Neither would I, although i see u have left out BFS there, if they were to do BFS-SNN-JFK like the old days then that would be brill for me but i doubt it. I remember there was a rumour of LGW-BFS-JFK when DM was CEO but that idea soon went out the window.

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus seem to have axed the Gatwick, Paris CDG and Glasgow routes from Shannon. Gatwick finishes on the 11th of September, while Paris and Glasgow cease on the 29th of October.

They are operating more routes ex SNN than at any time in the recent past with LHR, LGW, BHX, BRS, GLA, MAN, CDG, JFK and BOS.
Aren't these flights operated by Aer Arann as a franchise? It's a fair point that they are not operated by Aer Lingus, merely in their colours much like GB Airways used to do with BA. Looking at the prices on the routes that RE / EI need to charge to make money on the ATR72, they're not the figures UK-Ireland passengers recognise as being competitive.

They are sold and marketed as Aer Lingus flights, and there is no way to purchase them as RE flights, so I consider them EI, as such. My experience is that RE operated EI flights do tend to be more expensive than EI operated services. That said, none of the routes I fly on (ex ORK) have any direct competition these days, same is true ex SNN and most DUB routes.

IIRC GLA is operated by an ORK based AT7? Wonder what they will use that for.

Withdrawal of SNN/LGW?

9 May 2011
Flights now operate in the evening in the upcoming winter timetable, dept ex LGW 17:50, dept ex SNN 19:55. A much more suitable schedule for the Shannon market.

While the timetable is not final just yet, it does seem that the previous LGW-SNN timings and SNN-CDG timings are being used out of Cork for the winter. Shame to see these flights did not work out as they were good additions to the SNN route map.

It's not bookable though. It was previously bookable with that timetable but now it's no longer bookable.

The aircraft, operated by Aer Arann, was travelling from Manchester with 21 passsengers and four crew when the accident happened just after 1030 BST.
Just 21 passengers for what is peak season

First Pictures of Shannon Incident

Just 21 passengers for what is peak season
Since there's a twice daily flight on the SNN-MAN-SNN route, and today is a Sunday with practically no Business Pax, i would think many would go for the evening flight option rather then bothering to get up for the morning flight back to SNN from MAN, well i would think many of the Weekend travellers would think that way.

FIRST PICTURES:

Look like it had just turned on to Alpha after Landing on RWY24, and ended up in the Grass near the TWR, i would expect SLM to be back in service in a month or so, looks like its just scraping and obiously the nose gear needs replacing. Good to know no one was hurt.
