Ukraine War Thread Part 2
IIRC the port uses old floating docks for ship repair - they weren't in very good shape when I was there and I doubt there's been a major upgrade.
Not a place you'd want to take a damaged warship unless there is no alternative.
It's much more a commercial port and the main warm water port for shipping oil and importing goods (especially from Turkey). Any onshore damage would seriously hurt Russian efforts

Tensions between Poland and Belarus continue to escalate.
Polish combat helicopters now patrol the Belarus border, armed and authorized to fire without hesitation. This response follows airspace violations by Belarusian military helicopters who flew low and undetected …
Poland's Defense Minister said the armed helicopters are on standby readiness at 2 bases near the border. Pilots have combat experience and will fire without hesitation if provoked, he warned.

They have docked it with a tug alongside to keep it from capsizing.

Ukrainian troops through the first line of defence, if the West hadn’t dithered on tanks etc they would not be having these problems.

More on the listing LST ship.
FWIW, SO3 disolves in water (H2O) to form Sulphonic Acid (H2SO3) which, whilst not as acidic as Sulphuric Acid (H2SO4), is quite corrosive - and thus rather dangerous in its own right (See, I think I still remember a bit of my school chemistry! )

If confirmed this may make the entire Black Sea a no go zone…
Russian channels report three naval drones attacked the Crimea bridge (official reports claim drones were destroyed), but another drone reported hitting an oil tanker approx 30 miles from the bridge...which may have been the real target?
More information on the above…
For the past hour or so, alarming information is coming about another incident in the Black Sea, with the most recent reports mentioning another Russian vessel being hit, although reportedly it's a transport ship.
By the looks of it, the information about an attack involving several drones against an oil tanker, or other targets, is true. Traffic on the Russian bridge was stopped. This all is the result of pulling out of the grain deal.
Indeed, the Sig oil tanker that Russian channels report was hit, was in the right place near the bridge and appears to have shuttled oil between Crimea and Syria, worked for Russian armed forces and was thus a legitimate military target.
The Vessel “Sig” a Russian-Flagged Chemical/Oil Products Tanker has reportedly been Struck by a Naval-Surface Drone while it was attempting to Transit the Kerch Strait on approach the Port of Kavkaz in Southwestern Russia; the Strike has reportedly resulting in No Casualties but Severe Flooding to the Engine Room of the Vessel with Emergency and nearby Ships moving to Assist.

Possibly another attack on the Kerch bridge.
Ecce Homo! Loquitur...
All kicking off tonight…
At least three explosions have already been reported near the Crimean bridge!
Also, traffic jams in the area of the bridge have already been noticed on maps.

So you decide to skip that holiday in Crimea because of the war and spend it in Russia on the beach resting peacefully, and watching some of your mighty Black Sea fleet limping home…. totally and utterly demoralising….. this has got to put the fear of God into Russian naval forces that sail out from either port to launch missile strikes.
I cannot see any other way for this attack to have taken place unless the USV’s were loitering in the area as I would imagine the range to be too great to launch and Intercept from Ukraine in the timeframe available.
These have got to be a major game changer in future warfare, for a few thousand dollars each you can build them in the thousands and a swarm of several hundred against the likes of a carrier fleet will be pretty much unstoppable, the Kamikaze has come of age.
