This is another stocking-filler that shouldn't last too long.

Er Eddie Stobart International aka Crosby and Open House.
(You naughty boy CGB, you got that photo from a certain other aviation forum.)

Correct Chevvy. Over to you.

India Four Two 11th Jun 2018 08:01

chevvron said Open House, so here's one I landed at last year to refuel. Unfortunately there were no prop-liners there!

Very flet - like Norfolk... but that covers a lot of territory in Canada and NC USA

A total punt

Edmonton? Not ECCA City Centre downtown as that closed in 2013....... doesn't look like CYEG International so maybe RCAF Edmonton??

dook 11th Jun 2018 12:01

Billings Logan International.

Heathrow Harry 11th Jun 2018 15:03

Looks right.......................

jensdad 11th Jun 2018 21:22

I've had a quick skeb at Billings on Google Maps and the tower looks slightly the wrong design and location in relation to the terminal? Could of course have been remodelled since then, so Dook may well be right. Failing that, I'm thinking one of the 'classic' refuelling airfields: St. John's, Newfoundland, for example?

India Four Two 11th Jun 2018 23:27

dook has it. Billings Logan KBIL, 3652' ASL. Sitting on a 500' escarpment immediately north of downtown Billings.

The second US airport I ever landed at, on my first trip to Houston. Calgary-Great Falls-Billings-Denver on a Western 737-200 and then Denver-San Antonio-Houston on a Texas International DC-9-10. It was a long day! By way of contrast, my second landing there was last year in an RV-6A, on my way down to Douglas, Wyoming, to see the total solar eclipse.

jensdad, a new tower was built and became operational in 2006. I presume the old one was demolished.

dook has the con.

dook 12th Jun 2018 10:44

Thank you I42.

Open house.

New England?

Don't turbojets look skinny by today's standards!

Heathrow Harry 13th Jun 2018 09:47

In one sense v close... in another - quite far away.............

I can remember the first time I was on a stretched DC-8 (KLM) - I thought it went on forever

dook 13th Jun 2018 10:26

A search for United Airlines DC-8 brings this image up.

It says it's Boston-Logan, but I'm not sure.

jensdad 13th Jun 2018 12:30

Could I gently suggest that we have a rethink on the 'rules of engagement' ? I'm not holding myself up as a paragon of virtue here but personally I prefer to use the clues provided by the picture and poster, as well as my own knowledge, rather than Google Maps or Images.
Admittedly, as I mentioned on the last challenge I did look at Billings on Google Maps, but out of interest after dook confidently suggested it. When I then took a punt on St John's, I hadn't looked it up on Google Maps or Images, but merely used the info provided by I42 that he had stopped to refuel there. No criticism of anyone is intended... just looking to keep the thread as enjoyable as possible.
Maybe if the challenge remains unsolved after say three days we could go to 'anything (including google) goes'? Just a suggestion; would be interested to hear what you ladies and gents think...

jensdad 13th Jun 2018 12:32

While I'm on, the airfield looks a bit like Oslo Fornebu, but I'm not sure if United ever flew DC-8s into there... (and I'm not sure how it would fit in with being 'in one sense, close to New England, but in another very far away'! )
