No care.

No compassion.

Staff that seem almost hostile to the patrons that support their employment.

If this is your attitude you have no business being in a service industry. You might also need professional help.

If one of my staff treated anyone like that, let alone someone with a disability travelling with a child, they'd receive a formal warning and remedial training - and if it happened again they'd be fired.[/QUOTE]

The problem I suspect with your assertion is that retraining would result in the exact same result.

Billionaire entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson has built his global business empire on his unique principles and ethics. While the common adage, “The customer is always right,” is important, Sir Richard also follows his own beliefs. He is quoted as saying, “Clients do not come first. Employees come first. If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.”
Clients do not come first

Perhaps the problem is not with the employees per se. Just saying.

It’s transport safety, not a service issue

I think they (cabin crew) might be testing the waters before take off, and if they suspect any passenger is not going to obey their orders, or become hostile and argumentative during the flight or in an emergency, it’s an opportunity to remove them before take off. Cabin crews number 1 responsibility is passenger safety, not service. If crew just let everyone start swapping seats and fail to follow procedures, as they’re been trained to, then crew are not doing their job.
allowing passengers like that on board could put other people’s lives in danger and that is an issue.

Not following safety procedures could result in termination of her employment.
She might also be burnt-out, but I tend to agree with the majority of comments in that he should just follow damn rules like everyone else has to.

For those who blame the CSM have you considered the following?
1. What if 15 pax want you swap seats is that okay? How many is okay? 1? 3? 12?
2. What level Of non compliance from pax is acceptable?
3. When the aircraft is delayed and a report is required from the CSM , Is Jetstar going to support her decision to provide good customer service instead of following the ops manual?
3. Was she ever provided any sort of customer service training?
4. The fact she works for one of the worst companies in Australia in terms of care, respect and support for it's staff? What is the likely hood of being on the wrong side of Jetstar's punitive culture? I'd say its very high.
5. Many of Jetstar's regular "clientele" can be difficult, misbehaving and feral. Maybe she just reached her limit?

I think this incident is just a result of a poor customer service at the airport mixed with a frustrated and tierd crew, sick of feral pax and continually being beaten down by a horrible management and punitive culture resulting in a zero care factor. Mix that with a couple of keen AFPs with their fingers on the trigger and you get this incident.
If one of my crew are having a problem with a pax I'm not going into the cabin to show them my superiority. I'll listen and if they feel they can't get the passenger to be compliment or they are uncomfortable then the pax is getting off. End of discussion. I trust my crew. Exactly the same as they trust me to do my job.
Jet star treating you like **** is not a reason for ignoring my crews instructions. After all the only people JQ treat worse than their pax is their employees! We all know how ****** jetstar is. It's not an excuse to be a prick.
The guy who asked to change seats is why she insisted he move back to his seat. You perfectly summarised this incident. Sudanese culture is well known for disrespecting women with authority and I think THAT is the real reason one man was tasered and the other was not.

Swearing at cabin crew (or anyone) is considered verbal assault and is a criminal offence in Victoria.

It’s a fact pax who don’t comply with instructions from crew put other pax lives in danger in an emergency evacuation. If he refuses to follow her instructions in a calm situation, I imaging he will be even less inclined, in a smoke filled cabin during an emergency.

you have no clue about African culture, I do.
From your lifetime living in Africa amongst millions of them, or from a couple of guys who home invaded you and crap you read in the tabloids? Not quite the same thing. Not sure the latter reflects African culture. I think your obvious attitude and beliefs reflect far worse on this country.
his attitude is a culture that lacks respect for women in positions of power or authority
He stood his ground with the pilot, and the police, all males in positions of power and authority. Not sure your argument holds water there. I think he was a disgruntled passenger fed up with dealing with a moron, irrespective of the gender.

Which guy who asked to change seats? The other guy said he had no problems with the change. I don't think he was asking to be able to return to the other seat. If it was mutual, why didn't she let it go ahead and just get on with the boarding?
If he refuses to follow her instructions in a calm situation, I imaging he will be even less inclined, in a smoke filled cabin during an emergency.
That's a long bow. No one knows how anyone will behave in that situation. The guy could just as well be the hero who saves some people. I imagine all those pax who retrieve and carry their cabin baggage down the slides in the many videos of real life evacuations, despite being told during the brief and more than likely during the evacuation explicitly not to were all rule abiding pax at the time of boarding too.

I just read about Canada airline charging $10-100 more to be seated next to family.
Except the law in Canada says they can't, depending on the age of the kids.
Is that phantom Canadian airline any worse than this:
  • We do our best to seat families together when we allocate seating and we’ll make sure that young children are seated with a parent or guardian, but we can’t guarantee you’ll be all together. That’s why it’s best to select your seats when you book your flights.
  • You can select and purchase seats for your family when you book.
Note the word "Purchase"

(The above is from JQ by the way)

its you who has no idea, if you researched anything on African culture you’d know it’s a well known fact and issue with African culture, men lack respect for women, and youre argument for him standing his ground over a seat is weak, he should have paid to sit with his family, like everyone else has to, but he didn’t, so bad luck. Sit where you’re told. You can’t just decide to go sit in first class, and stand your ground? Please
FYI, my comment is based on first hand experiences of dealing with violence perpetrated by African migrants, male and female, most are feral.
There were numerous victims of assault - shop keepers and residents and I was one of them. Do you see any other migrant gangs committing “smash n grabs” in the CBD and members of the community being terrorised by them (i lived in north Melbourne for 5 years) i have had to put up with this same attitude from African’s who think they can do whatever they want. I have the utmost respect for my law abiding African brothers, eg, taxi drivers, my postie, my property manager, but I’m sick to death of women being verbally abused and threatened in the workplace, or one’s home.

I think the whole Underbelly story was inhabited by non-African people. Domestic violence victims are usually white woman and their children. The most problems I have with passengers tend to be smart arse white people particularly on their way to or from Bali. Headcounts are no longer required on Jetstar aircraft so the whole incident really is a storm in a teacup.

he should have paid to sit with his family,
If you would put away your bigotry for a second, and actually read about (or at least read the 17 pages of this thread) the incident, you would find he did. JQ then moved the family to another flight and he was sat apart from them. He was trying to get back together with them, through a mutual swap with another passenger, until the seat gestapo descended on him. According to a witness, the situation was pretty calm until the FA escalated it by insisting he move. Note she did not berate both the white and black passengers, only the black one. The white passenger, who had also committed the cardinal sin of swapping seats and endangering the entire flight, was not even involved. He was not confronted and was not issued a demand that he return to his seat.

I'm pretty sure this guy didn't verbally abuse or threaten anyone until it had gotten completely out of hand (I don't know if he did then either, and by then he was dealing with other men). He just stood his ground and refused to move. Would your attitude have been different if it had been a male FA? I think not Pauline.

Yeh, police taser and arrest peaceful people minding their own business all the time.

You asked earlier in the thread for "an example of where JQ provide notice to any passengers of the requirement to sit in the seat noted on their Boarding Pass."

I provided it. Rather odd that you entirely ignored my post eh?

Man Tasered on Jetstar flight fined

drinking in the terminal and had jumped two separate queues to board the aircraft”

”Malou's wife at the time wanted to move away from her husband as they were having an argument”

But it’s all Jetstar’s fault according to some on here? It appears the courts disagree with that assertion.

It’s like the person who murders the family but rocks up on the local news the next morning in tears, pleading for the bad guy to be caught.

Watch the video interview he conducted with all the press again. Then read the court notes.

Life Ban please.

NO EXCUSES, Jetstar should have accommodated this man.
I don't care if they are worried about weight and balance, there is NO EXCUSE for separating a father from a new born.
All the dumb arse crew had to do to make it work was a seat swap with another passenger, or be fair and reasonable and re-calculate the W&B.
BUT NO ...... Jetstar megalomaniac crew in their complete lack of experience and professionalism and humanity, decided to call in the dogs and destroy this family with tasers.
PATHETIC JETSTAR. NO EXCUSES.

Well, this hasn’t aged well arkmark.

https://www.watoday.com.au/national/...20-p5dpz8.html

The woman asked airline staff if she and her child could change seats to no longer be sitting with the musician, known as Rockstar Bo La, which was granted. When Malou realised his family had changed seats, he moved and sat with them and refused to get back up.

Three AFP officers were called in to help move the man, who authorities believed was drunk.

During attempts to physically lift him, Malou tried to place one of the officers in a headlock and take his Taser.

He was eventually Tasered three times by police, arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing a Commonwealth public official.
Looking forward to the retraction and apology to not so pathetic Jetstar.

All those who supported this guy could now crowdfund his fine and bus or train fare back to his family.

Well...
If there’s been a swapping of seats by agreement between passengers, there’s no W&B risk and we know that being in the allocated seat for post-accident identification purposes is a furphy.
Anyone denying that?

All I can say is that if the only basis upon which the police intervened was old mate
s failure to comply with a safety direction under CASR 91.575 or …
The word "if" is a small but important one.

I answered that what I would do would depend on the safety implications of the circumstances
It always depends.

The PIC and operator have power/authority to remove - with such assistance and by the use of such force as is reasonable and necessary - a person before the flight begins, even if the person has not contravened CASR 91.220(3). So on the face of CASR.220, old mate does not have to been directed by anyone to do anything and the PIC and operator still have power/authority to remove him – with assistance and by the use of reasonable force if necessary -
provided the operator or PIC believes it is necessary for the safety of the aircraft, a person on the aircraft, or a person or property on the ground or water.
The word "provided" is another word for "if".

I said, earlier, that for all I know old mate was removed on the basis of trespass, consent to him being on the aircraft having been revoked as a consequence of behaviour that crew reasonably considered unacceptable. That’s not the same as him being removed on the basis that he committed a criminal offence as soon as he failed to comply with any CC direction.
Looks like that's what happened.

It may turn out that old mate was lawfully tasered for resisting arrest after being lawfully arrested.
Yep.

If I’m reading this right, the Jetstar staff were trying to protect the woman as they probably perceived a threat to her? The way they did that was by asking the man to take his assigned seat away from her. Things clearly escalated and the AFP were sought.

Hats off to the Jetstar CC in this scenario if that is true. They tried to protect a woman but were hung out to dry by the media, and some on here.

I always had a feeling something was awry here as I’ve seen CC, on all airlines, go to some lengths to ensure families can be seated together. Glad the truth has come out to put this sorry saga to rest.

So why didn't JQ come out and say something to that effect straight away? They copped a flogging in the media, yet held a handful of get out of jail cards. And now he "appeared drunk" to authorities too. Funny that was never mentioned at the time either. Witnesses said "At no stage was he being verbally or physically aggressive towards anyone". And the wife and child, who JQ were trying to protect, were kicked off too? Sounds fishy to me.
