Cartexchange, No raw nerve whatsoever.

What is annoying, is your complete lack of understanding. The FAAA is a full time organisation, every day decisions are made ranging from industrial decisions, staffing, financial and a whole range of other activities including many meetings per week with the Qantas, Australian Airlines, other unions and other organisations.

For the FAAA to function it requires its head people..... the Secretary and the Assistant Secretary to be working in a full time capacity.

MM continued to fly until his election as head of the FAAA in March 2004 and AS is also not flying because he answers all members calls im addition to handling some of the disciplinary actions against members.

All the other elected officials fly, and feedback is obtained on all issues from all officials and from the many members who contact the FAAA daily. You don't need the 2 senior officials to fly and bring the whole operations of the FAAA to a halt.

MM and AS and SR take the FAAA seriously, they put a platform to crew who voted them in in a landslide. These offficials have done exactly what they said they would do. They do not have side businesses like previous officials, who used the FAAA to further their own personal circumstances.

The working conditions of crew are far too important to have the head of the FAAA flying and not addressing the issues that he was elected to do.

Finally, cartexchange you should nominate for the next FAAA elections in 2008.... put forward your ideas and see how you go.

It is for no reason, that MM and the current officials have had no one stand against them. They are doing a great job. They are capable and they have integrity.

QFCSM.

I understand that you must be frustrated that the complexity of IR is beyond you and you can only find monosyllabic responses, but try to understand that sometimes saying no is just the populist response.

By saying no to everything that QF needed to sustain in the constantly changing and competetive environment would completely ensure that when the EBA expires, it would most definitely be the last.

For those of you that dont understand IR or have the benefit of years of study of it , please be aware that the new laws that howard is introducing are in some way much more like the US equivalent.

The only Unions in the USA that are relevant and able to achieve anything for their members are the ones that are able to deliver and deal.

it doesnt mean bending over and copping everything that management wants but tempering it against all other factors , external and internal

It’s good to see the FAAA fast response team is still in place but it is a pity that they only respond that well to criticism.

Pegasus tells us that MM has indeed spoken of his underlings from his throne and wants to have meetings regarding our future ,it is a pity though that we have to take Pegasus’s word as MM has not put out any newsletter to that fact.

“ FAAA spends considerable resources in terms of meetings and newsletters etc to inform the L/H membership about all the issues that confront us...unlike any other Qantas union.”

Guardian when was the last meeting you held apart from the JFK issue where you held a couple of them and when exactly are the next ones ???????? I’m talking of general meetings where more than 20 people can turn up not the ones at the rowers club for you guys to have a pims or a G&T.

Now, If someone has the temerity to criticize or suggest an alternative to the faaa and it’s strategy department ,you are being accused of being nonsensical, hysterical and suffering from substance abuse.

After reading your response guardian I’m not so sure that you are not hysterical.

Led on the issue of the JFK dispensation, to protect crew from being compulsorily made redundant.

You are now telling us that if we did not vote YES to the JFK dispensation that we would have been made compulsorily redundant. Now I don’t know what substance you guys in the office are partaking of but it is extremely heavy duty…

Guardian, you have said that no matter what efforts the faaa goes to inform it’s members people like myself never understand or get it…

Show me the newsletter from the faaa that tells us of the meetings to discuss any proposed or potential ideas to put forward to the company for our next EBA…or are we supposed to be telepathic and know that there is a copy in the union office just as there is a top secret copy of the fatigue report there as well.

As far as the JFK vote is concerned I had always thought that the idea was to safeguard Australian positions on that flight which by the way has not happened. The cost savings were never there as I pointed out before the vote, the cost of overtime etc...For the crew basically wiped out any savings made from not slipping in New York…

At no stage have I seen any newsletter or statement from the company regarding the move by cabin crew to help the profitability of QF by granting dispensation. We basically gave in to blackmail when we voted YES……thanks guys; you really had a winner on that one.

You also say that you have established a closer relationship with the S/H Faaa…does that mean that you are talking to each other now because as cartexchange has said the S/H EBA does not look like they are close to you guys at all…

My idea with my post is to suggest that we hold a series of meetings to discuss any ideas to be used at the next EBA negotiations. However, all we got in return was the same abuse and empty rhetoric from the same people all over again.

only you lowerlobe want to have meetings. so why dont you just go to the office of the FAAA and have a chat,
The majority of crew are not interested in meetings. We trust the guys in the FAAA will consult us when its necessary.

What you are really saying is lowerlobe, is that you want a platform to vent your spleen. Well you wont get it. no one is interested in you or your outdated views best left in the 70's

Get a grip and just keep taking the medicine or better still just leave and give all of us a break

Guardian...
Be very careful with statements that may be liable:
They do not have side businesses like previous officials, who used the FAAA to further their own personal circumstances.
Pegasus…
Please also be careful about things you have no knowledge.
You have no idea who I am and how much “study” I may have done in relation to industrial relations and union matters which includes many TUTA qualifications.
For those of you that don’t understand IR or have the benefit of years of study of it , please be aware that the new laws that howard is introducing are in some way much more like the US equivalent.
Responses from FAAA officials in this forum are nothing more than lip service.

Perhaps it might be timely to remind ourselves who the REAL enemy is.

Those who run this company. The ones who ultimately wish to see our conditions of employment DECIMATED.

speedbird you are right on the money there...

The real enemy is not even qantas management in my opinion, most of those shmucks have less job security than flight attendants...the real enemy is the conservative almost fascist like governments around the world that are driving work into sweat shops in asia

As a good mate of mine once said to me its all about plasma tv's. The new opiate of the masses

Yep, might be timely to look for the REAL enemy....

It used to be the nobs in QF mgmt,
but now I fear it the "enemy amongst us".

Keep your friend close, and your enemies closer!

I’ve never even met an FAAA official but I know you guys are doing a great job in difficult circumstances considering most cabin crew only care about where their next cappuccino comes from and what time their massage is, and also considering 2000 maintenance workers are about to loose their jobs.

Qfcsm I know who you are and you’re the laziest f**k I’ve ever flown with; sit their reading your newspapers the whole flight hoping the company will offer you a package. Do us all a favour and take a hike!

As for Lower Nob. He’s stuck in a 70’s time warp this bloke, still thinks ABBA is number 1 on the charts and KB is Australia’s favourite beer!! Stick to playing bingo and waiting for your meat tray number to come up at your local RSL, at least there the old geriatrics might actually listen to your dribble!

you are correct speed bird , I never once meant to imply that that anyone in The FAAA are the enemies, but they need to be kept on their toes and they need to be reminded that QF IR people are mongrels that are out to totally destroy any industrial muscle we may have.
The JFK dispensation was a debacle, it was game that they played with us, it was a test and we were made to look like fools, we gained nothing from the "yes " vote, they now mock us!
The are rubbing our noses in it by still leaving the AKL based crew on these patterns, and what is annoying is that the FAAA are trying to tell us that they have won some victory or that they are showing the company that we are willing to work with them, well its not working, they treat us with disdain
I want an answer to my original question, Why wont MM and AS do one trip, just one trip per roster, I'm sure the FAAA office could deal with that.
Not an easy trip either, a multi shuttle with inadequate crew rest, or something like an 8 day FRA.
MM leaves at the start of the roster, and AS at the end.
With all the modern communication we have in this day and age, I'm sure any major problems can be dealt with.

Devil APPALLING

It is appalling to see the depths of depraved language and slagging to which some peple will go.

Mr/Ms Moderator - is it possible to censor some of this rubbish before it goes on line? A few half-wits are making total fools of themselves and wasting the bandwidth of thinking people who frequent these pages. I am emabarrassed and ashamed to think that some of these morons and cretans might really be colleagues and fellow countrymen. .

Hey Bert,
It's just fun man. Somewhere where we can all let go.
You don't have to read it and you definitely don't have to comment.
Cheers.....

what is the obsession with flying???? there is not a secretary or assistant secretary of any union in this country that is still on the tools??????

They are doing a seconded role for the length of their term of office.. And they are available 7 days a week 24 hours a day and carry the emergency phone as well....

they dont do 23 hours a week like the rest of us either . Personally i would rather fly its easier than 3 hours in traffic a day dealing with assholes like us constantly whinging and moaning...worse than any passengers i have ever met come to think of it
