On the contrary, I think Harry was saying that the buildings at Blackbushe are at the eastern end, whilst at Newcastle they are to the west. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you're right.

Jensdad is correct - thought he would get it!!!

There's a b***** great hangar with "Newcastle Airport" on it cropped off the left hand side - the road is the main Scotland - Newcastle road - now a dual carriagway

B737 is also correct - I was talking about the 'Bushe - which also has a main road alongside but the facilities are the other way round cp Woolsington................

jensdad 21st Aug 2017 20:52

Nice to see Woolsington Aerodrome getting an outing on these esteemed pages! The old terminal (the building on the right) spent a lot of time as the Newcastle upon Tyne Aero Club and is still standing, as is the hangar next door. Both are now part of the technical area on the south side of the runway, opposite the 'New' - well...1966 - terminal.
I have nothing handy so will have to declare Open Hoose.

Correction: Just noticed, the old terminal / aero club isn't there any more. Very sad, a nice old art deco style building it was :( The old aero club hangar is still there though.

Well since OH has been declared by jensdad, I offer these. Stunning arcitecture + artwork in a small terminal building.

I feel I must offer an initial clue as starter: It's in the USA. The ceiling fans out of shot are all old props. Shouldnt take too long!

Larsen Aviation is visible on one of the photos, so Dalhart in Texas?

Russell Gulch 22nd Aug 2017 23:08

Isaid it wouldn't last long!

Quite an interesting history: A public-owned airport but a private individual paid a lot of money for an exquisite building to act as the FBO.

You have control

Sorry about the poor quality of this photo. The road on the left is actually on top of a berm. The location of an E-W runway can be seen, which was removed as it was short and close to the berm, as I found out when I landed there thirty some years ago!

jensdad 23rd Aug 2017 22:48

The surrounding landscape looks like it should be in the Netherlands or Belgium, or maybe Northwest Germany. But I haven't got the foggiest idea which aerodrome it is!

Heathrow Harry 24th Aug 2017 08:25

yes - but it might be somewhere like Florida or the Gulf Coast ... probably First World as no-one else has the sort of money to build that sort of sea defences. Also near a large stretch of open water

No reefs visible, no palm trees............... E Europe unlikely to have what looks like a small, neat & tidy GA airfield

no big beach or big coastal development so maybe not the Med............

Harry Wayfarers 24th Aug 2017 11:17

The fields seem very lush and green as if well watered by the climate whilst the coast road seems very straight as if militarised ... Perhaps up the Baltic coast of Europe someplace1

Heathrow Harry 24th Aug 2017 13:02

Fields look like Netherlands Denmark or Germany but I'm damned if I can see a suitable airfield on GE

Harry Wayfarers 24th Aug 2017 17:42

If the OP landed there 30 years ago that would have still been in the USSR era so I guess can rule out any of the USSR countries

creweite 24th Aug 2017 19:47

There was a hurricane her in 1927 that caused a lot of deaths due to flooding, so the berm was constructed in the 30's. That should help locate the field. And no, not WW1

Kewbick 24th Aug 2017 19:50

Palm Beach County Glades Airport, a.k.a. Pahokee Airport, KPHK, Florida.

washoutt 25th Aug 2017 07:51

Interesting. When looking at the Pahokee area on GE, it seems as if the whole southeast part is a large polder, complete with surrounding discharge canals.

Heathrow Harry 25th Aug 2017 07:56

"but it might be somewhere like Florida or the Gulf Coast"

so close, so close!!!

creweite 25th Aug 2017 14:50

Kewbick has it!

Not a polder yet, but with rising sea levels it may soon be! My home base of North Perry is 8 feet above MSL and my home is 7 feet above MSL Pahokee is higher at 16 feet. But this used to be the Everglades until the Army Core of Engineers drained the swamp!

That was enjoyable. Here is the next challenge:
