All robust observations gentlemen and many good points.

I guess it is all up to how JB wants to run his business, there could be many different models to consider for flight crew wishing to join the Virgin group.

1. Join as a direct entry EMB 190 FO
2. Join as a direct entry 737 FO
3. Join as a direct entry A330 FO
4. Join as a direct entry 777 FO
5. Join as a direct entry F50 FO
6. Join as a direct entry ATR FO
7. Join as a direct entry F100 FO
8. Join as a direct entry A320 FO

of course then there is the cadet path where you could;

1. Join as a cadet FO on the EMB 190
2. Join as a cadet FO on the 737
3. Join as a cadet SO on the A330
4. Join as a cadet SO on the 777
5. Join as a cadet SO on the F50
6. Join as a cadet FO on the ATR
7. Join as a cadet FO on the F100
8. Join as a cadet FO on the A320

of course then one must consider would it be possible to transfer between all the different types,

EMB 190 to 737?
ATR to EMB 190?
F50 to ATR?
777 (SO) to F50 FO?
A320 to 737?
F100 to ATR?
Ad infinitum..

I think that those waiting on the hold file for Virgin have nothing to worry about, I have heard from a mate that JB himself has said that he values very highly the experience that is there and will personally see that they all get positions somewhere in the group as talent like that should not be passed over.

Interesting times ahead

Compylot...

It took me 10 minutes staring at your post to make any sense of it.

Which I still don't get, what I can decipher out of what you've written is that you have over complicated it.

For the next two years at least....If you want to work for Virgin and are on the hold file you will get -

1.E190 FO
2.737 FO
3.777SO

Cadets will be FO's on the ATR, which at this stage, is still Skywest.

Regardless of whether Tiger and Skywest are now part of the Virgin group, most people interested in working for VIRGIN, want to work for VIRGIN directly.

I would still love to work for Qantas main line, however I do not want to work for Jetstar, Network or Link.

So getting back to your original comment - No there is not 'many models' that will be considered re flight crew. JB has people in place to work this out. When it comes to Skywest and Tiger flight crew recruitment they have their own management and HR staff in place to sort themselves out.

As for your mate, yes loosely correct - JB has stated in many interviews that flight crew are well respected from his point of view, always have and always will as they are at the front of the ship, without them the airline doesn't run.....doesn't really directly link with pilots sitting on the hold file.

I think everyone is looking way too far into it, come the end of the year there will be no hold file as everyone would have been called, Virgin will have an accepting interest section under flight crew recruitment at the start of next year and the main topic in this thread will be, 'got an interview coming up' 'notes' 'tips'

Stress less

Actually you are wrong Digaf, Skywest no longer exist as of May 7th, it is now Virgin Australia Regional Airlines.

I had previously referred to them as VARA, for highlightings sake of that post I referred to them as Skywest.

It doesn't change (for now) that 'VARA' has their own recruitment department and that cadets will go to 'VARA'

I dare say come 2015 Vara pilots will find themselves on the seniority list, and recruitment for the ATR/F50/F100 will be integrated and streamlined into the Virgin mainline (shudder) process.

The same won't happen for Tiger unless VA buys the rest.

If or when VARA pilots are integrated onto the VAA pilot list, the best date on the list the VARA pilots could hope for is the 7th of May 2013. If any VARA pilot thinks they will end up higher on the list, are dreaming.

This is how they present to the world on their website...Western Australia's Leading Regional Airline - Skywest Airlines

Down the bottom of the page you will find this...
© Virgin Australia Regional Airlines Pty Ltd ABN 76 008 997 662
What would be the commercial advantage for JB to "merge" the operations? The cost benefits come from back room functions such as purchasing as a group, keep the workforce fragmented and AOCs separate to keep DOCs low.

GAFA we all know your thoughts on Skywest pilots. Conversely if any Virgin pilots thinks they will get a F100 command before current VARA crews they are also dreaming

Where they will go on the list if and when everything gets integrated will all be up for negotiation.

The skywest guys and gals will have to downgrade a few conditions by going onto the Virgin EBA first.....

Chadzat, what are my thoughts about Skywest/VARA pilots? I've been vocal on how management have handled some issues ie use of 457 pilots, but I haven't said anything against the pilots. My statements on other posts about VARA's future fleet is based on information senior management have told the VAA pilot group at numerous pilot forums. Anyone with Airline management experience knows having such a mixed and old fleet is not sustainable long term.

My statement above about the 7th of May is based on how the PAC Blue/VANZ pilots were integrated into the VAA pilot list. Their date of joining was based on when they first became employed by Virgin and not one of the contract companies. I and many other VAA pilots have heard Skywest/ VARA pilots talking in the crew rooms about a future integrated pilot list and how some senior Skywest/VARA pilots are expecting to be placed towards the top of the combined list, due to their length of service at Skywest and there is no way the VAA pilots would allow that.

Skywest were taken over by VAA (larger company), it wasn't a merger. If it was a merger than perhaps the senior Skywest pilots should deserve to be further up the list on any proposed combined pilot list.

An important thing to remember even if there is a combined pilot list, each company will continue to operate under separate AOC's and EBA's, as is the current situation with VAA, VAI and VANZ.

BTW the VAA EBA has far better conditions than the Skywest EBA!

dejapoo,

So show me some evidence of how I'm losing credibility on here.

I've been to the VAA roadshows the senior VAA management have held since the company announced the purchase of XR. And each time when the question of XR's fleet was raised the same answer was given, ' to many types and the fleet is to old'.

Regarding the EBA comment, so it's ok for Chadzat to to say the Skywest EBA conditions are better the VAA, but it's not ok for a VAA pilot to defend our EBA.

Qantas pilots seem to think we have a good EBA as they want our conditions;

Qantas pilots want terms Virgin offers

Haven't seen them ask for XR's conditions.

Go back to your research on EBA's you've been doing recently; when you are finished let us all know how you rate the VAA EBA.

For the record, I'm would like to see the XR pilots included on the combined pilot list and I've told this to the XR pilots I know and as well as my fellow VAA pilots. If it's ok for the cadets to have progression to VAA, then that profession should be made available to the XR pilots.

And to get back on topic;

The internal 737 course has been canceled and the current Ejet course start their VAA induction in a few weeks.

GAFA,

As most senior VARA pilots are in Perth and I know them, I can assure you that none expect to be on top of a combined list if and when the groups combine, and they certainly don't expect to walk into an A330 Command. We respect your list as much as we hope you'll respect ours.

Let's not start creating tension between groups because ultimately it only benefits Management and their bonuses.

Haven't seen them ask for XR's conditions.
That's because they already DO have Skywest conditions!!!

They get Business Class Travel, low overtime trigger, Strict Seniority. None of which Virgin has.

Now QF pilots want to top all that up with some of the benefits of the VA agreement! Mainly because their flying hours are probably going to decrease so they are effectively going to take a pay cut because the overtime trigger is so low, so they want to get on the VA idea of higher salary but with a higher overtime trigger. QF only get paid well when they do alot of flying. Their pay crashes when the company farms out all their flying to subcontractors.

My money is on the two companys remaining separate. If you want to work for either apply to that company. Don't join XR thinking you will get into VA.

Anyway something to consider on your next paxing sector in row 35........

Chadzat said xr would need to downgrade some conditions - this is true.

As for any future integration, all they need to do is negotiate something in their EBA which promises career progression within VAA, without any input from the VAA pilot group, and threaten legal action if the VAA guys don't agree - it's been done before...

Neville, as GAFA will tell you, don't you know they've had a policy change?
It is in the EBA for sectors over a certain time length. Policy can change all it wants but if you want play hard ball it is in the EBA which is a legal document that the company has signed. I understand people were enforcing it when the sims were in France which didn't go down to well. If you wish you ignore the EBA and accept policy that's up to you.

As for any future integration, all they need to do is negotiate something in their EBA which promises career progression within VAA, without any input from the VAA pilot group, and threaten legal action if the VAA guys don't agree - it's been done before...
Ask yourself why would VA negotiate such onerous conditions on themselves?

My money is definitely on XR and VA being separate nothing will merge there.

So the list goes
VAA / VAI / VANZ any current direct entry F/O or CRFO then VARA after that (assuming its agreed they are placed on it in the first place)

Am I reading into this correctly ?
That's one long list not sure how many Pilots must be on that but it's got to be close to 2000 !

ATR jobs

I see today they are advertising for ATR First Officer jobs. I wonder how many will apply and if there is any advantage in doing so in order to eventually join the domestic or VAI fleets!?

Finding the right page is the first test - means they don't have to use all that psychometric rubbish the Qantas group do:

Job details - Regional Flight Crew - ATR First Officers - Expression of Interest | Virgin Australia

Good luck
