Thumbs up Handling Agent

They won the Flyglobespan contract at Glasgow in June and are starting up in Edinburgh in Janaury 2008, they plan to handle Flyglobespan around the world! After Aberdeen, next stop in Toronto! They seem to have done well for a new company. I think Flyglobespan are more interested in the quality of service they provide, rather that the cost!!!! http://www.albagroundhandling.co.uk

bmi drop Kristiansand for winter

To return in the summer 2008 schedules.

But this is supposed to be a route serving the oil & gas industry, not a leisure route. The oil industry is a 24/7 operation, I could understand it if it was a leisure route, as they come & go depending on the season.

The likes of SVG, BGO, OSL aren't being totally axed "for the winter".

So 3 of the 4 recently introduced bmi Reg routes out of ABZ have now been axed - AMS, BRU & now KRS. Only GRQ remains of those introduced, but you wonder for how much longer.

I for one doubt KRS will be back, at least not with bmi. Will be happy to be proved wrong, if someone in bmi Reg is prepared to confirm.

Again, I wonder whether the E135/145 fleet is the right one for bmi at ABZ. Save MAN & the odd LHR, I think it is too big for many of the ABZ routes, which just don't have the sufficient numbers to justify it. And even LHR isn't always full on an Embraer! Seems no matter how bad BA get (& they do), people aren't prepared to sacrifice their perks!!

Perhaps move the Embraers elsewhere & use something else for ABZ - but would bmi Reg be prepared to add another type to the fleet? Something smaller/more fuel efficient? I doubt it.

The catchment area & lack of inbound tourists may always plague this area.

bmi regional dropped some of the routes from ABZ due to the lack of A/C. They got the routes and crew for 4 more 145s that they were suppose to buy off Flybe, but Flybe pulled the plug. Hence why they were leasing a Saab 2000 from eastern. They pulled the 3rd A/C from ABZ to cover LBA.

Rumour has it Shell have approached regional to tender for the Scatsa run using 3 Q400s. Apparently there was a Q400 demostrator at EMA not long ago for regional to look at. So 2 +2 = Q400s for regional since they cant get anymore 145s.

Hear hear re the Dash 7. First time I saw one (1981-ish) used to think it was a huge plane on account of its large tail! Do Bombardier still make them or is it all 300s/Q400s now?

Remember Brymon Dash 7s & Inter City Viscounts (then BAF ones) with fondness! IIRC the Inter City ones were -700s, & BAF -800s. Operators I still miss today.

Will our MD's initiative in holding monthly seminars with the "great unwashed" come to anything I wonder? Customers with gripes & complaints about the facilities at ABZ are to meet PERSONALLY with the MD to have their complaints...umm...addressed.

Surely they'll tell him NOTHING that he doesn't know fine well already? That the place IS TOO SMALL...

...form an orderly queue...

"I have a little list"

MD Kevin Broon's scheduled service wishlist:

Stansted
Cardiff
Lanzarote
Frankfurt (or Munich)
Geneva
Grenoble
Milan
Warsaw
Corfu
Athens (or Crete)

Doesn't expect to get "all" the destinations - too right he won't!!

I'd be amazed if he got no more than a couple!!

If the public don't use the services that have been made available, what chance more??!!

If airlines pull out of ABZ on the basis it's too expensive or far away to serve, what chance more??!!

I suppose we can't fault MD - KB for his enthusiasm, unless his bonus is calculated for column inches in the P & J !!!

Surely he has to get the infrastructure sorted first - baggage reclaim, baggage hall and check-in can't cope with existing traffic, let alone all the NEW flights from fantasyland.

Anyone heard who is taking over from Servisair?

No news on who is taking over Servisair's contracts at the moment other than Aviance handling Monarch for the flights over Christmas and New Year period.

Q400

Bombardier have annouced that a European Airline that doesn't currently operate the Q400 has placed orders for 10 with a further 10 options. Now I wonder who that might be.....................................

Q400

Somebody seems to think it's Air Berlin (to replace F100s).

I saw a 'Puffin Express' - Brymon Dash7 depart from RWAY 26 (Short flying club runway back in the day) at EDI in the mid 90s It was quite an incredible site - to see it leap into the air and 'balloon' as it roared past! Certainly beat the usual C150s and PA28s!

Dash 7

We still see Dash 7's fairly often at North Bay - Voyageur Airways does their maintenance here. We also have an ex-Brymon/BA Dash 7 in storage, if you're interested
