

FlyBe IOM Summer 2008

This is just what IOM needs. Hopefully pax figures will be on the up. To be totally jonest it doesn't really matter which airline, so long as a quality service is provided. The future of Eastern.....

We do need some proper competition in the IOM though. All Flybe would be as bad as all EMX etc.

I am sure the Newquay - Reus will be on a E195 as with the other Spanish destinations. I do not see that a route like that where Flybe are offering a proportion of seats for the charter market will be on any equipment with less than 100 seats or so.

Q400 Allocations IOM

From the start of summer 08 looks like the first Q400 will operate morning LGW and Afternoon MAN with the second doing morning MAN and afternoon LGW. The third will do a IOM/LPL/IOM/LTN/IOM/LPL/IOM/LPL/IOM/LTN/IOM.
Could get intresting. And as when I predicted NQY, that was a good source, NCL is on the way sometime in next 18 months along with GLA.

NCL?

I can believe GLA but NCL? NCL is only 6000 pax a year and a Q 400 daily is 56,000 seats in a year. I know BE are having a go at Eastern but that would be madness

IOM in 2008

One thing is for certain, 2008 will be a very intresting year for IOM. Apart from that little else is certain. I can see several developments happening.
  • EuroManx to continue with their existing LPL schedule as it is, with little change in price. At least until the end of summer 08
  • FlyBe to do all they can to get rid of EuroManx with low fares to LPL MAN and LTN.
  • Eastern to suffer from the x2 daily BHX from FlyBe.
  • VLM and FlyBe to both anounce additional services from IOM.
  • Manx2 to go self handling in IOM
  • An increase in pax figures due to BE low fares
While it will be intresting to see which airlines come out on top, there will also be further developments with IOM handling agents. With added BE expansion will Flight Support also expand its IOM base??

It would be intresting to see everyones predictions for 08 in IOM...
