I have worked for emirates for a number of years, I have a friend in recruitment - they look for people that interact with all the members of the group, are polite - listen as well as voicing their opinion, grooming, grooming, grooming - again grooming, don't expect to get the job if you don't look like a flight attendant. Emirates passengers range from third world contract workers to famous VIP celebrities. Remember, it is an international airline - any hint of racism or ignorance regarding other countries or cultures is not tolerated at the interveiw or on the job - read up a little on Dubai to give yourself a little idea of where you will be based . Also, a little desperation goes a long way - the key word being a little - show them that you really truly want the job, tell them it is your dream job and why - and tell them you are thinking longterm...good luck

Lifeboat rescue

I would be interested in the official answer...or is it the start of a discussion.

I would save the young girl, as she has the best future ahead, then the heart surgeon, as he has the power to help NOW. As to third, its open season.
However why can you only take 3, is it because there is no weight penalty, then perhaps the slim model...or Dr John, because it is politically correct.

lastly Dubai is a building site, and will be for several years, take your hard hat...

Help, please..windy

Maybe they want you to go for the politically correct answer. Yes, the little girl and then you go for the Model or not?

Just say what you would really do

Interesting question, who would YOU save if you were in the unfortunate position of having to choose?

My own ideas:

1) The little girl. Obviously very intelligent, with good potential. We are here primarily for propagation of the species, so a child with excellent potential should always be utmost in our consideration. However, there are probably lots of little girls (and boys), who are just as gifted, BUT - we'd probably all save a child, wouldn't we?

2) Father Dan. We'll all get old, and when we do, we hope that we will be treated fairly, (and if we need it, looked after to a certain extent by the state). Father Dan is a young man, at 32, and may well be the catalyst for fair and equal treatment for the elderly - he could have a very important contribution to make for us all.

3) Dr John. I should imagine that he is involved with a team of specialists in this particular field - probably they all possess the same level of skill. But, the possible cure may well have originated from the doctor himself, and be in the process of being finalised by his team. Being 62, he would have years of knowledge, and may JUST, himself, hold the final key.

Leaving behind....

Ted, at 58, although a specialised heart surgeon, is, (unkind as it sounds), one of many throughout the world. At 58, it is questionable how longer he will continue as a front line surgeon. Although he would have a lot of knowledge to impart, as previously suggested, there are many more surgeons of this nature.

Elizabeth, 28, MAY be the red herring in this question, but on the surface, doesn't make any earth shattering contribution to society - she is an entertainer, and although we all enjoy being entertained, it isn't vital for survival and cultivation of our species. The political link is intrieguing, but would have to be overlooked.

It would obviously be good to be able to save all five, but sometimes we have to make choices, and those choices may themselves have to be explained at length after the event. The person in charge would not have the luxury of being able to analyse who he/she would take, so would have to be accountable for their actions afterwards.

Interesting scenario...

While at the interview, why not ask them if it's true that:

*Cabin Crew are punished for taking more than 5 or 6 sick days a year.

*Punished with ABSENT days and withholding of promotion out of economy class.

*CC are punished for taking a sick day before or after leave or on a public holiday

*CC have recently been enjoying cavity searches by customs after flights

*CC are called at home if they call in sick and marked absent if they don't answer the phone

*CC fly DUBAI - PERTH (11 hrs + ) and similar sectors with no rest allowed. Reported if they close their eyes or read a magazine while the pax are all asleep

*CC are off-loaded by pursers for having the wrong shade of lipstick on and marked absent

*CC are encouraged to report each other after flights for just about anything and rewarded for doing so

*There's an EK CC in jail in Dubai because she got pregnant and isn't married

*CC junior to you from certain countries get promoted straight to 1st class due to "cultural" reasons while you rot in economy for years

*CC are leaving by the 100s at the moment and many flights depart under-crewed. Crew strength has been revised down (on some flights) to "make up the shortfall"

*Those left are working like dogs. Back to back BOC flights with"shared" rest days suddenly common

*morale is at rock-bottom, thanks partially to a letter by the CC manager which shredded their dignity and encouraged seniors to off-load juniors for minor transgressions

*the entire multi-cultural issue causes many divisions within the 100+ nationalities

*Let's not mention the accomodation issues

Etc etc etc...

Well i would save the model, the heart surgeon and the little girl in that order. The model i can propogate the species with...alot...while waiting for the little girl to come of legal breeding age and trade in the now not so slim model for the younger breeding age girl. All for propogation of course. The surgeon would be on be my gp to keep an eye on me and then use his skills as a heart specialist to keep my heart from failing because of all the shagging i've been doing. The ex model could be kept active as a maid or something.

Do i get the job?

Pots and Black Kettles

SandIgger,

Folk get bored sh-1-tless enough with having to listen to you guys droning on about how hard done by you are over on the ME Forum, without having to put up with your rantings on other forums too.

If EK Cabin Crew wanted to start a thread about their hardships don't you think they would have started one up by now.....? Do them (and the rest of us) a favour - leave them in peace. They can speak for themselves...

There are no "official" or correct answers to those scenario's. They want to see how you work as a team to come to an agreed solution.

That's soooooo awesome!!!!!

No worries, I'm sure there'll be plenty more!!
Were you the only one who got to go 'home' 1st trip or did others get lucky too?

Gimme a shout next time you're heading over; if I'm working it's a matter of a 10 min drive to pop over to the Intl terminal & say g'day.....

(Bet you're loving having your own hat now eh??)

when u have those 2mins interview for submitting your resume..how do u present yourself?Any tips on this?Example,do u have to keep smiling all the time and maintain eye contact with the recruiters???

How about group interviews? Do u have to really pour out your opinions and do a lot of talking? i know its really important to listen and acknowledge the opinions of others in the group and not to interupt.

Be Careful

I just want to warn everyone to be very careful. An EK flight attendant was recently raped after leaving a nightclub in Dubai. This is a true story. I won't go into details because it's not fair on the girl involved, but please be careful and don't let your guard down just because you're in a foreign country.

SandIgger,

A few points on the ones you raised:

*Cabin Crew are punished for taking more than 5 or 6 sick days a year.
How exactly are they punished? There is an annual entitlement and all are able to avail of it. Perhaps they look into it if more than 5 or 6 days in a row?

*Punished with ABSENT days and withholding of promotion out of economy class.

*CC are punished for taking a sick day before or after leave or on a public holiday
This is a company policy regarding holidays unless you have proof you were really ill, such as a visit to the clinic. Too many people have taken the pi55 on this before.

*CC have recently been enjoying cavity searches by customs after flights
Perhaps a few crew members have stupidly warranted this. There was the issue a while back of the crew smugglink coke under the hats...

*CC are called at home if they call in sick and marked absent if they don't answer the phone
Why do you think they do this. Too many people taking the pi55 after a night on the tiles and not reporting in and then spend the day shopping. If you're really that ill you'd be at home.

*CC fly DUBAI - PERTH (11 hrs + ) and similar sectors with no rest allowed. Reported if they close their eyes or read a magazine while the pax are all asleep
I don't think so, where did you get this fact from?

*CC are off-loaded by pursers for having the wrong shade of lipstick on and marked absent
Possible but I would say in very rare instances. You have the grooming manual. Stick to it, surely can't be that difficult can it. If you can't even put on the right lipstick what you doing in the job in the 1st place?

*CC are encouraged to report each other after flights for just about anything and rewarded for doing so
As above pretty rare and one that is not good practice unless absolutely necessary.

*There's an EK CC in jail in Dubai because she got pregnant and isn't married
Know the laws before you go to work in a new country. It is illegal to have a baby in the UAE if you are unmarried. You have nobody to blame but yourself for being ignorant of the laws. This has nothing to do with EK.

*CC junior to you from certain countries get promoted straight to 1st class due to "cultural" reasons while you rot in economy for years
Unfortunatley I have to agree that this does happen and is prevelant across the group

*CC are leaving by the 100s at the moment and many flights depart under-crewed. Crew strength has been revised down (on some flights) to "make up the shortfall"
This is not good and a reason why you should be encouraging new people to join rather than pushing them away otherwise things will only get worse.

*Those left are working like dogs. Back to back BOC flights with"shared" rest days suddenly common
Can't comment

*morale is at rock-bottom, thanks partially to a letter by the CC manager which shredded their dignity and encouraged seniors to off-load juniors for minor transgressions
The letter was most inapropriate but having it airedin public will hopefully mean that things change.

*the entire multi-cultural issue causes many divisions within the 100+ nationalities
There will always be cultural issues when many cultures work together. How would resolve this, employ only from certain countries? This then makes your "cultural" promotions even worse.

*Let's not mention the accomodation issues
What's wrong with the accomodation? You get some the finest appartments in DXb, rent free, utilities free. Be grateful for somethings

reenita,

I guess just try to be yourself, as you say smile and be friendly (but not too friendly/smiley if that makes sense.) You don't want to come across fake (even if you are just nervous).

One thing though; the recruiter may sort of 'stare' at you; mine did and if you are not expecting her to, it may make you nervous. So be prepared!! I don't think they are trying to scare you or anything, I think just trying to see how you deal with people close up perhaps??

I know Craic did ok with hers (much better than me) perhaps she will have some advice for you... I know for me I was so weirded out by the staring thing I found it hard to think!!

Good luck!!

Desert Nomad, just wondering, re: the baby thing. Is it having the baby that's the problem (i.e. getting knocked up, staying in the UAE & having the kid) or is it the actually being pregnant that's the prob??

e.g. girl gets pregnant, quits her job & leaves, would she still get in trouble??? I guess perhaps you mean this applies to residents/citizens and not 'tourists"??? Interesting as have not heard that one before!!

SkySista,

I believe it for residents and at what stage they would arrest you it's hard to know. I know of somone, who had to leave recently because she was pregnant and needed to get out before he noticed as it would have been reported (this is nothing to do with EK).

I guess officialy here it is illegal to have sex with someone unless you are married to them. You could be reported and it has happened if you are found to be cohabiting. This is generally ignored unless you've done something to pi55 off an important local.

DM, thanks for the clarification!!! I figure as Dubai is very 'tourist oriented' it would be locals/residents only... though I suppose to openly 'flaunt' it is asking for trouble!! When in Rome, I guess.... =)

To all those who have contributed in a postive manner... Thank you.

To the EK Bashers..... Please shut up! This is not the Forum for that.

I have been to the Open Days twice, and haven't even gotten beyond 1st base. I think I was just too nervous and trying a little too hard. I think the theory of the recruiters looking for something in particular each time might be right.

I am a gay male. I am a little camp, but not over the top. Does anyone have any theories on if this being a negative?

Just waiting for the next one in SYD. Looks like it won't be until November at the earliest.
