These include 12 of the firm’s integrated ClearScan cabin baggage computed tomography (CT) scanners, as well as its ProPassage automated tray return systems. Installation of these systems is said to result in quicker processing of travellers at the airport’s checkpoints.

I'm inclined to agree with Danny. Both my and my other half's parents live in south London... they pretty much insist on Gatwick or Heathrow, they don't want a 6 am departure or 11 pm arrival, and they have a strong preference for a minicab to take them to/from the airport. Crowds and a cramped experience doesn't work for the over 70s. Wizzair's well-publicised propensity for cancelling at short notice is not suitable for those who are less than robust or going on an expensive holiday. Ryanair isn't suitable for over 70s unless travelling with younger relatives. People over 80 will often have valid concerns about travelling abroad with their state of health and what happens if they need medical treatment away from the family support network and outside the NHS
All of this will strongly discourage over 70s from south London from using the DART

Potential passengers with those concerns are not discouraged by DART or no DART or if it is free or not. Nor by anything else LTNwise, however they get to it. Nor are they just from south London, They are deterred from flying full stop. That they may have overseas health concerns is nothing to do with LTN or DART , those concerns apply any airport any flight any destination any operator by any travel mode from wherever they come from.

After 5 years and £68m of council taxpayers money they finally put in an application. Makes the Dart look cheap.
This is where the DCO favours the applicant as opposition groups will be lucky to raise a few thousand. It seems a little unfair though that democracy is not even handed when the local council had to be bailed out by the government.

The stand 42 area now with the new shorter stands to still accept 321s but a B777/A330 diagonal would always be a phased project.
The new stands 101- 104 always seemed an optimistic shedule but will be needed for the summer season.
The contactor always gets the work so why rush putting more resources into the job!

Help TUI with access to hangars when another aircraft is parked in front and Biz Jets positioning out to other airfields, only to return days later for next job.
Sure the tug drivers will appreciate it.

From all the hoo-hah about the DART, I am still not sure:
- If I am dropping someone off by car at Parkway - I do not have to pay for that? They just buy the DART ticket?
- At the terminal, the person has a fully undercover walk into the terminal?

There is no drop off at Dart Parkway apart from stopping on yellow lines in the street around a 125m away. No covered walkway from the street but there is a walkway at the other end to the terminal. No indication that a passenger can buy a ticket from the other side of the railway tracks and then cross the BR railway station. As the Dart is only open on random days from the 10th for 4 hours a day I would be using the airport drop off zone for the next month.

LCY going live with the new scanners soon.

With processing times being much faster they thus only need 12 which replace 14 and some.

From memory, the plan for 18 million was to put in 18 lanes, this got reduced to 16 and now 12? with the potential of another million passengers.
Sounds like a plan. A bad plan, as the pinch point is not only the X-ray machines but the body metal detectors. People will still be wearing belts, shoes and watches that have to be removed.

Thanks LTNman. As I thought. Good area to drop off and go, reduce congestion on the roads and make better use of the Dart. Nope.
Perhaps the fee for car drop of is what they are after?

The drop off fee goes to the airport operator while the Dart fare goes to the airport owner. Dart Parkway was going to have a drop off area but now it won’t, which was a last minute decision. Did the operator kick up a fuss, as the Dart would have been an alternative route for a single passenger drop off.

The Technology is is use in US and has been tested at Amsterdam, Heathrow T3, O2 and other places.
"The benefits to passengers are significant. A trial of both changes at Ireland’s Shannon Airport halved the time passengers spend going through security screening."
aka, half the need for 18 lanes makes 12 generous for the future requirements.
Anyone been to O2 or LHR T3 and can confirm experience?
