A sad end Unfortunately the writing on the wall RE. Blue Air's demise had been evident for some time - and even by some miracle had it come back could never have hoped to survive with just 2 very old 737-500s when up against Wizz Air's 4 daily A321 operation on LTN-OTP, in addition to Ryanair serving STN-OTP 3-4 daily with 737-8s and new 737-Max's. This will now leave W6 as the sole operator on LTN-OTP, and I doubt any other airline will come in to replace Blue Air on this route.

Would Easyjet perhaps consider a return to Bucharest in 2024 with a 1x daily LTN-OTP or LGW-OTP route ?

I reckon slim chance RE. both LTN and LGW, as Wizz already have both covered, although the latter is only served 1 daily during late evening hours, versus the 4, sometimes 5 daily from LTN. Plus we have Dan Air commencing LGW-OTP in June. EZY have dipped in and out of OTP previously, so doubtful they would come back. W6 had in fact been the sole operator on LTN-BBU (Bucharest Baneasa) prior to Blue Air shifting operations from Stansted to Luton in 2010, so I suspect that we will now be reverting to a similar situation again.

Seeing N73M G550 today ( don't know if still owned by 3M) reminds me of the days when x5 3M Gulfstreams would turn up, a director to a plane.
Tonite Luton has x3 Air Hamburg coming from LBG, a Lineage and x2 Legacy within 5 mins. Something on in Paris or not very green travel?

Yes, N73M is still with 3M. Its not often they appear here now as Farnboro' is generally used (as the UK HQ is in Bracknell)

Those line up's of 3M Gulfstream's in the old days were certainly impressive....

Also, the doors on H61 (TUI) are knackered! (hence the reason they have been open for over a week!) It could be a while before they are fixed!

LRT blundered, they got caught out by the ever increasing delays so he arrived too early for the party, which was booked months in advance when he was still a Prince. As Eric Morecambe was dead they then struggled to find another replacement.

Eric Morecambe lived in a very nice area in Harpenden, prime 4+ holidays a year area yet kick up about airport noise.
Would have been good to see Eric & Ernie with Angela Rippon doing a routine in the DART terminal, now that would have been news!

Texas Instruments had a factory in Bedford and their Learjet fleet used to turn up from the USA. November Ten Ten Alpha comes to mind.

Was it 3M that used the callsign 'Mining'?

Yes, N73M would / maybe still is Mining 7 c/s.
Wobun SID always fun off 26, left, left, left, full throttle over Harpenden.
737-200s you would remember well, BY did a Liverpool for a while and the original Ryanair before they moved most ops over to Essex.
Downwind to 08 everything would come over Harpenden as well. Halcyon Days! :-)
But then alot of people worked at Hatfield & Luton but remember Radlett fondly, but times change.

There was only one Dart train operating yesterday outside the peak period with the other out of sight in the maintenance area. The Dart was still maintaining a departure every 8 minutes from both stations. The operation officially commences on Monday so not a good start if one of the trains had gone faulty.

The Dart seems to be busier than the shuttle bus ever was yet can’t be despite the bus still operating until midnight Sunday so is still carrying a few passengers.

The fares go up from £3.80 return to £9.80 return from 00.01 on the Monday. There are many passengers who still buy tickets to LAP only and not to the airport. With no ticket desk, passengers are forced to ideal with a ticket machine.

Inside the airport terminal it will be interesting to see if the ticket desk there closes on Sunday as people have always avoided the machines and join a queue to interact with a human.

I can. At this time of year (March), in 1967 and 1968 we just had Autair and Britannia. Monarch arrived in April 1968, Channel Airways January 1969 and Dan Air March 1969. That made 5. British Midland were summer season only apart from a few Jersey and Dublin flights for Xmas and New Year. Currently I believe we have 6, assuming Fly One are still managing their weekly flight. Not including cargo operators like DHL and MNG.

I posted some info on operators from the late 1960's and 1970's on Luton History and Nostalgia back in 2015. Most of the photos were sabotaged by Photobucket but the posts start from here (scroll down a bit, it goes up to 1981 - eventually):-

Fly One are currently x4 week and increase to x6 in June.
We know more new airlines want to come but ACL has it's hands tied because of terminal limits and zero bias towards new entrants.
When the Blue Air slots come up, I'm sure they will be to the highest bidder to pay off creditors, maybe around the time of 19m decision so a little more flexibility into the system but WUK will want more 321s & EZY more 320s throughput so actually little increase in movements.
Noticed an extra CargoAir 737 on a Leipzig tonight, new for the summer as usually quiet on Cargo on Sunday night other than a MNG and one DHL Leipzig?

Double Daily El Al started today, will they sneak in anything else over the summer other than 738/9s.
Prices would imply the demand this there, perhaps when the diagonal stand 42 comes online. I doubt they would want to use buses to the South Stands.

That’s it, no more shuttle buses, long live the Dart. It is quite a momentous day in the airport’s history and matches 1999 when Luton Airport Parkway first opened.

Indeed, they've now launched the Luton Airport Express website - this isn't an entirely new service as it's operated using East Midlands Railway's services between London St Pancras International and Luton Airport Parkway, however it provides customers with the option to book combined tickets so they can hop onto the DART system to get from/to the airport using just one ticket.

Not sure why they're saying on that website the journey time is as quick as 32 mins.

Their PR team needs to up their game - the train from Parkway non stop to St Pancras is considerably quicker - more like 25 mins!

I think the 32 mins is the combined train (25mins) and DART (4mins) journey, with a couple of minutes allowed for the transfer at Luton Airport Parkway station.

There are a few anomalies. The claim is the Dart completes the journey in under four minutes but most passengers will do it in 2 minutes 38 seconds. The EMA train takes on average 22 minutes in one direction and 23 minutes in the other. Allowing 5 minutes for a transfer with a Dart immediately leaving means the journey could be completed in just under 30 minutes. In reality the transfer will take longer than 32 minutes.

There is a claim that the journey from London can be done for as little as £10 but actually it is from £7.60 with no flexibility.
