Mr_Grubby is correct. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (CYTV) aka Toronto Island. Connected to the mainland by the world's shortest ferry service. During the early days of World War II, a corner of the airport was known as Little Norway, due to the hundreds of RNA pilots undergoing basic flying training. Presently home base for Porter Airlines, flying scheduled Dash-8 Q-400s. You have control.

Little Norway
evansb, I don't know why I didn't recognize the field - I've got lots of pix of it, but not the one you posted. My Dad was trained in Little Norway and ended up flying Short Sunderland flying boats in RAF Coastal Command. I remember all his wonderful tales of Canada (and wouldn't be surprised if I might have siblings there) .
Here's another pix from those days with RNAF Fairchild Cornells. Recognize the hangar?
Cheers,
Tom

Oh, yes. The hangar is still in use to this day! Porter Airlines now has 20 Q400's in service, serving 17 destinations from the 4000' runway at CYTZ, now renamed "Toronto Billy Bishop Airport" after the WW1 ace and Victoria Cross recipient. Porter will pass the 2 million passenger mark this year!
S'cuse the thread creep - back to business.

Is it in New Mexico, perchance?
Albuquerque, Double Eagle II airport.

I'm sure I read in 'Hot Rod' magazine (Bakersfield being latterly a dragstrip) that it was a'square mile' of tarmac; moving up the coast, how about Vandenburgh AFB?
