C and Chevron.
There are 69 listed airports in PNG.
I spent 5 years there in the 70's and should recognise the name Lakunia - but I don't.
C. Do you have another name for Lakunia ?

Yes C - it is old Rabaul - where did you get Lakunia from ?
The photo is from the 70's - long before the destruction caused by the 1994 volcano- see full picture with 'Vulcan' at top. I cropped it thinking the volcano was a give away.
So, over to you.

Thanks Des.

Lakunia was the local name for the airfield. For most of the war it was under Japanese occupation, housing fighters and bomber squadrons. Quite a thorn in the side of the U.S. forces side.

Try this one,

Here's a long shot; it vaguely reminds me of some strips I flew to on the East side of the Baja California peninsula, many years ago......

Brian.

Correct sir.

Mpumalanga lies in eastern South Africa, north of KwaZulu-Natal and bordering Swaziland and Mozambique. It constitutes 6.5% of South Africa's land area.

You have control.

Correct. Berlin-Schonefeld, EDDB, was once the major international airport serving East Germany (GDR). In 2011, the airport will be transformed into Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport. You have control.

Just going back to my last pictutre of Numbi.

Look at the wind sock to the left. Is the aircraft not landing downwind ?

Looks like a fair amount of wind too.

Just a thought,

Clint.

Due to a hill on the south side, Numbi it is considered a one-way in, one-way out airstrip for higher performance aircraft like a Mooney, Bonanza or even a Vans RV.
