In a way does it matter if BACF are making profits or not? Question is could BA make more money on their investment by concentrating on their core activities, mainly flying big jets long distances out of Heathrow? I don't claim to know.

BACF's existence allows BA to operate more big jets out of LHR.... BACF is inheriting BA and BMI airbus routes, so that a jumbo or a 777 can replace those heathrow slots. Therefore in a way it is somewhat irrelevant if BACF makes profit or not as out of its existence the BA group will make more money! At the moment LCY is the answer to the third runway....

Given BA mainline are focused on the long haul side of things and replacing the bmi short haul slots at lhr with long haul aircraft...i agree it would allow BACF to target the buissness pax side of things..people heading to london for day buisness etc and adhoc charters - therefore looking at BA as a whole it can only be a good thing

Not strictly true. You can acquire the BACF accounts up to the end of 2010 on the Companies House website for the princely sum of £1.00. Of course one can debate the ins and outs of transfer pricing between BA entities and its effect on profitability, but the BACF accounts are available (with a bit of a delay).

I alway thought that the point of BACON was to move some short haul to City in order to free up slots for long haul at Hounslow International.
Surely, now they have gotten ahold of all those juicy BMI slots, they no longer need BACON at City to free up slots at Hounslow.........
squeak, squeak

BACF to IOM
BACF will launch a new service from IOM to LCY from 28MAY12 initially the service will operate on a Embraer E170. Frequency will increase to up to 3 daily from 25JUN12 and operational aircraft will be provided by a 50 seater Eastern Airways’ Saab 2000 aircraft.
Before entering service on the route the S2000 will be painted into BA colours. The aircraft will be flown by T3 flight crew. With the onboard cabin service being provided by BACF crew.
Sounds like BACF are leasing the aircraft for a while especially since they are training there crew on it.

Where is this info from? Surprised BA would train crew on another airlines aircraft.
I was quite suprised that they are training crew on the S2000.

I understand short-haul yields at LCY are good and arguably it's a rare success story where BA has grown steadily and managed to outgrow the competition outside of the LHR hub.

This is interesting, Copenhagen swapped for Ronaldsway and Aberdeen to come. It's all going a bit UK Regional again, not something I would have thought given the history. I must say a Saab 2000 will be nice in BA Colours and if the fares are decent (I mean cheaper then Eastern, I have no wish to sell a kidney!), I might try out the product next time.

The slot depletion argument at LCY is heavily over exaggerated. I can see that theres slot availability to the top end of the 8AM during S12 every day of the week. For the rest of the day, there are plenty of slots floating around, slot depletion isn't an issue for LCY or BACF for the near future. Hence they are able to pop up routes quite easiy at the moment.

This is quite an interesting move - I wonder what made them select T3 because they do not have any other relationship with them do they? I know Eastern provide aircraft and crew but what would the additional cost be - will the route pay for itself
Its like one big circle though, T3 ended up with ex-BA jetstreams, and now BA are having an S2000 back in their own colours. The S2000 looks pretty identical to the ATP which use to appear in BA's old livery.

Goes around - Comes around is not unknown elsewhere at LCY - look how Cityjet squeezed out their subcontracted Scot Airways operations, now they seem to be significantly back.
