Thanks Nvubu,
I am not to far into the WW1 airfields but the aerials were quite distinctive.
You were right to put the other photos first.
What is the first photo supposed to camouflage?

Now this one
Sadly only a Google overhead to show but got the remainder completely within the name of the game:

Yes distinctive and still recognisable today. The photo doesn't have a title, just a number as it's description, but I think that they are the gun butts for testing the machine guns.

I'd hazard a guess that your challenge is a fly in community in the USA?

Thanks a gun butt makes sense.

Fly in community; perhaps
private: certainly
USA: no, it is east of London

Below the only other photo on the net found under same location reference:

Phew - I don't have to go through this site Fly-In Communities accross the United States and Canada (bifold.com) :)

No more guesses from me for a while though

Indeed not UK
A long way from the UK but not so far from East of London.

Asturias56 5th Apr 2021 14:48

Sounding like a politician Bear - ... east of London ?? or East London in South Africa? there are a few fly-in communities around that part of the world

The nearest name on Google Earth is Kwelega. NE of East London.
I'd spent a few hours scouring the area NE of London Ontario.
OH if correct.

Asturias56 5th Apr 2021 15:09

think i got in by 60 seconds...................... :E

Self loading bear 5th Apr 2021 15:50

Already thought East of London would give it away.

It is in the name of the game to give each challenge a name.

You both (or others) have 5 hours left.

Self loading bear 5th Apr 2021 21:19

The name of the strip that Asturias found correctly,
Can be found in Google earth/ maps when you zoom in to about East London area and search for “airstrip”

I was hinting on Whats landing.

Next episode of Which Aerodrome is for Asturias to fill.

Asturias56 6th Apr 2021 08:03

Let's see - a change of location I think - the scenery is nice but not a major tourist location.....................

18 hours and nobody's had a shot yet! I'll kick off with a guess at the mountain range at least... Is this somewhere in the Caucasus?

Asturias56 7th Apr 2021 07:03

These days things aren't as frantic as a couple of years back JD. It is a mountain range but it's not the Caucasus quite a ways from there. A couple of scheduled internal flights a day but quite a few private/charter movements

North Africa ?

Asturias56 7th Apr 2021 14:37

No not in Africa.

The place has I'm sure produced many famous sons & daughters but there's only one who might be recognised on here - and not by name but by the tune wot he wrote (and that's probably only an older subset of PPrune)

Self loading bear 7th Apr 2021 21:13

Spanish language
perhaps Maya culture?
Central America?

Asturias56 8th Apr 2021 07:14

Spanish is one of the languages spoken here Bear although they do also speak a local language

It isn't Mayan nor in C America. Unfortunately, due to local history, it doesn't really attract many people who don't have to go there

The song referred to above is over 100 years old and has, more recently, a (very tenuous link) to a UK railway station via the USA
