I recall in the early 1990s there was a business fashion that said: How many staff does it take per £/$ earned? They were soon boasting "We have 34 staff per £" or whatever it was. So the next had to be "25" and so they got into a on the table display to reach single figures. Using Outsourcing got people off the list (even though they were still being paid) so it was another drive of outsourcing. As with all fashions, that one faded but the outsourcing still looks good - on paper.

15 Jul 2022 shows 142 serving 49 ! Some big prices as well on some routes, I know it is the start of the UK Summer holidays but all good money in the bank already.

Is this not just the industry as a whole? Even the jobs for the boys at AZ have now gone, unless you are still at the likes of LH or AF.

Engineers are cheaper half way round the world even costing in flying empty to get there.

Its not just this industry, its most if not all. Everywhere around us, its a consumer-driven race the the bottom in terms of price whilst basic costs continue to rise. Like many airports, Luton is reliant on budget carriers who have massively increased traffic but also largely replaced more profitable carriers (to the airport) on domestic routes and dedicated package holiday providers.

The outcome is a basic terminal with extension after extension and customers who generally just want to be on and off their flight like they would use a bus so limited revenue for the airport (unless they can keep them waiting by the shop).

It shouldn't be a surprise that whilst the airport provides employment in a town desperate for the opportunities the airport does provide, those jobs are supported by relatively low income generating activity and so the pay is appropriately paid for what is mostly low-skilled work.

Well the Jobs Fair came and went last Friday and for being only on for 3 hours, reported 600 people turned up. Some of the job descriptions were definitely not minimum wage positions.

But most were. Strangely many of the contracts on offer covered the winter season only. So much for a long secure career in aviation.

The propaganda machine is working overtime with selective information particularly regarding its green agenda.

Any idea where I can find accurate published details of the airport's carbon footprint for the last 2-3 years?

The airport owner wants to expand the existing terminal to 21.5m passengers, which is outside the DCO process. In consultation with the airport owner the airport operator puts in a planning application on behalf of the airport owner to add the first million of the airport owners plans for an additional 3.5m passengers, as it looks better to put in several smaller applications. Of course all of the additional flights will not add to the airports carbon footprint as they will be powered by elastic bands and everyone arriving at the airport will come in electric cars.

And who decides the planning application? Why it’s the airport owner. It seems to be a somewhat corrupt process devoid of independent scrutiny.

As part of the propaganda campaign for 32m the CEO stated there will be binding limits on noise as well as other limits on surface access and pollution. This reminds me of the binding limits on the airport at the moment that the airport operator can’t meet or doesn’t want to meet. Not a problem as there is a planning application to relax those limits making the CEO’s comments total BS.

it is like his comment regarding LLAL now not planning to move millions of cubic metres of earth to save tens of thousands of lorry trips on local roads. In the consultation documents it stated that there was not going to be any lorry movements on local roads, as the infill was coming from an adjoining field.

Our new name and strapline embody these values: Luton Rising - our airport, our community, our planet.

Gosh! I’m still choking with emotion.

It should be called Luton Rising Temperature as a reminder of COP26 and the airports plans to substantially increase pollution while claiming to be green. So what's the strategy of the company name not containing the word "Airport"?

Pabely What decision? We all know it will be passed and probably with a 7-2 vote if all the councillors turn up, as the committee is not going to vote against the Councils own objective if they want to remain a councillor. Now if this was a vote about Stansted and was being heard by Uttlesford DC then the proper due process would take place rather than in my opinion this dodgy lot who will just turn up to vote, claim expenses and will suffer from acute deafness all evening when the 900 objections are discussed.

Good or bad it will be passed by planning next week.

Didn't the local STN Council waste a large amount of taxpayers money fighting that expansion against advise?
