Seems the terminal and CTA are cut off by floodwater. Passengers cannot get in or out. Not bad for an airport on top of a hill.

World exclusive. The flood is where it always floods, which is the tunnel under the taxiway. Maybe around 8 years ago and after many floods the airport installed what looked like large milk crates on the fire station side of the road to act as a catchment area for flood water. It didn’t work. The ironic thing is that airport activity is adding to the problem if you believe in global warming.

An additional benefit of the SuDS system has been the reduction, to a great extent, in the frequency and volume of the flooding that occurred in the neighbouring Airport Way underpass. Whilst the flooding hazard for both carriageways continues to remain categorised as ‘significant’ for a one in 100 year storm event, the severity of flooding across the access route in a 30 year event has been reduced to the category of ‘moderate’ for one carriageway whilst, for a one in ten year event, the second carriageway is deemed entirely clear.

Looking at the live traffic view on Google maps last night, New Airport Way (A1081) to past Capability Green, Airport Way, Vauxhall Way (A505), Kimpton Road, Gypsy Lane and Percival Way were totally grid locked, which was affecting traffic that was not even going to the airport.

It was total carnage yesterday not helped by the fact that the airport has no plan B. People were also wandering around like drowned rats and that was just getting from the aircraft to the terminal. The walk to the drop area was just as bad as the covered walkway ends halfway.

The first emergency service which responds to flood is housed right next door, or is that not in their job description?
Was the DART affected as the CTA Station and winding machinery are down a big hole - or has runoff water added to the problem?

Indeed. Spotted that when it was built. They saved pennies once and now it's a problem for ever.

Just like almost every airport in Europe then.
But this will be swapping more 737-800s for 737-8200s, no net increase in planes thus movements due to pax / slot restritions.
Is the cost of landing charges less due to the model, I note Sun Express send alot of Max, as did Blue Air when they are around, is there a reduction in cost from the airport?

Landing charges are published here https://www.london-luton.co.uk/Londo...9251a2be43.pdf
Chapter 14 aircraft are cheaper than non-Chapter 14 aircraft. I think the Chapter 14 is a noise designation, so the newer, quieter aircraft do seem to get a lower charge.

Except Luton has stated that the A321 NEO is noisier than what it is replacing. Not to worry, no established Luton airline will pay those published charges. It is all about passengers through the terminal door via secret deals that comes out years later.

I think they are replacing x1 320CEO and x1 321CEO with x2 321NEO so the latter should have a better cost saving. Everyone acknowledges reduced CO2 irrespective of different noise element.

I understand that Ryanair's Max 8200s seat 198 pax, against 189 on the 800s. Does this mean that, if they increase 8200 operations, they will need to review their slot allocation?
