Congrats everyone.

Dunno abt the 6 weeks to start thing. I'll be starting in about 5 weeks, and that's 10 months after I was confirmed.

Don't worry abt age limit as long as you look young; I'm 30 and never been an FA before.

I think it's about the best airline with the best community and look forward to seeing you all there.

Take care.

Good luck to all! Remember to listen more and acknowledge others more than you speak in the group sessions. I noticed many people just kept talking when nervous without regard to others in the room.

Like budgie73, I didn't get a start date until 7 months after I found out, and I don't start until 8 weeks time. Also, I travelled all the way to South America to get recruited and there were people in the session from Europe! Expect that to be a regular occurance now that everybody wants to work for EK!!

Keep us posted.

Red face

(Edited because I can't be bothered posting again, and for things left out. Add-ins are in italics!! )

Well guys, suffice to say I am not good enough for EK (or, that should be, I am too good for them lol)!!!

I got sent home after the first round (was in the first group too so I think they were harder on us - also some in the first group went and told the others exactly what the exercise was and which professions to choose - (it was the "other civilisation" thing - which I think gave them unfair advantage. Yes we have heard about that exercise on here but not who you should pick and why))

Seemed that all the bitchy girls and the ones who were bossy got chosen over everyone else in our 'huddle' for the group exercise.

One even blatantly took credit for an idea I came up with and told the recruiter to her face why this particular thing was chosen. How the hell she knew I don't know, since I came up with the name, but anyway. It didn't seem very fair as the recruiters didn't see the conversation of the group from start to finish - only parts. Some who never said anything only spoke when they were near by.

I may sound bitter but it just seems like a load of . One girl who sat with her feet on a chair, never said anything, and had the most sullen look on her face got chosen. I tried to engage her in conversation while we were waiting and she brushed me off (the recruiter saw this too,)

I'm sorry but if I have to become bossy and rude to get in with EK then they are not for me.

Though on the other hand there were some lovely people in the other groups who I hope make it the whole way.

So us "EK rejects" as we nicknamed ourselves went and had coffee and went shopping and each bought ourseleves something nice.

I didn't think I'd be that annoyed if I didn't make it to the next stage, but now I find that I am. I spoke with as many people as I could, tried to smile a lot, I even tanked one of the recruiters for holding the door open (even though I would normally do this in real life anyway (If I couldn't open the door myself that is!!)) At one point in the two-minute-lets-get-this-over-with CV question-time, Danni dropped my CV and I picked it up for her. So obviously they could see I try to help others, Danni sounded impressed with my job experience etc, so why? The only reason I can think of is that I am not good-looking enough for them!!!! Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest!!! Though there were some girls heaps prettier than me who also got booted. It's just annoying that out of 10 in our group, four of us got the boot and we weren't talking over everyone else!! (We were contributing though) Out of the 20 in Group one I think 11 got canned on the first elimination. There were 57 all up for this first of two days of Prelims.

I can only imagine how it was for those there who have been set on EK for some years.

I am just so annoyed they did not choose SydEK as she is lovely and speaks Arabic as well. (As well as April, Melissa and Suzanne who were totally lovely, glam and sooooo much nicer than the girl who frowned all the time!!!)

To be honest I think Amelita would have chosen a few more of us, but it seems perhaps Danni has some influence over the other recruiters???? This is my impression anyway.

I do hope and wish best of luck for the others who will not step all over other people to get their dream.

Do let us know if you hear from anyone who got in, or if you know how amny they end up taking, if any!

Regards,

Sky

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get through. I think group activies are a waste of time. I missed out on Jetstar and Virgin. Maybe Virgin were not looking for someone like me, but apparently they like people who wear singlets to interviews and like people whose mobiles go off during group activities.

Hello Guys

Etihad Airways is also coming to Aussie first week of March, but I think the interviews are by invitation only.

If you still havent seen it or applied, then you can log on to seek or career one and use the key word - cabin crew and apply for it.

You never know you may get lucky with Etihad ...

Cheers

hey everyone!

I've been following this forum for awhile.. I've actually gone through the emirates interviews and waiting for their reply now. my final interview was on the 26th Jan & apparently confirmation would only come in 6 weeks( from what i've read, seems like it's gonna be so much longer...). So there, I'm waiting....

Congrats to all who have gotten thru! I so wish to be in your position!

And do not dismay for those who didnt, go on trying! We'll all persevere!

Hi all,

Thanks for the PMs. I have ead them and will send replies when I get a little more time.

After a good night's sleep (better than after the initial interviews anyway) I feel much better.

Re-reading what I wrote, I do sound a little bitter. Let me re-iterate that most of my anger comes from the fact that so many wonderful girls other than me were passed over. Say what you will about "criteria", these girls were tops. They'll get snapped up by a better airline like *that*!!! (Although most of them dearly want to work for EK. In my opinion, EK don't deserve them and will probably work them into the ground from what I've heard.)

For myself I have a wonderful opportunity which I find out about on Wednesday (95% sure I'm going to get it, depending on checks etc). I will get to live in my home city, work with friendly people who were so welcoming and made me feel at ease, and lastly I can be myself. They were more interested in my customer service experience than how I sat or who I would take to a new civilization.

So again, congrats to those of you who deserved it and got through, better luck next time for those in my boat. Maybe I will see you all at the next Oz Open Day - maybe not.

Hope you Sydney gals got home okay, one of you was going to Mel, not sure if you're on here, hope you weren't in that chemical leak this morning????

Anyway best of luck people,

Catch you later,

Sky

Hey Guys, thanks to everyone who gave us their well wishes. As you all know i did not make it past the prelim interviews and while im very dissapointed i dont think its the end of the world. I would have liked to make it further but at least i made it to the prelims.

I am also dissapointed with how the whole thing went. Skysista has very valid points especially about Amilita being influenced by Danni. The people selected were those that were loud bossy, didnt give others a chance to speak and talked right over them!! One girl i think got in on looks alone as she hardly said a word during group discussion...

Skysista you will be surprised at this when i tell you who got in. There was one girl wearing a PINK top (not a shirt/blouse) just a casual one and pants...she got in . Another, and i really cant believe this, got in and guess what her answer was to "Why do you want to be a flight attendant?"____ "Because i want to travel" and apparently only for a year or so and the recruiters heard her say that! But one person you will be happy to hear got in is Angela, the one with the fancy hair coming out the back. Oh and by the end of the first day of prelims only 16/58 ppl made it through.

Anyway i will try again in 6months, it is something that i want but in the meantime i will be exploring my options. After going through that i really appreciate what those guys who got through to EK had to deal with and you guys are just great

I know of one person who flew back to Melb via Virgin and would have arrived early yesterday morning, Chris i hope your ok.

Cannard You said you were going to Perth for EK too. How did you go?

heads up ppl!!!

To all the ppl who spent loads of time, money and effort to go to the Ek ints in perth, get your heads up the selection process is hard and not entierly fair so dont beat your selves up over it. If joining Ek is what you really want then apply again in 6 months and dont give up.You guys have shown immense belief and character to go for the ints so dont start loosing faith now.
I hope the guys from JQ made it any idea???
cheers

Oh I am so glad ANgela made it!!! She was just so nice to me in the morning while we were waiting (and so individual too - in a good way!

When you say got "in", do you mean to finals??? I assume so as finals aren't finished until tomorrow.....

Oh yes, does anyone know if I and C from Jetstar got through???

I do remember the girl n the casual pants... they were like army green and she had a pink top on, right??? Maybe she has loads of CS experience....?

16/58 makes me feel a bit better... as I have said, I feel more sorry for you guys who have been trying for ages.

Oh, and do you have April's email??? I forgot to write it in my book and i lost the paper. PM me if you do!!!!

MoeZ77 Im not sure about the people from JQ but as for how many were there on the open day... bout 200, maybe more. They had to split us into 2 groups as we couldnt all fit in the one room.

Skysista I wish i had Aprils email, i just PM'ed you asking the same thing! Maybe one of the other girls has it. Yeah 'got in' as in to the final interview stage. And finals dont start till today, they still had another group of people coming in on monday for the prelims.

6 days sounds right they were expecting it to last till thursday. We had 2 recruiters but an extra (probably was from the melb office) who they said was there to assess the recruiters but more likely to keep watching us.

Yep, "Marie" was from the MEL office....

I'd say more than 250 actually. There were about 20 seats in each row, at least 8-10 rows..... so at least 200 in that first group. Not sure if the second lot filled the room though. I'd hazard a guess of 300-350??? (Considering last year there was more than one location)

(And she did watch us more than the recruiters - as if Danni needs watching anyway - I'm sure she does exactly what she likes!

I MADE IT!!!

i tried to look out for anyone here at the open day, but since i had no descriptions, it made it hard, though i looked for a girl in a beige suit, and there was only one, are you tall?

anyways

i was in the 2nd group of the 2nd day, i ended up befriending a group of locals, (dom, adrian and scott, thanks for everything!!) while waiting for the thing to start.

kept getting talked over in the first elimination, but adrian kept helping out (extremely crafty on his part, respek ye?)
but made it through, so many people got cut, it ended up just being 8 of us for the next round, 5 guys and 3 girls!!!!.

we had a 9th join us, jessica (i hope, its all a blur right now) she was supposed to go the day before but didnt. she was amazing in the eliminations and really deserved it.

then a really strange thing happened,

danni called us back in, to tell us that ALL 9 of us were through! then she bought in the first group and told us, because yesterdays group had taken up so many slots, there were only 8 interviews left (there was about 15 of us total) so we all had to discuss who needed/wanted to have their interviews now, and who wanted to wait till they came back (everyone was garuanteed an interview, they just werent sure when). it ended up being drawn from little bits of paper from danni's bag. and even though i argued against quite vocally, leila (hope i spelt that right) gave up her spot for me, cause i had to fly back to sydney (i felt terrible about doing this, but even danni, told me to do it!) .

so thats a sum of the 2nd day, in poorly constructed sentences and bad use of punctiation.

To all the people i had met over the 2 days, THANK YOU, everyone i talked to was ever so kind, and really do credit for perth. its a great place (a little on the quiet side though) so many beautiful people.

ive yet to figure out exactly what it was that they were looking for, as people who i thought were in for sure got cut, and hell, even i made it through somehow.

good luck to you all

C

Cannard, that's great, I'm really excited for you.

Jessica (the girl who was on the first day, and had to come on Monday for the second part because she was working) if she is the one I am thinking of, then I'm sorry to say she was one of the girls in my group who talked over other people (fair enough we all did but there were two or three who did it most) Still, she has been selected so obviously she is the kind of person they are after, good luck to her.

Can you tell me if Clare (from Skywest) got through??? Reeeeeeeeally pretty blonde girl, very nice & smiley, she has very light blonde hair worn in sort of a French roll/slight beehive combo (looks better than it sounds lol ) I really really hope she got through as she desrves it!!

And how about Paris the real estate property manager??? Did she make it?

The one I am particularly interested to know if she got in is Genevive (probably wearing lots of necklaces) I've forgotten their numbers, but they'd all be between 1 and 20 as they were in group 1 on Saturday.

sorry to be so nosy but I really am DYING to know!

Hey, congrats Cannard! Thats really good to hear. Actually i wasnt in a beige suit. I wore a dark grey one. If you were from the first group who went in on the open day, i was the one who asked about the test score average you need to keep while training. (For those who want to know its 80+ and if you fail you can resit but you need 100% to pass).

There were quite a few guys who showed up, what did you look like? When did you turn up during the open day? (and yes im assuming your a guy but if your not im really sorry).

So now your wait has begun, 6 weeks they said but im sure it will be longer. Be sure to let us know how things go and congrats again.
