Again, this is BS. This time last year people were predicting the end of business traffic and as such airlines were packing out leisure routes. Business traffic is now returning. People will still book their annual holidays and City breaks as people see this as a necessary trip.

I know it’s fashionable to knock the airport - and certainly some of it is very much deserved, but every airline and airport on the planet has suffered because of Covid. Having over 770K people in August is a good result, no? It’s money going back into the coffers… that is still over 9M pax over the 12 months at that rate at an airport that is no longer reliant on summer bucket and spade routes. I thought some on here wanted the airport to handle fewer passengers due to congestion?

Ive been through the airport I think 4x since the start of August - the airport is getting busier and busier but of course there is some way to go. Unless there is a real Covid resurgence (which clearly the travel industry can’t do anything about), there will be 1M passengers a month very soon again. I think it’ll be at least next summer or maybe 2023 before we get back to 2019 levels in the U.K. although in the US this is already happening, and the rest of Europe is getting close to this too.

What I’m seeing is that a lot of airlines have got rid of aircraft and now haven’t got the capacity for the longer term.

It seems our Dear Leader (BJ) and his entourage flew out of the airport on the 6th to Malaga on a Jota 146 of course not availing themselves of the niceties of the terminal!

… on the same hand, telling people to go green by getting on a private jet.

Popping to to see you no doubt.
Fact is VVIP traffic is boomin' I is very hard to join any fractional schema currently or book a flight at short notice. I suspect this sort of traffic intra Europe will go electric or hydrogen much quicker. Luton has runway slots currently so FBOs are enjoying the business.
Of course TUI have based frame at Luton for S22, a quick check of their web site shows this.
Come April 2022 full S19 schedules will be flown again, question is though people like Blue Air who have built a nice network at LHR, will they be forced back to LTN? Then again will WZY have the frames to run a full S19 schedule without seasonal leases?

I hate to break it to you, but no they didn't. Did a Jota RJ100 depart Luton for Malaga on 6th? Yes. Was it BJ? No.

The Sun Express schedules are looking pretty thin at present. According to their website/booking engine, there is nothing until December, then a handful of flights over Christmas, and nothing until May. After that, it just looks like two per week until October, unless there is more to be loaded.

Wizz to open 2x weekly (Thu + Sun) to Odesa in Ukraine from late March 2022. Should do reasonably well

After Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa, the next busiest airport in Ukraine is Kharkiv. Wizz opened a Luton-Kharkiv route in late 2018 but cut it after just a few months. I don't expect routes from Luton to any of Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv or anywhere else in Ukraine for a while

Air One, new airline at LTN!

Apologies if I'm late to the party, but just noticed there is a new airline called Air One operating from the airport to Chisinau in Moldova!

Seems to be a weekly service on a Saturday at the moment and going to three times weekly in late December.

They also offer connecting services to Kiev, St Petersburg and Moscow Vnukovo.

Great to see a new airline operating from the airport!

If you mean Fly One then they have been using Luton since at least July and at one point x4 week. I suspect Wizz will run them off the route.

With Central Beds getting their way with the M1 J11A to A6 link Road which is good for Beds but a nightmare for Luton and the airport being a bigger funnel of traffic where traffic does not want to be.....nothing like joined up infrastructure!

That link road will form one part of the Luton Bypass that will go from M1 junction 11a-A6-A505-T2 access road-New Airport Way-A505-M1 junction 10a.

Four sections missing with one part being started soon leaving three to go including one other section receiving planning permission but has no funding.

It is good to see most new road schemes actually being constructed albeit they are all some 20 years late.
However in this instance has the effect of this scheme on traffic southbound on the A6, Barton Road, New Bedford Road , Stockingstone Road and Hitchen Road been taken into account ? I accept the other linking schemes are planned. The section from the A6 to the east of Luton to meet the A505 was first shown on plans in 1935. The original Inner Ring Road of Luton was started in 1968, phase 1 . Phase 5 in a much diluted form original plans completed 2018?

Will be interesting to see the ATM stats this month, Signature & Harrods must be very pleased with the current business. Just shows you where customers want to land when runway slots are available!

Construction update

Photos taken in recent days.

Work continues on the Parkway entrance hall for people accessing the railway station or Dart from Kimpton Road. For such a small Dart train the building seems enormous. The temporary Kimpton Road entrance to the railway station is now closed until the 17th December.

This is the route for passengers using the drop off zone at the airport and will remain the route when the station opens.

While the terminal has been built on the cheap by the airport operator no expense has been spared by the airport owner when it comes to the Dart. This is the point where LLAL block paving meets rough LLAOL tarmac. Note the out of place smokers shelter that will horrify the architects.

The roof of the Dart maintenance area is complete.

Finally work continues on the area over the cut and cover tunnel. Note the empty taxi rank as there are no taxi's at the airport since Covid due to a dispute. Also there are no foreign currency facilities or working cash points as the International Currency Exchange has called in the administrators.

Now the DART Maintenance area is tucked away underground, it begs the question what will go on top of this area!

There is meant to be a pier serving a 3 stand apron coming off B pier that can be seen in the background that will be located in the former temporary drop off area.
