I think you are answering your own question here; the bulk of Eastern's Jetstream 41 fleet came from BA about 8 years ago when BA pulled out of regional ops, in a very sweetheart deal; they might actually still be legally owned by BA but leased to Eastern.
Goes around - Comes around is not unknown elsewhere at LCY - look how Cityjet squeezed out their subcontracted Scot Airways operations, now they seem to be significantly back.
