The company certainly likes to have an each way bet...

Register the company in the UK so as to absolve the company from their Australian obligations with superanuation etc....

When someone points out a european law then they revert to an Australian company again as it suits them...

I think it is not only time to get some decent representation by a union but also to bring this to the attention of the media

I'm not so sure about the media coverage. There are a number of scribes out there that would love a story if they could pin something on the big rat..It probably would not be with one particular media group who's owner is on the board and who has a bad memory...but that is only one company

I agree though ,that we need to find someone who has some legal ability

ownership of media in Australia

yeh right, R3A - and just who owns A Current Affair ??- I believe he's having a chard in the boardroom with Marg & Geoff - while I'm paying for dad's funeral.
Anyway, How was the holiday in Malta you had that cost you your job?

QC Intervirw

Went to QC interview in Dec(LHR) with two work mates all three of us got through the second stage then in January we received a letter sying not enough experience, I myself excepted it because of my age (59) with nearlly forty years service and also I was part of the Royal flt team in B.A my two mates have 18 years of time served between them. For me to get enough expience I would be 109 years old still not sour grapes and I wish all those in QC and QC it self all the very best

I have not seen the LH to SH contract for crew transfering over in Perth but I have been told by a Perth crew member it contains the stadard clause which states something along with the lines of from time to time you may be required to undertake duties for any associated entity or company as directed by Qantas. Or something like that. That clause is also inlcluded in my contract and I joined the company well before all this transmission of business, Jetstar, IR etc etc. So this clause is nothing new.

Cartex,

I can fill you in very quickly what is happening with the current shorthaul EBA negotiations..... f*ck all.

We have heard NOTHING regarding what we are even neg for. Oh...apart from the fact that they are offering us a heap of perm part-time positions. What a carrot to dangle. And you know what....i'll give you a hint on whats about to happen....

They will offer us a crap EBA (FAAA saying it's the best we can do blah blah) and a whole bunch of the mothers club will vote for it because they only get their part-time if the EBA gets through, otherwise back to the 8year waiting list. And hey...they dont have to do the Mumbai's that we will get lumbered with because they are senior enough to bid around them.

Oh yeah, and when they get this EBA through they will all go part-time and who will replace them flying?? MAM casuals. Great...soon they will outnumber the fulltimers.

And i forgot to add to that last post of mine that this is part of a report about QF in yesterdays Sydney Morning Herald

"Optimism over Qantas' international operations comes amid signs the airline's domestic arm is enjoying its best-ever trading conditions"

Hmmm...doesnt that kinda give us some sort of bargaining power?? Unfortunatley i think i know the answer...

sydney sh
I think you have hit it on the head, yes everyone will look out for themselves, and youre right the mothers club will only worry about their part time and the attitude of" screw the rest" will prevail.
Same thing happens in Long Haul,

thanks Galleyhag - I think I've been reading too many conspiracy theory novels in the back galley -still there appear to be more and more "flexible "clauses open to wide ranging interpretation appearing in Qantas documents......who can forget just 'recognition' for the L/H de-crewing fiasco.........

In todays Herald....

"Two passenger planes have clipped wings on the runway at Melbourne Airport, sparking an air safety investigation and delaying passengers.
A Qantas Boeing 767, carrying 155 passengers and 11 crew, and a United Airlines 747, carrying 99 passengers and 14 crew, were both due to leave the airport when the incident occurred about 1.30pm (AEDT)."

We wish....since when have QF carried 11 crew on a (QF434) 767 domestic lunch sector!

Funbags…

Does that mean by using your maths that there are 9 cabin crew on a 767 and 10 cabin crew on the 747 supposing that there are 4 tech crew or 12 cabin crew if there were only 2 tech crew ?

Since when has the media worried about little details like facts when they do a story

Short Haul EBA

Hi Folks found this on the web this afternoon, its the questions and answer, so they are getting team leaders in short haul instead of the second senior! hmmm you thoughts

Shorthaul EBA7: Q&A
1. Pay Increase
Why is the salary backdated till 1 July 2005 when EBA 6 only expired in September
2005?
The last salary increase that shorthaul crew members received was the adjustment made on
1 July 2004.
Does the salary increase apply to Duty Travel Allowance (DTA)?
No, DTA is adjusted in line with the Australian Tax Office (ATO) ruling that is handed down in
April each year. The salary increase however will apply to other allowances such as route
pay, bands, trainer, higher duties, accommodation in lieu, disability, miscellaneous expense,
grooming and initial posting.
2. Flexible Work Arrangement
Does the 100% guarantee on FWA releases apply to CSMs?
No, this guarantee only applies to full time permanent flight attendants.
3. Permanent Part-Time
If I elect to take up a permanent-part time position, how long will it take before I am
converted to part-time status?
It is expected that the first group of conversions will be planned in the first bid period
following the EBA certification. At this stage, specific information regarding the number of
conversions to occur in each bid and subsequent timing has not yet been determined.
4. Reserve Line Bids
Will CSMs be affected by the changes in the reserve line bidding rules?
No, the changes in reserve line bidding will only apply to the Flight Attendant (FA) category.
5. Bidding Window
How is the payment determined for the extra hours worked due to the changes in the
full-time bidding window?
Where the roster for a full-time crew member is built above 123 hours, the hours retained
above 123 will be paid in the same way as the pick up of hours under FWA. Therefore this
extra payment only applies to ‘actual’ extra hours worked/retained.
6. Crew Meals
Do the changes in inflight crew meals affect ‘regional flying’ flights?
No, the changes in crew meals only apply to domestic flights crewed solely by shorthaul crew.
All international flights will be based on the longhaul meal policy.
7. Arrangements for Second Senior / Team Leader
If there is more than one crew member trained as ‘team leader’ on a particular flight,
who is deemed as the team leader?
If more than one flight attendant on a flight has successfully completed the ‘team leader’
training, there will be a discussion between the eligible crew and the CSM with the aim of
ensuring recency is maintained for all crew who have completed the training. Where there is
not a recency issue, the most senior trained crew member will have the first right of refusal.
What happens in the event that none of the crew members on a particular flight have
completed the ‘team leader’ training?
The “team leader” role will be assigned to the most senior permanent crew member.
Do you need to be trained as a team leader on the narrow-bodied aircraft?
Yes, you will need to be trained to become a “team leader” to operate on both the widebodied
and narrow-bodied aircraft.
Will the “Team Leader” role also be available to MAM casuals?
Yes, MAM casuals will also be eligible to apply for the “team leader” role.
8. Right to Request – Additional Family Leave
Does the additional family leave entitlement apply to crew members who commenced
maternity leave prior to EBA certification?
The extension of family leave from 52 weeks to 104 weeks following the birth the child will
apply to crew members who commence maternity leave after the EBA certification date.
9. Back of Clock
Do the new ‘back of clock’ limits apply to hours assigned/picked up from CRAM and
FWA?
No, the limit of 4 ‘back of clocks’ only apply at a CAM roster build level (i.e. planned basis). It
does not apply to the hours assigned/pick up during the CRAM/FWA process or during the
operational month.
10. Return Option for ex Long Haul crew
I am an ex-longhaul CSM that recently transferred to the shorthaul division. If I choose
to return to longhaul under the one-off return option, will I retain my seniority and
category?
Yes, you will return to the longhaul division as a CSM and go back to the pay point you would
have been on if you had not transferred to the shorthaul division.

Information on the Short Haul Flight Attendants’ Enterprise Agreement Friday 3 February 2006
Promotional and Career Opportunities
Customer Service Manager promotions
· Promotional opportunities to the Customer Service Manager category will be offered to permanent
Qantas Flight Attendants to offset reduced flying preferences from the current Customer Service
Management team.
Second Senior Replaced by New Team Leader Role
· The Second Senior role (domestic and regional patterns) will be replaced with a “Team Leader”
role.
· Specific tasks have been determined for the role. All Flight Attendants will have the opportunity to
apply and will be eligible to perform the role subject to meeting the training and assessment
standards.
· The Team Leader allowance on all wide-bodied flights will increase to $4.12 per block hour
(inclusive of the first 3 percent pay increase for EBA 7) and will then be adjusted in line with
subsequent pay increases.
· The Team Leader allowance on all narrow body flights will increase to $1.38 per block hour and
then be frozen.

Crew Meals
For domestic flights only, to reduce the amount of wastage of crew meals the following is agreed:
· Breakfast, lunch and dinner will continue to be provided on board at revised load factor of 80
percent.
· Refreshments and supper will no longer be provided.
Meal Break Not Taken
· The automatic payment of a ‘Meal break not taken’ allowance will be replaced by individual claims
for the allowance by the Flight Attendant to their manager countersigned by their Customer Service
Manager.
Additional Parental Leave
· The maximum period of parental leave available to the primary care provider for a child will be
increased from 52 weeks to 104 weeks following the birth of the child.
Sick Leave
· As an alternative to taking sick leave, suitably skilled crew who are fit to work in a ground role but
who are not fit to fly, may on a mutually agreed and voluntary basis be offered ground duties in lieu of
being debited sick leave.
· The sick leave notification provision will increase from two hours to three hours.
· The current annual provision of four days of sick leave (to a maximum of three continuous days)
without a medical certificate will remain. However, a medical certificate will be required for any sick
leave days between consecutive releases on FWA.
· Medical Certificates will be required for all six (6) URTI days.
· The current provision of up to 90 days leave on half pay where paid sick leave has been exhausted
will be replaced with 120 days leave, where the first 30 days are on half pay and the subsequent 90
days are unpaid.
· During the term of EBA 7 a joint review will be undertaken on the effectiveness of the changes
made to sick leave in EBA 7, and opportunities to further reduce sick leave and absenteeism will be
discussed.
Clause 66 disciplinary procedures
· This will be amended to work alongside current company policy for disciplinary action. The purpose
of this change is to provide a more flexible range of options for managing performance and conduct
issues to the benefit of all parties.
Information on the Short Haul Flight Attendants’ Enterprise Agreement Friday 3 February 2006
Bidding for Reserve Line
· Permanent Flight Attendants who bid for a reserve roster for the first bid period commencing
after certification of this EBA will retain the right to bid for reserve for each subsequent bid
period on an ongoing basis up until the time you elect to bid for a flying line at which point you
surrender the ability to bid for reserve.
Bidding Window
· The revised bidding window for Part Time crew will be 64 to 66 hours.
· The revised bidding window for Full Time crew will be 122 to 124 hours.
Security Training above Divisor
· One day of security training per annum will be above the Divisor at the discretion of Qantas.
· Security and EP training above the Divisor will not be rostered in the same month.
Trip Swaps
· The 50 percent cap on trip swaps will be removed and during the life of the Agreement we
will investigate the possibility of an “on line” system.
“28 Day” Roster
· The transition to a 28 day roster has been agreed in principle. During the life of this
Agreement, the parties will conduct further discussions and agree on the changes that will be
required, with the introduction of IT Systems, including pro-rata arrangements for terms and
conditions of employment.
Back of Clock
· It is agreed that current work rules will be changed to reflect a limit of four planned back of
clocks per Flight Attendant per CAM roster build.
Upline Re-Allocation
· The FAAA will provide dispensations to enable Qantas to exchange crew in ports where
there is a crew base, as well as out-ports, to ensure schedule integrity. Crewing will do all
possible when exchanging crews to attempt to ensure that crew can still operate their next
blocked duty.
In addition but not part of the EBA:
Crewing Levels
In line with the current service specification an additional crew member will continue to be
provided on a planned or unplanned basis on SYD-BNE Dinner flights on B737, B767 and
A330-200 aircraft.
Return Option for ex Long Haul crew
Long Haul crew who have transferred to Short Haul since the certification of EBA 6 will be
given a special opportunity at the commencement of this Agreement to return to Long Haul.
For this special opportunity only, the return to Long Haul will be to the same increment point
and position the employee would have been on in Long Haul if they had not transferred to
Short Haul.

To respond to you Lowerlobe...i'll have a go and explaining the difference with the new EBA proposal.

The whole 2nd snr thing is that currently on the day the most senior F/A on the crew runs the economy service (a very basic CSS). But hey, on a CBR return you hardly need a qualified 2nd Snr! It seems like now you'll have to apply to become the "Team Leader". I can bet you that there will be loads of flights that wont end up have a qualified team leader and subsequently just go back to the old 2nd snr way. And they get a slight pay rise.

The FWA dumping. So if your a F/A and want to dump a duty you used to be only be able to dump if someone picked up your duty. Now they are saying that if you dump it's a guarantee it's gone. (Presume it's picked up by MAM Casuals). If your a CSM its still the old ways of hoping someone will take your dumped duty or straight back to ya.

Crew Meals. We will only get a breakfast, lunch and dinner crew meal loaded at 80%. So, you do a MEL 4leg day - 10hrs20min for example. Your sign on is during a breakfast service. On a big aircraft 2 of the crew wont get to eat a crew meal - lets hope there's a pax meal left (sometimes 0 meals left). Presume no crew meals. Then next leg is morning tea - no crew meals/snacks loaded as per new EBA. Next leg could be at 1330, after the lunch service has ended - no crew meals loaded and then your last leg is also afternoon tea (flies before 1800hrs) so no meal loaded again.
You would get an hr or so on the ground with possibly an aircraft change to go and grab something. So 20% of the crew have to buy their lunch. As a CSM how do i decide who needs to eat moreso than someone else. Senority? Waist size? etc....

Back of the clock duties. As far as i know i thought for roster builds it was always 4 horrors you were limited to. Maybe it used to be 5. Not a big deal though.

Sick Leave. We have lost our 6 free URTI's without a med cert. Gotta give crewing 3hrs instead of 2hrs notice now.

28day roster - currently we have a monthly roster. Either 30 or 31 days.

Return to L/Haul option. What a load of crap. They wanted 50 s/h guys to transfer to l/h this month. They didnt even get 50 when there was well over 200 on the list. If anyone wanted to go back they would have gone.

CSM Promotion. Since when has promotion been part of the EBA? Simply they need more CSM's. SYD base have lost 19 CSM's in just under 12months. Some bid down to F/A, LHR base, Longhaul transfer. Why make it part of an EBA when is just a requirement to crew the aircraft and they can stop sending out flights without CSM's. They can also stop drafting on days off, drafting off the PER and DRW horrors to go and do 2 more legs etc.

I think the rest of the items on the list is fairly self explainitary. If not then let me know and i'll see if i can shed some light on it. I have to say that the whole EBA is abit of a non-event. Everyone, both us in S/H and you guys in L/H, were expecting some huge things. There is no talk about regional/international flying which is a big surprise. The crew meals will piss off some people, URTI's may upset some but overall i think it's a pretty soft EBA.

Unless.... there is more to come!
