Re KLM Amsterdam talks

Yeah this was mentioned in the link posted by EI-EIDW on Tuesday...

KLM have just announced that it is axing its Liverpool/Amsterdam link. Given this as an example I can't see KLM touching Shannon or Ireland for that matter. Also given the AirFrance experience on Shannon/Paris KLM will have some access to stats re: connecting passengers etc.

The only route to Ireland that could work for KLM would be Dublin/Amsterdam and that's most unlikely to happen given the interlining arrangements that exist on Cork and Dublin via Amsterdam. I would also suggest that Dublin/Amsterdam must be one of Aer Lingus' most profitable routes given the lack of direct competition from other carriers and the good interlining traffic from the route.

I remember reading in the 80s that AerLingus used to pay KLM to stay off the Dublin route, not sure about that for sure but I read it in national papers at that time! Obviously that wouldnt be allowed in these deregulated days!

I don't see it mentioned in that link, unless there's another link somewhere.

I've heard the same rumour for another source. I have reasonable doubt though.

On the point of Paris nobody seems to be able to make that one work long term. I wonder are the aircraft too big for such routes?
From this side of the Celtic Sea, the problem is Paris - no-one beyond Paris wants to go there, to the point that SNCF have this week cut Paris-Province services by around 25%. Neither does the local "central France" population particularly want to go to Dublin. Bord Fáilte has done a great job - in the minds of the non-Parisian French, the only part of Ireland really worth visiting is the West - but it's marginally quicker and significantly cheaper to get there by road and sea than by any of the currently available air routes. Paris is a novelty, and novelties wear off.

Hoilday operator Wings Abroad will start flights to Bodrum on Mondays from 18 June - 27 August. Airline TBA shortly.

morning departures at 07.00 (MAN) and 07.15 (BHX does not return until 14.50) so could a second ATR be based. Looks like it will operate a W from BHX most lightly to BFS and SNN airport site says BHX will be 2 daily next summer..

Depending on the outcome of possible sale of bmibaby, I believe Aer Lingus Regional are lining themselves up to take over BHX-NOC, hence the reason the aircraft has been scheduled out of/returning to SNN with an apparent long turnaround in BHX to allow this to be scheduled in later.

It is due to be NOC but FR and BE would also be looking at it as FR are trying hard to get bmibaby off the route by increasing EMA

Wink

Has that been confirmed anywhere yet? I did wonder if they may do GLY for summer or maybe KIR? WAT out the door now with BE there. NOC would make sense and there is every chance they could push WW off the route by doing it daily with every chance of filling a much smaller aircraft, EI already well known at NOC. If it is NOC it would be interesting to see if they would attempt any other routes or even a base there in the future???

Don't forget BE is already well established at NOC now and could
replace baby service possibly with a jet service from Birmingham rather
than a turboprop any this is not the NOC thread

Interesting (and thanks for posting these!).

BHX-SNN and BHX-NOC are within a few nm of each other in terms of great circle distance, so block time should be about the same (NOC is fractionally further on the great circle - perhaps someone more knowledgeable can advise whether airways routings change this.) Let's therefore assume similar block times for SNN and NOC:

Arrive BHX 0850
Assume depart BHX 0915 - arrive NOC 10.55
Depart NOC 11.20 - arrive BHX 12.55...
Can't turn around for 1310, so they would have to push the departure back to SNN to 1320 (and lose more of the subsequent punctuality buffer in SNN) - and that's with 25 minute turns at BHX and NOC. It'll be a busy aircraft!

Timewise, it would have been perfect for WAT, but with Flybe on the route now, I assume that won't happen, especially with ORK-BHX frequencies increased.

CYRANO
I would say those timings for NOC look about right but sure I can remember Loganair having it down to 1hr35min many yrs ago. Shaving 5mins off the flight time each way would give it 25mins turnaround in BHX. The other option could be GLY and I had thought WAT too! Also on the point of it being a busy a/c its not unusual for RE to do 4 sectors in a day, on some days one a/c does WAT-SEN x2 and MAN , and LTN.

Banks now raiding airports

FURTHER DOUBT CAST OVER GALWAY AIRPORT

February 1, 2012 - 6:15pm
Further doubt has been cast over the future of Galway Airport.

It's emerged this evening that Bank of Ireland has reportedly seized funds from the Airport's deposit account, jeapardising the company's ability to continue as a going concern.

President of Galway Chamber Declan Dooley, of which Galway Airport is a subsidiary company, says he's outraged by the Bank's actions.

According to him, last Friday, without any notice to Galway Airport, Bank of Ireland seized €1.1 million from the company's account and set it off against the company loans which were up to date, fully compliant and not in default in any way.

The Airport had €1.6 million in its bank account before the funds were seized.

Declan Dooley said this could have a detrimental effect on Galway Airport.

THe operator of the charter flights across France from SNN will be adding extra flights during peak summer season by adding 3 new airprots and passengers will increase by 40% on French routes.
