Luton-10
HiSky this week announced a new route from Stansted to Baia Mare / Maramures airport
AFAIK, this means every airport in Romania now has regular scheduled service to London. Brasov airport is still being built so has no commercial passenger flights yet
Are there any credible gaps for Luton to fill in eastern Europe ? Maybe Nis in Serbia ?

Odessa , the third largest city in the Ukraine could be a possibility. I remember Rijeka being flown by tour operators in the 1960-70s. Aviogenex Tu-134s anybody!

Maribor has been tried a couple of times briefly, first FR for a season or two at STN then Adria from SEN.
Osijek in Croatia also tried and failed with FR followed by a start-up at SEN that never materialised.
Padubice in Czech maintained FR for a while until Covid but don’t think it’s returned.
Mostar is the big tourist draw in Bosnia, it’s had some recent investment. Apparently Eurowings operated from Germany pre-Covid

Am I right in remembering an Animal Quarantine place behind the fuel farm near the old Britania A/W club, might have been useful for those who have forgotten their ferret passport?!

Had a look at WZZ schedules for S22, not far off S19, wish I had a full list. If these all run then Luton will be not far off what it was before, assuming bums on seats.
Is the airport operator paying it's pax duty to the airport owner again?

The accounts for LLAL up until March 31st are due out before the end of the year. Now they will make for interesting reading, as they will include 12 months of covid passenger restrictions. The 2019/2020 accounts showed big loses despite only a couple of weeks of covid passenger reductions towards the end of March.

I've been travelling through ltn a lot lately and noticed some strange goings on re mask wearing compliance. Passenger wise seems very good and inline with other airports, however the staff that's a different kettle of fish. At least 50% of staff I saw were either walking around with their masks on their chins or not at all. This was a variety of llal staff and the various outlets. Also saw at least 8 border force staff strolling around maskless. Ltn is the only airport I've been through recently where I've seen staff very aggressively enforcing passenger mask compliance too.
I'm not saying I agree or disagree on the whole mask debacle but if the staff aren't complying doesn't send a good message to everyone else does it?

LLA just reflects Luton town in general. You just need to visit a supermarket here compared to the posher towns that surround Luton. Luton has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country due to the diverse population which doesn’t help. Many people I work with still think it is no worse than flu.
Talking about airport staff there was a big airport jobs fare at the airport yesterday as companies here are struggling to fill vacancies. They normally take place for the summer season so this is the first winter one I can remember. It seems that any job is better than the shift patterns here and the low wages don’t help.
Still no taxis at the airport, Luton must be the only airport without a taxi service.

Is the lack of employees seriously affecting airport operations right now... or is it just impinging nice-to-have things ? If it is causing serious detriment, is anyone able to identify what would be done better ?

Not just Menzies. The business model for the airport, companies at the airport and its airlines is tender out everything that can possibly be tendered. The minimum service level requirements are published and in come the bids. The companies that can cut the most from the wage bill will get the contract as the biggest expense is the workforce.
Some work is kept in-house like security but the airport screwed the staff in 2019 due to greed and now they are also struggling to recruit as many left. Remember this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...herts-48527273.
The good old days at the airport are long gone. I would see the same faces for years as it was all a good laugh with plenty of banter. Now people start new jobs and last a week or two or a couple of months if we are lucky.
The employers at Luton have done many no favours by expecting people to work like slaves for little or no reward.
