A Lockheed Electra, in South America?
Apart from that, I have no idea - & even that is likely to be wrong !

India Four Two 10th Sep 2017 22:42

75% - must try harder!

Lockheed - tick.
Electra - tick.
America - tick.
South - wrong. ;)

The Electra is Air Spray Tanker 482. Air Spray are based at Chico, California but that doesn't look like that area. How about Alaska?

India Four Two 11th Sep 2017 00:56

Not Alaska.

Yes, Airspray is based in Chico but also somewhere else. Look it up. ;)

WIDN62 11th Sep 2017 01:07

Red Deer, Alberta is their other base, but again it's not that. Somewhere near there?

India Four Two 11th Sep 2017 01:09

Near is a relative term, but this location is certainly closer to Red Deer than Alaska is.

Clue number 3.

This photo was taken during a flood. The water level is not normally this high.

Nobody else seems to be up for this challenge, so may I ask for some more clarification?
North America seems pretty certain.....?
Western side of the continent and therefore the Rocky Mountains.....?
If the Rockies, it looks more like the Eastern side of them because they get close to the Ocean on the west and there can't be many rivers like that.
You pointed me towards the other base for AirSpray, so does that make it Canada?

India Four Two 11th Sep 2017 23:12

WIDN62,

Yes, it’s Canada and it’s a river, although to be fair, in the last picture, you are looking at a lake on the river.

BTW, the mountains are not “The Rockies”, although I know that term is used generically in Western North America.

Kewbick 12th Sep 2017 16:39

Revelstoke, B.C. (CYRV).

India Four Two 12th Sep 2017 16:56

Well done kewbick.

I’m surprised it lasted so long.

The mountains behind the Electra, to the west, are part of the Monashee Mountains and the ones in the last picture are the Selkirk Mountains to the east of Revelstoke. The river is the Columbia which at this point is flowing into Upper Arrow Lake.

kewbick has control.

I now know why it looked vaguely familiar. We had an awful night there a couple of years ago. The hotel put us in a room at the back to be away from the traffic - unfortunately it faced the railroad and we spent the night listening to the squeal of metal as the freight trains trundled through!

India Four Two 12th Sep 2017 23:36

I know the feeling! I live 100 m from a fairly busy railway line near Calgary, with three level-crossings nearby. If I’ve been away, I wake up several times a night to the sound of locomotive horns approaching the crossings.

It takes about a week before I can sleep through the noise!
