Bands Pay

Before a single ballot paper was issued nearly 3 yrs ago for EBA6 in long haul, the then officials led by Greg Broome Troy Warner and Johanna Brem were told of the bands pay deal in short haul from the floor of a meeting at the rowers club,

That meeting requested the then officials to go back to the company and have it rectified before the agreement was voted on. They were unable to get the company to change their position.

MM did issue a letter in early 2004 and indicated as been published here that he would attempt to overturn it as well.

i guess at the end of the day it's almost impossible to unscramble an omellette. I think what he was able to do was remove the Clause in the Long Haul EBA that would have resulted in a pay cut for all of us ( Pay Equalisation) and also get a cap reintroduced when the previous officials had negotiated the removal of a cap altogther.

i think the challenge of getting something overturned in the short haul eba was not only too ambitious for long haul faaa but now its seems too hard for even the short haul to reverse it even with a great deal of pressure from within their own ranks from ex long haul crew.

Our real concern here is the imminent start up of Jetstar International

Well our clever mates in the S/H FAAA have decided to run some info sessions for our upcoming EBA.

If your in Sydney, Melb or Brissy you have a choice of 2 meetings to attend. Perth have 1.

SO this is it??? The FAAA is only running 2 days?? Ummm...maybe some of us are working.

MORE DATES REQUIRED FAAA!!! Here's a shocking thought....we work shift work!! We go away!! I know that not everyone can make it but for gods sake give us a few more info sessions. Or do they not want the masses to attend?

controlled info release

by having just two meeting the sh faaa hopes not many of the rank and file can attend, therefore minimising questions. its an old union officials game.

I have followed this thread with great interest. I was a Flight Attendant for 13 years both here in NZ and Australia. I spent approx 7 years as a cabin manager and about 3 as a work place delegate for the FAAA. I loved flying and still have aviation in my blood. Yes I did work for Ansett and have a number of friends that fly both S/H and L/H for QF. I also have a number of friends that fly for AO. It would be fair to say I have been there done that. I am now a Branch Manager in a large company responsible for 2.6 million in sales this fin year. Now to my point. Girls & Guys. You DID have a great income for a number of years. Now welcome to the real world. It will never be the same again. Dream of the old days, get on with what you have and if you dont like it that much I would suggest leaving. There is another whole world out there. Have a look outside of the square. The pay and conditions most cabin crew are paid is a little over the top. I look forward to your comments.

the point that flyagain raises is a valid one. some flight attendants are very well paid by community standards and some in the regionals arent paid very well at all.

the real challenge for those of us that want to stay is to get the balance right between the necessary productivity and pay, and the alternatives of leaving, as flyagain suggests ,or worse being operationally restructured out of work by cheaper low cost flight attendant replacements.

There truly is a world beyond airlines and being a flight attendant. But for most crew its not a life that is attractive. i guess flying is as much a lifestyle as it is a job/career and most of us get great job satisfaction. rarely do i hear crew complain of the job itself, but moreso about the way we are managed.

There are a lot of our managers that actually work far longer hours than crew and have less glam lives too and are very jealous of our "lifestyles".

We have to keep them under control by not giving them too big a target

I'm curious if flyagainthought he his pay was a little over the top during the 13 years he flew?. His views now don't surprise me , I'm sure he would love to see the village he left burnt to the ground as a justification for having departed.
Self fagellation is perfectly understandable from ex F/A's.

A little harder to understand from current ones.

Folks , don't be too hard on flyagain . I am also an ex ansett f/a who chose not to return to the industry . I have just spent almost 3 years at uni to become a fully qualified advance life support paramedic - a fabulous job that I love. Interestingly, even when fully qualified I will earn $20k per year less than my last year at ansett as a cabin manager-and for working many more hours as well. There is no way want to see the fabulous wages and conditions earned by mainline Q.F crews eroded however , as long as there are people prepared to work for regional type wages ,and the p***k that runs Q.F remains determined to drive costs down, it will be very difficult to maintain them . From the outside I watch with depair as Jet*erodes Q.F domestic ,( and soon longhaul ) A.O and Q.F shorthaul erode Long Haul etc etc.

I wish you all well , but there are no jobs in the real world that offer the same wage and conditions for no qualification.

From one who's seen things from both sides,

Priapism

Grrr and the reality is

it used to take around 10 years to become a longhaul csm. today you go to sh or lhr base if you want a promotion at a educed rate (thanks to sh selling out lh again and again). if you do your aprenticeship lets say 4 years as plumber, electrician etc. you laugh at f/a's salary. i keep hearing it from my tradies.

qcc2,

You should then consider doing a 4 year plumbers apprenticeship at SLAVE wages to then earn a qualification and a right to earn a lot if you work hard!
My brother in law has done this and earns damn good money for working (self employed ) 6 days a week , often in filthy, dirty and muddy conditions and turning a blind eye to occupational health and safety in order to get the job done at the quoted price. Not to mention the hours at night doing the paper work, chasing people for money , BAS statements etc, etc. When you work like this guy does you have a right to laugh at F/A wages...and that my friend is the reality.

I don't know any plumbers or tradesman who go to work with the threat hanging over them of some radical religious zealot wanting to hijack them and fly them into a building at 600mph ........... it really spoils your day....just watch any of the documentaries on 9/11 and particularly the chilling phone calls made by the crew onboard those fateful flights. When I saw an ashen faced CEO fronting the media after the failed Tassie flight hijack attempt and injuries to the crew I thought maybe he now knows what we go through.....alas apparently not to be.

I regard myself as well paid for my job and our executives as obscenely overpaid for theirs.

Lets move on.............

Talking

Well said priapism. For those that think their conditions and pay are a given right, sorry but your head is in the sand. Next time you have an hour or two in the back galley have a read of the business section in any newspaper. All companies need to cut back on most things and your wages are a target. As much as you would all love things to stay the same and good luck to you if they do I feel you are in for a shock. its the 21st century and welcome to it.

qcc2. In 10 years you could have a degree or 2 behind you as well.

I know you Kiwi's are a bit thurk , but an hour or two just to read the business section ?
Anyway the only thung you can believe in the newspapers is the price in the top corner of the front page and if it's a Kiwi newspaper I wouldn't bet my house on that being right either ..
