Interesting aircraft - what have you seen on your computer today?
Lots of serious (ie not Hawk size) Military noise over Frome again today-noticed by lots of people and went on a lot longer than recent days which have been one or two USAFF15s as per FR24 . Todays had nothing shown on FR24 at the time while the 'culprit did large number of loops and figure 8s overhead Frome and extending out to Salisbury Plain and Yeovil . F 15s again or RAF typhoons/F35s.
I assume this area gets used as there is effectively no civil traffic about a few thousand feet and twenty odd thousand or more from airway overflights . Any ideas on what and why?

What time was this?
I live between Frome and Yeovil. On the "right" days I can hear artillery on Salisbury Plain. I've seen Russian built helicopters over the Plain which I've assumed came from Boscombe Down. Yeovilton gets regular visits of all sorts, not just the helicopter units based there. I've had low flying transports go past my house and looking like they're lower than me (I'm on a hillside). There are ETPS aircraft (jet and turboprop) out of Boscombe who have great fun doing aerobatics round here (there's at least one hawk which is something aeromedical which seems to take pleasure in high G work). I get light aircraft apparently using railway lines for navigation. It's nothing like as busy as when I lived near Heathrow but much more interesting!

Boeing E-8C just passed westbound over London leaving a nice clear trail - JT-8Ds too apparently! I see it is a former American Airlines airframe.

See two B-52s out of Fairford sailed south from Marham to Seaford and on into France this morning - pretty much past my front door; how about coming back the same route boys so's I can have a squizz! They're heading north again now...
Treadigraph,, I think the 'sound of freedom' over from was early afternoon , went on for much longer than on previous days this week. Nothing so far today
Hartington, like you I moved here from the LHR area and there are a lot of interesting movements down here, as far as ican make out anyhting heading South or Sw from Brize of fairford comes this way.. In fact today while walking the Dog a C130 which had obviously been scooting down the low lying and flat corridor of Land NW of Frome , where the railway runs up towards Trowbridge and onwards , 'popped up' to avoid the higher ground surrounding the west of frome. becuase were were on a rdge it looked like it was about 50 feet above the ground , an optical illusion of course but it certainly looks impressive . I usually see them in the evening doing the same thing in reverse

Had a quick look on Plane Finder but couldn't see anything other than an ETPS BAe 146 which was doing lots of orbits at about 10000' plus slightly to the south of Frome.
I was just hoping to get in before Treaders as its just overflown us - sounded more Hercules like, certainly not like those awfully noisy Atlas on their way out east from Brize. Should have remembered Goldox is west of us. Treaders must be in the noisy pub!

I was asleep! Just had two Chinooks over the top in very very loose trail - first was quite low. I hope the AW139 that passed behind the second one had it well in sight!. Weather is pretty drizz here.
Latvian Antonov 26 YL-RAC just droned overhead Central London heading SE from Birmingham, haven't noticed one for a while. Of course, after some fine days it's low cloud and raining.

Astonishingly, I didn't hear either the AN-26 or the Romanian Spartan pass by...
Oh for FlightRadar some years ago. One I recall was some huge turboprop noise, somewhat after midnight, passing over London City, It rumbled and droned on for about 10 minutes, a complex series of interlaced sounds. I have long convinced myself it was the Antonov 22, heavily loaded, possibly out of Brize Norton and headed for The Gulf. On a couple of other occasions there has been a notably low R-2800 or similar sound coming loud and low over the rooftops, in the days when there were still DC-6s, or indeed DC-3s, around. But they weren't running VFR because it was fully low cloud and raining (and me getting wet looking up into the passing noise).

I usually have ADSB on my laptop/phone and either take an occasional glance when using either or if I hear something. I was in a meeting in Farringdon a dozen plus years ago; distinctly heard the sound of radials overhead, would love to have had/known about ADSB back then. Air Atlantique were still flying their DC-6s at that point.
I understand the AN-22 was indeed destroyed... It was a very distinctive sound which I heard three times, once distantly from Frimley as the famous Farnborough visitor departed, twice overhead here. First time it was leaving a vapour trail and I was looking for something much lower, so loud was it. Bins revealed what was leaving the trail...
Heard the weirdest jet noise while walking through some woods at Selsdon yesterday - could hear a Spit getting airborne from Biggin and the strange sound seemed to be above me, quite deep with hints of blue note... Nothing on ADSB, crimminy... Looking up through the lattice of I suddenly realised I was directly under 400kv powerlines and the sound was the quite strong wind blowing through them! I knew the line passed through the area, just never noticed the cables crossed that stretch of woodland! In my defence, most of the year the trees are well canopied and I normally look down more as that section of path is well mined by badgers and there are poodle bombs to avoid as well. One of the pylons is just the other side of the woods it seems, also screened by the trees.
