I realised that when HH went for Borneo, so thought I'd better be a bit more specific ;)

More thread drift.

I went with my family to Arras earlier this year on the 100th anniversary of my Great Uncle's death. Very sobering.

I helped lead a Local history Society tour to Ypres/Ieper and the Somme in September - as you say vey sobering indeed - makes you think........................

nvubu 12th Nov 2017 07:15

I don't have any other photos of this site that aren't already on the web. I do however have a map from 1972 - cue feverish searching on GE :ok:

I'm guessing Cheo Reo or Bao Loc, just from their locations on nvubu's map.

nvubu 12th Nov 2017 15:09

Yes, it's one of those :)

India Four Two 12th Nov 2017 15:18

Good guess, eh? ;)

I am familiar with most of the other airfields, as HH pointed out, but I had never heard of either of those and both would be in the appropriate hilly terrain.

I'm off to bed, so I'll leave the investigation to someone else.

nvubu 12th Nov 2017 15:33

You do realise that this map may make another appearance :)

Also maybe a Lima site in future as well

Investigated with the help of Google. I believe it's Cheo Reo. I42 has control as he did the hard work.

nvubu 12th Nov 2017 22:34

That's the one. You could sneak one in while he's asleep.

India Four Two 12th Nov 2017 23:46

Airclues,

Thanks but I don’t have anything available so it’s Open House.

nvubu 14th Nov 2017 21:16

OK, another one from me to keep the thread going

And an overhead - village and road network on the right haven't changed much. North is at about 4 o'clock

No strip fields remain though.

sycamore 15th Nov 2017 19:14

Probably France....?

nvubu 15th Nov 2017 20:01

Yes it's in France

India Four Two 16th Nov 2017 14:40

Northeast France?

nvubu 16th Nov 2017 18:18

Yes, but more east than north. Still very active.

nvubu 17th Nov 2017 12:15

Clue time: At the time of the photos it was Independant

jensdad 17th Nov 2017 18:18

I'm thinking Alsace was an independent state at one point... If so, it wouldn't be the current Strasbourg-Entzheim Airport would it??

nvubu 17th Nov 2017 19:07

My bad phrasing again :)

Not a state, but what was based there was Independent.

Currently very active military base.

Not too far from Strasburg.

Do the French really build their airfields so blurred or is it just my netbook screen?
