hey delta 6

I see that you're from "down under", how's the aviation scene there? are you an airline pilot? how did you start there? just curious, im still trying to pursue a flying career here in Canada, there could be lots of similarities as to both countries were part of Her Majesty's Crown, and also we're both pinoys. cheers

Hi M1911

GA here is dying a slow death, if not already dead in the major cities like Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide. Although, training is still going on. Not a lot of locals though.

There are a lot of work for GA in the outback on a seasonal basis, 6 months of the year, enough to fill your log book, although CAO states that the max hours you can fly in a year is 900 hours, you can basically expect 60 hours a month on singles and twins (approx. 360hrs for 6 months ), then instructing for the rest of the year on crappy salary, even with multi-engine instructing.

Airlines still have the upper hand in selecting "suitable" candidates as it is still their market. Hopefully the tide is turning as the requirements for Captains now have been reduced to 3,000 hours only and they can now see that there will be a shortage of pilots in the near future. QF and the other LCCs doesn't seem to let up in buying or leasing their new toys.

I can't tell you much about myself on this forum for obvious reasons.
Anonymity is the whole idea that is afforded by a pseudonym, however, just PM me and let me know who you are.

Concerning foreign ATPL and conversion to the United States is pretty easy, so easy it's basically ridiculous.

Foreign Pilot Certificate Conversions (FAR 61.75):

In order to convert your foreign pilot certificates and ratings to FAA pilot certificates and ratings you must accomplish the following:
  • Bring a valid government issued photo ID
  • Bring original foreign pilot certificates and ratings.
  • Bring foreign pilot medical andor FAA issued medical certficate (minimum class III).
  • Fill out and bring to the examiner a letter of Verification or authenticity of foreign license, rating, and medical certification which is issued by the FAA to verify foreign pilot certificate and ratings held.
The process of obtaining the letter of verification of foreign licenses from the FAA may take several weeks so plan in advance.
  • if you want instrument rating priviliges on your FAA license issued on the basis of your foreign pilot license, you must take a IRA (Instrument Rating written test for foreign pilots conversions).
  • Complete an online IACRA or a Paper copy FAA 8710 Form and bring it to the examiner.

Guys,

Being a pilot really needs hardwork, dedication and money. If you are really filthy rich, go to PALavschool or CIA. If you don't have that much, go to any flying school in genav. Now if you really can't afford and flying is your passion, go to PAF.

If you fly in avschool/CIA - expensive and a possibility of an airline job right away.

Gen.Av - not that expensive but does'nt guarantee an airline job right away, but if you get lucky and have connections then it is really for you. You can be a Flight Instructor, cargo or charter pilot for a while. Fly for a couple of years to gain much needed experience and hours then apply for a better company.

PAF - only for the disciplined and determined. Standards are very high and training is vigorous. If you made it and survived, then you are one of the best...or the best, eventhough our PAF is not in par with the rest. Most of the airlines prefer pilots from PAF.

Being an A/P mechanic is not bad especially if you work with a good airline company. Pay is good and can definitely support your family.

It's really up to you guys on what direction you want to go. Keep on asking people with experience for you will definitely learn something from them, that's what I did.

Goodluck to all of us and be safe
Godbless...

Does anyone know who to contact in PAL if someone wants to do a recurrency in the B734 using the sim ?

I've seen the website and they seem to do it. Please let me know.

Otherwise, I'll pop my head in when I go there.

Hi Cessna1052 welcome back,

Things are really slow from the other end .... if you know what I mean. This waiting is killing me.

I'll fill you in when I have more info. Right now, they are "dragging their feet"... it's like watching paint to dry up.

Our friend ( from the hotel ) is still asking them everyweek to no avail.

Miami, Florida has better options for me and I'm very tempted.

New A319

Looks like PAL has a new kid in town. Saw and heard, couple of nights back around 2200 GMT from the tower, a brand new A319 fresh from hamburg for a full stop here in OMDB, just forgot the callsign.

Nice to see the national colors again

I don't think they even know what the guard frequency is, let alone 123.45.

i guess when i post this, some of you might think i'm crazy, but i know this is really what i want.

i am currently a holder of an FAA CMEL w/ IR. i almost have 500tt, and i am looking to work there in the Phil even if i'm currently here in the US... wether its PAL or CP it doesn't matter. as long as i'll fly heavy jets there. i would also like to know what are the proceedures and requirements for me to work there.
i came here as a student only, specifically for flight training.
i wanna work there cause i still love my country very much and i want to stay there inspite of the woes of our country... at least for the meantime.
so in conclusion, i'm just looking for a way to get in biz there...
paging PAL and CP pilots...
Thanks!
