I have to say that they are treating those on the hold pretty poorly. No updates, don't respond to calls or emails. No other industry would string their applicants along like this.....

Do you want to work for them or not? Its their play pen and they can pretty much do as they want in it. If you want to work for them then accept that. If not, then make tracks elsewhere.

At present it is an employers market with plenty of qualified applicants with the likelihood of plenty more joining the ranks of the experienced and willing before there will be any substantive changes in this particular job market. With QANTAS calling a truce in the capacity war it has been waging with Virgin I expect the need for more fresh crew will be even further reduced. Get used to waiting.

I hate to say it but that's Aviation no matter which company you join. It will always be an employers market as there will never be a time when people don't want to be part of the so called "glamour" no matter what the reality.

From here on in those that have a seat are simply lucky to have one.

@ Plovett

While I know you're right and agree with you wholeheartedly, when I say I have become numb, by this I mean:

Interviewed over 2 years ago, for Virgin domestic. Told in interview to be expected to be on hold file for up to a year.

Email from VA 4-5 months after asking to go on international cruise FO hold file.

A few Handfuls of People who got interviewed after you seem to get a job.

Hooray! Over a year after initial interview, get a phonecall on a Friday for a B777 gig. Oh dear On the Monday (after the same weekend) - "I'm so sorry the course has been cancelled"....

Another year later, and a major change of the employees in the recruitment department. Oh boy, an email: "Urgent! Call to action"!

After details were updated, a response saying "we will call you by the end of next week"....

"The end of next week" was now over a week ago and still no whisper...

Am I complaining.... No (just a light hearted release of frustration)...
Do i understand airline recruiting... Well, they've given me over 2 years to get to know what it's like.
Is it unfair?
Well, I guess we're being treated better than the last group of Qantas hold file peeps.
I'm just numb.

Plovett, I am on other hold files as well and their respective HR departments always answer the phones and respond to my emails, not to mention give me honest opinions about where recruitment is heading (not just "nothing for the foreseeable future").

Obviously they're a business susceptible to a huge array of factors, but I have to admit even a "nothing for the next 6 months" would make planning life a little easier

Not that this will help, but several years ago I was told no more courses for 8-9 months, three weeks later I was called with a start date. HR do not always have the best information so I wouldn't bet on anything they do provide. Until you have a contract in front of you it can always change.

Best of luck to those waiting, hopefully you'll get a start date that will work for you, ..... eventually.

Word had it they will only fill the positions of the guys that are going to Vanz. 4 I am lead to believe!

Originally it was predicted that there were going to be 330 positions that they needed to fill which would create enough movement to open up potentially another 6-9 crz fo positions some time in the 3rd quarter - this is no longer happening. 330 positions have also been put on the back burner!

With crz fo's not doing much work I wonder if they have worked out that the extra workload created by the 4 pilots leaving could easily be shared by the remainder.

If this is the case maybe we won't see any crz fo positions come up this year?!

The 4 coming to VANZ may have hit a snag, as they are apparently inside their 2 year lock on type. If this is the case, any in waiting may be offered 737 slots with VANZ?

I would be wary of leaving a stable flying gig for a VANZ slot.

Yesterday it was announced that VANZ management is to be incorporated into VA's Brisbane head office link here

The only NZ based workers left are the pilots and cabin crew.

Now VA has transformed from a low cost carrier to become a ‘full service’ airline there is no reason to compete with your alliance partner and major shareholder, AirNZ head to head on the south pacific... especially now with Air NZ CEO on VA’s board… I am sure he would want to see capacity cut and yields improve for the south pac routes.

How long before they figure out that Air NZ can do most of the south pacific routes ex AKL and VAA can do the tasman and south pac ex OZ and wind up VANZ completely? I think the writing is on the wall…

I think I might pass the VANZ opportunity up and stay on the dash 8 for another year or so…

Yes. The only guys who would go to VANZ are the crz F/O's and if they can't because of type lock, then I would think the hold file option would be explored.

Oh wow, this makes things a lot different! I know there have been rumours for years about VAA doing the Pac Blue flying but now with ANZ as an alliance partner the rumour has a lot more strength to it and makes more commercial sense.

Does anyone have the breakdown of VANZ v V Aus losses? the ASX financial docs for VAH only have Int v Dom. It would be interesting to know if VANZ is the one bringing down the Int part of VA.

I wonder if they will start up low cost Tiger in NZ after they shut down VANZ...

WileE if you have any inside knowledge can you PM me please
