Virgin Blue hiring

I agree, it certainly doesn't sound as if they need many pilots asap... to me the general vibe of the e-mail was the exact opposite. I read it as they have too many people on VAA hold compared to the amount of positions that will be available, factoring in how many crz fo's will be moving over next year. It didn't sound very positive to me at all
I'd love to hear everyone elses opinion

Atlas....agreed.....I guess the big thing to consider is seniority, although not sure if the international arm has joint seniority as of yet...others in the know may know this!
I guess in some way at least your foot is in the door so to speak.

Only base available at moment is Sydney. Virgin will get you to Sydney however if your domicile is not Sydney at the company's expense. I may be corrected from others.

I have never received a reply from any email I have ever sent from the Virgin HR team.

For any VAI 777ers out there, what is the roster like each month? I've heard two trips per month, but not sure what sort of break, that means between each trip, or the length of the layover.
One last question (the answer to I couldn't find in the previous 400 posts). Once you're taken off the hold file, what's the process? Do they offer you a fleet type and base, or just the fleet type with the base TBC during training? Obviously SYD for the 777, but how about the e-jet?

Hi Multione,
That timeframe was after being placed on the hold file. There is no real "normal" time that it takes, it is all down to crew requirements and being able to run courses etc.
Aimpoint - Start date offers for domestic include an expected base, where the company envisages they need crew at the time.
Congratulations on making the hold file and all the best with what is ahead. I agree totally with some of the advise above, take what is offered to you first.

I believe that you are assigned a VAA seniority number when you join VAI, so joining sooner rather than later gets you ahead in that department.
I'm hoping to get an answer early next week. IMHO, if the seniority does count, then this would be a good option long term; i.e. trying to get an upgrade in 6 years time!

Thanks Turb Eddy...
Taking the first offer may be the way to go, but considering the last minute EBA surprises we've just seen, who knows what's the best avenue...
Cheers Multi

For those of you on the hold file, you do NOT get group seniority joining VAI.
This was a proposal in the proposed EBA which just got voted down. Source - Virgin HR. Hope this helps those on the hold file with their decisions.

If you are a member of the AFAP there is an update on the group list in the Virgin Australia EBA section.
Looks like VAA courses are still on track for early next year with inductions running from March - May.

Out of all of this does anyone know what the delay is a result of? EBA, A330 delays or combination of the aforementioned?

What is all this stuff about "upgrades in 6 years"?
have a look at the fleet numbers and the order book. There are currently 500+ FOs in the group. At 50 commands per year (massive expansion!!) that would equate to 10 years to a command.
The 4-6 years to a command that many dream about was an industrial anomaly. Even 50 new command per year would be very optimistic. Have some realistic expectations before you join the company, please. Some amongst the current batch of FOs who joined in 2010-12 still belive that they will get commands within the the next few years (ie: 4-6 years of them joining). The reality is that pilots who have starts in mid 2008- early 2009 still have 300++ other FOs in front of them for command upgrades.
This false belief is causing massive headaches for everyone as they bleat "where is my command??".
The industry has gone back to 'traditional' periods of indenture until a Captaincy comes along. New join FOs in any company can expect to do 10-15 years to command.
