s13

Great to see some positive news for SNN

On another note for S13 any chance that EIR will resume Rennes and Bristol ?

Will Ryanair resume Liverpool for the summer season ?

And is Delta returning next summer ?

I guess we will have to wait and see. I would imagine that Liverpool would return and East Midlands would also probably be amongst the most likely UK routes if Ryanair were to expand further, although personally I'd prefer Cork from East Midlands rather than Shannon. But yes, would not be surprised to see 2 or 3 aircraft in Shannon after the sale.

Just wondering if Shannon will be expected to pay its way after it splits from the DAA. On whose terms will Ryanair return? The last deal saw Ryanair lose money and Shannon lose money so everybody loses when airports sign deals that have more to do with massaging passenger figures than commercial reality.

Word I've heard is a Ryanair deal is a bit off yet, won't happen until there is some movement on separation from DAA.

Also heard some more route developments in the next couple of weeks but no solid word on who or where to.

If Ryanair do move back into Shannon then the Shannon workforce will have to accept the reality of working for a volume low cost carrier, lower costs, flexible work practices, etc it will be interesting to watch development on this front...best of luck to Shannon with it all

It looks like snn is all set up for The Gathering next summer. Hats off, snn knows how the game is played all right. Cork can take a leaf out of that song book.

Transaero may fly Moscow-Miami flights via Shannon, Ireland | exMiami

Would be great for SNN if they get promission to do it. Ireland-Russia currently discussing a bilateral agreement.

Might be an opportunity to bag a few cheap flights to Miami & Moscow for The Gatherers! Low risk for both snn & Transaero yet gets all the kudos for opening two new routes.

You got to hand it to the snn crowd.

Meanwhile back at the ranch in Cork....!

Word locally seems to be that once Shannon is no longer under the DAA control, there will be plenty of airlines around.

Will be interesting to see what transpires.

Don't think much will change, remember SNN will have to balance its books itself so a lot of changes will need to be made to stop the current losses. I don't see any new airlines operating from Europe. You may get a hub connection but unlikely as it won't be sustained long term. It will be Ryanair or nothing. If Ryanair were to operate whatever new carriers announces from NOC and ORK it would push carriers out. People seem to think this will be wonderful news for SNN and it will to a small extent but nothing like its being hipped up to be.

What carriers do they expect:
AF/KLM tried and failed.
LH possible but only a regional jet in summer for Germans possibly Germanwings.
SAS, IB, AB all undergoing restructering and contracting.
BA, Virgin never.

Thats the bulk of European carriers already.

Well... maybe we could see some EI expansion ?

Maybe relaunch Paris, Glasgow, Gatwick and start Amsterdam or Frankfurt ? Maybe evens couple of bucket and spade routes ?

If FR expand hopefully they'll relaunch Liverpool, East Midlands and a couple of European city routes.

Not going to happen there is currently enough sun routes and EI adding from SNN would affect there ops at ORK. For most airports in Ireland sun and UK routes are only viable and that will always be the case particular if its not a loco.

Other than Dublin the majority of passengers through Irish airports are leasure apart from ones that have good business flights to UK. It was like this for many years even when times were good and it won't change, major improvments in transport to Dublin now and that will only contuine.

Maybe we'll see a 2013 version of AB Shannon, Skynet or even Eirjet! Never understimate Shannon's willingness to throw money at an airline.Having said that they must be congratulated on getting United and US Air to return, some achievement that.

Aer Lingus, Delta, United, US Air, BA and now possibly Transero to the United States is really a fantastic achievement to the management at Shannon Airport

Sorry to be Captain Buzzkill here but while its great to see United and US Airways expanding in Shannon, it should also be pointed out that last month passenger numbers continued to plummet by 12.9% when compared to the same month in 2011, while traffic in both Dublin and Cork grew (in Dublin's case by 10.5%).

So I think people saying how much of a great job SNN management are doing should take a reality check. Unless Shannon makes a dramatic turnaround soon, the airport is in danger of having to make serious operational cutbacks.

I dont think there is any delusion as to the situation in Shannon, but there are some positive noises from some reliable sources and that is to be welcomed.. As i say, it will be interesting to see how this all pans out...
