Good morning all

I've had a private email from Lightning Mate...it seems he has problems accessing the forum at present, but has confirmed my identification of the challenge aircraft.

A little unorthodox I know, but here we go with the next one:

OK. In that case I'm going to be searching around Europe. Would I be warm? Various machines lke this spring to mind such as the Azor, the Swedish SAAB airliner (can't remember the name) and I think the Jugoslavs built something similar.... RR

OK. As I see it we have:
- twin radial-engined (look like US motors)
- small transport, possibly a commuter type?
- Civilian based on the landing gear
- not European
- not related to the A-26

The shape and "style" of the machine leads me to think South American (Argentine?) or possibly another continent, China? Howver, I'm not certain that the Chinese had engines of this type available.

There is a hatch on the upper nose. What is that for? Any idea? Would it help as a clue?

RR

Hi RR....its not Japanese, Chinese or South American

In response to your 1117 post:

- Civilian based on the landing gear
- not European
- not related to the A-26
You score 3 1/2 out of 5!
(the half being the small transport, possibly commuter)

I'll see if I can find out anything about the hatch......

Small transport was only part of its role.

Oh really? Whatelse could it be used for? i don't see hardpoints! If it was viewed from underneath would I see a bomb bay?

what are the exhaust looking things on the sides of the nacelles? Exhausts?

Ok, so in addition to being a small transport it was also a helicopter? That's about how close I am right now!

No hardpoints or bomb bay rules out bomber/attack/patrol/ASW. So, what else? Nav trainer? I am puzzled whether the fact that the cockpit sits atop the fuselage is for a reason related to the interior need of the fuselage. Maybe its nothing.

I'm guessing that the lumps are P&Ws? Wasps?

How about being a glider tug? It would explain those powerful engines on such a small machine?
