I live between Frome and Yeovil. On the "right" days I can hear artillery on Salisbury Plain. I've seen Russian built helicopters over the Plain which I've assumed came from Boscombe Down. Yeovilton gets regular visits of all sorts, not just the helicopter units based there. I've had low flying transports go past my house and looking like they're lower than me (I'm on a hillside). There are ETPS aircraft (jet and turboprop) out of Boscombe who have great fun doing aerobatics round here (there's at least one hawk which is something aeromedical which seems to take pleasure in high G work). I get light aircraft apparently using railway lines for navigation. It's nothing like as busy as when I lived near Heathrow but much more interesting!
