Good morning RR.

Not much time to play today, but did not most American stuff of that era use radials?

LM, in this instance you do indeed. I say "in this instance" only because models of this aircraft were also built with different engines.

Not a Kinner, although I believe the manufacturer used Kinner engines in some of their other products.

Now found it and it says it's a Stearman, which is very difficult to believe.

Just another thought - was it ever used for mail delivery?

You may have found it, but there again.....

One of the engines used was a Wright Whirlwind.

Believe it, it is a Stearman....but which model?

And as far as I can see it was never used for mail....at least one of them was used for film work.

It IS the C1!!!!!!!!

The First Stearman, the C-1, serial number 101 was completed at Venice, California in 1927. Originally powered with a 90 HP WWI surplus Curtiss OX-5, the C1 carried two passengers side-by-side in the front cockpit. The OX was replaced with a 240 hp war-surplus French Salmson water-cooled radial engine and received registration number 4100. This was soon replaced by a Menasco air-cooled radial and the aircraft was re-registered as a C3-741.
