From the other side of the fence. It's not so long ago Mr O Leary was spouting on that I worked only 900 hours a year, which is something like two and a half days a week. Had the equivalent of a bank holiday weekend every weekend and spent the rest of my days off sailing around Dublin Bay in my yaught. The man appears to have a license to say what he wants. It takes a very stong interviewer to see through him. Something thats lacking in the Irish media bar a small minority. Expect plenty more of this in the coming days. It's all for corporate gain. He dosen't give a toss about his passengers.

I second that BAW676, let's not go down that road, we have the high moral ground and ill advised comments can hurt us even if intended as a joke.

Danger Whineair

Can no-one else here see the obvious.
Since FR have decided to "Support" the IAA in their struggle against the tyranny and injustice of the evil worker/ union alliance there hasn't been a peep out of LC !!!

MOL IS THE NEW IAA CORP. COMMS. MANAGER.

That's it, we're doomed.
I'm going in to do an "N" duty on overtime (for €1200 of course)

I give the same high standard of an ATC service to each and every airline bar none i have no favourites or enemies even the ones that snarl at me on my Freq's. Same turns, same directs, same levels changes and same speeds.

Again i have to commend my collegues throughout all the centres you have all been great now in our hardest times lets keep together and push for a truely amicable resolution to this situation.

Regards BAW676

Thumbs up

Well said BAW676

We all provide an excellent ATC service regardless of the customer or the circumstances.
There is no harm in venting a little steam however, as long as no one is seriously suggesting reprisals or giving ammunition to the unscrupulous!

Stay tough and united everybody, we've to get through Monday and after that well...... I've got me placard painted and a 50 gallon drum ready to go!

Just spent the last 2 hours reading back over the messages from everyone....
Its great to see the support that we get from people inside and outside the ATC units. Besides the odd, wierd and obviously deranged comments from certain individuals that are not connected in any way to ATC... ie DFC, at least I hope he isn't connected, because if he is, he hasn't been paying the slightest attention to whats been going on around him for the last few years... but besides that ****... people really have their fingers on the pulse, great to see guys, ye are great to work with !

Ocean....

Many thanks for your support. The stoppage will only involve ATCO's,so our colleagues manning the HF mikes will not be involved.Incidentally oceanic traffic will presumably re-route around Irish airspace, just may take the westbounds longer to reach the ocean and the eastbounds longer to reach landfall.

Same old same old - MUFC and MOL

So two no surprise stories from yesterday - Man U grab a goal in the last five minutes - and MOL issues another rant that would make the editor of 'Der Angriff' blush!

Ignore it lads and ladies - he won't go away but there is no better way to tell an inveterate attention seeker to Foxtrot Oscar.

But to matters at hand - not sure about the use of the all out stoppage at this stage - don't take the driver out of the bag if you only need a nine iron to hit the green. Poor old Rineanna - it needs a stopage as badly as Bertie needs to be caught in Fagan's with Owen O'Callaghan buying the Bass!

(PS anybody else see the similarities in the the management styles of Sir Alex and Herr Mick!).

Ryanair on our side?

O'Leary on the radio this morning, both Newstalk and RTE1 at seemingly the same time -the man truely is a GOD!

A very stressed GOD.

Trainee god Peter Sherrard musn't be up to it anymore.

Also a very stressed god.

Making up even more 'facts' - apparently we were on strike 4 years ago?!

Ah come on now Michael, I know you're entertaining but I used to think you made some sense. It really is just all hot air. Scares people into submission like it usually does with the IAA.

Mick sees this as battle against the evil unions who hold his chums in the IAA to ransom for loads' a money. He 'fully supports the IAA'.

Well Michael, everytime Ryanair open your mouth about this you ensure that none of us will ever do any overtime ever again. I think my rate is about €10,000 a day now and rising.

And Mick as you said yourself, that Michael Landers is 'a very clever' man. He came across very well I thought. Mick, as in O'Leary, you really need to calm down. You must be working too hard!

-----

macker - thats brilliant! We could use our headsets I suppose and strip holders if ye all in Shannon would donate them!

IRLATCO - great stuff. Its good to laugh

Interesting, no comments since the interviews on radio this morning. As a non-combatant without blinkers, I think Landers should be taken out around a corner and shot for managing to make MOL sound reasonable. In the words of the immortal Davy Fitzgerald, "one minute you're a hero, and the next you're a bollocks".

One has to admit that the ATCO's did leave themselveds open to accusations of Blue Flu. After all, most of the closures were because someone went sick and by co-incidence, no one would do any extra overtime.

I know that 1 person going sick should not require a call-in. However, if the areas that are currently over-staffed were re-oganised and multi-ratings were required by all ATCO's then the ability to cope with staff sickness would be improved.

The IAA (and Ryanair) are wrong to say that there is no shortage. It is the case. However the shortage is not so bad as to require closures of more than 1 hour in any shift or at worst a 30 minute closure every 2 hours.

I have said from the start that this will be seen as a cash grab and that is how it is panning out.

Even the joke site posted by IRLATCO above says it is;

Do you want to take the chance of having that bloke, pissed off because he’s not getting overtime, ensuring your flight doesn’t have a near-hit
As for the comment about closing down the Atlantic if the Aer Radio guys go out in support?..........Don't think so.

Prestwick OACC who control the Atlantic Oceanic Airspace adjacent to Ireland have contingency measures in place. With Shannon not available as an ETOPS alternate then the flow for some flights may be pushed about a bit and of course pilots these days have access to datalink and satphone. If they still want to use HF then Stockholm Radio among others are available so they are not going to be in a position of being unable to send messages to and receive messages from Prestwick OACC.

Disrupt the flow - yes. Close it down - no chance.

In terms of posting funny clips relating to the proposed strike date, I can't find it but I think the clip from the Eddie Murphy film where he hold a gun to his head and says "put your guns down or the N***** gets it".

Just waiting for the complaints about Eddie Murphy the Irish ATCO being named.

Regards,

DFC

That was Blazing Saddles, a favourite of all night shift workers the worls over.

The actor was Cleavon Little

Its messed up but MOL sounded reasonable.

It galls me to say it but if I knew no better I'd be saying screw those money grabbing ATCO's, sack em all like Reagan did years ago. (I'd also be applying for the job at those rates and hours).

From people outside ATC that I've talked to, the message of managements incompetence and lack of planning to date and into the future, the sheer lack of staff, AL's etc. and the fact that overtime is voluntary and not really desired by most staff is not getting out.

I don't do call ins but if i did I'd like to charge plenty for it and I make no apology for it, all I want is the chance to have a reasonable work life balance.

We need to get the correct message across, EB, LK, LC et al must be laughing now that the yellow harp is doing their communication work for them, Maybe its part of their onboard services, Ryar IR: how to win management and misrepresent people!!!

Our grievance is genuine, lets hope any reasonable people can be convinced of that!!!
