sabredog 27th May 2012 18:33

olympus 27th May 2012 19:19

Sorry Sabredog, not 252/257 Sqn El Magrun but the right country.

sabredog 27th May 2012 19:58

Gambut , (LG-139)?

olympus 27th May 2012 20:01

Gambut is correct. Beaufighters of 'The Greatest Squadron of Them All'.

YHC again.

sabredog 27th May 2012 20:22

Thank you, Olympus.
603 Sqdn. indeed. Richard Hillary's old squadron during the Battle of Britain.
The next challenge should not last very long, and although not an airfield,it was at the time,a seaplane base.

Hi Terrence.

Did we collect the same Aircraft Information Files from the 90's mate?

sabredog 28th May 2012 06:50

I am afraid not,Graeme. I found the photograph whilst researching Desert Air Force Beaufighters for Olympus's challenge.
Well done.
YHC.

Noyade 28th May 2012 07:52

Well, it was still dumb blind luck on my part mate. I was flicking through some issues and found that photo a short while back.

Open house.

Cheers.

Castle Archdale and nearby RAF Killadeas,Ulster.

Blanket Stacker 28th May 2012 19:52

Only Castle Archdale; Killadeas was further away.

Lordflasheart 28th May 2012 20:53

RAF Castle Archdale is correct Sabre SiR. :ok:

On the east shore of Lough Erne, Northern Ireland. A famous Coastal Command RAF & RCAF Sunderland and Catalina base. Picture about 1944.

As BS observes, Killadeas is about 4 miles further south and was, I understand more of a flying boat OTU, with St Angelo airfield as the Coastal Command Instructors School a similar distance south of Killadeas. RAF Boa Island - a signals station at the top end of Lough Erne, completed the picture. LFH

Sabredog has control.

sabredog 28th May 2012 21:39

Many thanks,LFH. My poor editing of a photograph caption is to blame for confusing the issue! Especially remiss, as I know Lough Erne and the Fermanagh Lakes very well. Thank you, Blanket Stacker, for pointing it out.
