Look all i know is the MOD said the shoes should offer some IED protection by setting off anything in front of you, as for the rest of the kit, well I believe the MOD were offered the shoes at £1995 each or with the full suit all in at £13,329.99, so they took the full set on the grounds that if it is more expensive it has to be better..
