The most interesting thing on this thread is that when it was just 'anti BASSA' protesters the BASSA militants had, at least, a voice.
After their Union has pushed the nuclear option on them without warning or necessity then those voices are quiet.
Once the public, the passengers and the customers realised exactly the stupidity of the 'Union' and voice an opinion the BASSA militants seem less willing to justify their position.
Thus I can only conclude that they too had no realisation as to the abject stupidity of their leaders!

Please don't let the actions of some intellectually challenged biscuit chuckers affect your opinion of all BA staff, and the company as a whole.
There are good crew members out there, who care deeply about pax and the company. Sadly they seem to be in the minority. There are also many other branches of the company who will do their utmost to keep the show on the road.
This is a difficult time for all those who care, but if we are able to finally cut the dead wood from the company at least there will be some good coming out of this. I hope noones travel plans are disrupted.
I am very shortly to become a father for the first time, however if it comes to it I will come in during my paternity leave in uniform to help customers in the terminal or even man a trolley.
There are many more like me who care deeply about this company, and want it to come out the other side of this crisis. The cancer within the company that is BASSA must be destroyed once and for all. £30-60k for CC is taking the p155.

Whilst not wanting to get involved in the emotional whys and wherefores behind the proposed strike, the decision by UNITE to focus industrial action over the Christmas period has all the potential to be one of the biggest trade union public relations disasters of all time.
Few industrial actions on this scale are won without public support, and contrary to the opinion of an earlier poster I don't think Jo public who finds their Chritmas travel plans ruined, will be very forgiving and memories are long.
Although most members appear to have voted for strike action, it is debatable as to how many members anticipated the intial strike being for twelve days over the Christmas period and the danger for the Union is that some members who voted 'yes' could now waver in their support, if they perceive this is excessive. That is why most recent UK industrial action tends to be for multiple 48 hour periods.
Dare I say that UNITE could have well played into WW's hands and rescued defeat from the jaws of victory!

LD,
If you look at certain 'company' forums I think you will find that there are many of us 'frustrated flight crew' who are also prepared to help out over this period during the idiotic Unite strike.
That comes from senior Boeing 747 Captains down to the most junior 737 co-pilots and everyone in between, including myself.
It is, indeed, quite humbling that ALL of the other departments of BA are working their nuts off to minimise the potential impact of this stupidity.
BASSA is like a rabid dog, time to put the poor animal down for its own good.

Just seen the news on ITV and couldn't help laughing out loud when they read out the email from the union. How did it end again, something like:
"it's better to die on your feet than live on your knees!"
I don't know who wrote that but I'm sure it was a reincarnation of "Red Robbo".
For those too young to remember him, he was the union leader at Longbridge in the 70's. The company - British Leyland!!

I'd like to apologise to all our loyal passengers and colleagues in BA in view of the Strike on the 22nd. I was off duty from the 24th till the 29th of December and also over New Year, but sadly have cancelled Christmas to operate any flight I can to help BA maintain our operation. I never thought I'd ever say this, but for the first time in 26 years, I feel embarrassed to say I'm BA cabin crew.
So very sad to see one the greatest British iconic brands being destroyed.
I'm BA cabin crew and the above are my own views and not of my employer's.

Admire the spirit of those who try to run with the ball.
BASSA though is not unique to BA. It is the British Airlines Steward and Stewardesses Association. Other British airlines such as Thomson have it.

So on we go to the High Court Willie's getting to the point the public will turn against him when the public hear how all along he has wanted this fight now the gloves are off lets see who is left standing. Well two visits to the High Court not bad for a dispute which is yet to start lets hope Bassa win and the Wee man ends up with egg on his face. This is a fine game of chess next move 2pm tomorrow if Bassa lose then another ballot with even more than 92.49% with or without VR people we shall press on until our fight has been won.

Well done, Tiramisu!
It's people like Tiramisu who made BA once the World's Favourite, and it is a great pity that their pride in the job has been crushed by the baying, braying BASSA boot-boys and girls.

When will the concerted effort start to convince all CC colleagues to resign from this Union?
In my opinion it is the only way to stop the union, ie by cutting away their money and membership base
Till then the Union represents you too....

The dammage has been done but we can still try to get as many of our
pax off for their christmas holidays as we can!!
Resign from Bassa and save youselves 120 quid a year !!!

Tongue might not be in cheek, but head firmly somewhere else.....
Been told that grounded CC are to report to place of work as normal and leave for the 12 day period if not already booked is to be reported back immediately. So no get-out there either.

I've no idea who'll be left standing if there is a fight to the end, but I've got a good idea where - how about the dole queue or if you're lucky McDonalds flipping burgers!

Chess
This is a fine game of chess
UNITE have encouraged BASSA to shatter hundreds of thousands of Christmas dreams, destroy the - albeit fading - reputation of a once great airline and threaten thousands of loyal employees with involuntary redundancy during the worst recession since the Great Depression.... to gain exactly what? Safeguard their members' jobs? Salaries? Terms and Conditions? When there ain't no airline to employ them? That's not subtle, that's mindless.
UNITE/BASSA have kicked over the chessboard.

I have to say im on the side of BA on this one, I hope they find some way to avert the strike.
If it goes ahead I hope the airline can survive, if it doesnt I wish the best of luck to all the CC who will have to find jobs at other airlines that pay the same salary as BA.
Well done to the 90% of the CC who have destroyed the once "worlds favourite airline" you've all done yourself out of a job !!!
