What's the market for MAN-Iraq? Can't be tourism to a country in a civil war with ISIS. What's the business case?

I presume the long holds currently are due to the weather at MAN? Its foggy here in Bolton so I would guess that is the problem down there too?

SV123 has been around the hold about 8 times already.

*edit* now 15 times around the hold, how much fuel did they load?! Interestingly most others are making approaches, there's only SV & SN holding.. Cat III issue for them?

Flybe have announced some route enhancements from 5th Feb. Can't link else I'll fall foul of the pprune rules! Google flybe, click the link then go to media at bottom of the page then news archive then January 2015

AMS going 12 weekly we knew about but here are the extra bits and pieces:
Extra 4 weekly (Mon to Thurs) to Belfast using EMB195
Extra Isle of Man on Sundays and EMB195s to be used on frequency from Mon to Thurs)
Milan gets the EMB195 on Mon + Sat plus there's a few occasions when they'll operate 2 daily
Newquay get an extra Sunday service
Extra 4 weekly to Paris (Mon to Thurs) with several service operated by EMB195

The NQY-MAN Sunday winter increase actually runs until the end of the summer schedule.

Assume this is in place of the 2nd daily Saturday service from previous summers. However with the route performing well in summer and winter it wouldn't surprise me to see extra Friday, Saturday and Monday rotations added at the least. The route could easily sustain double daily in my opinion.

Manchester business news and reviews from the Manchester Evening News team.

Another award but little point suggesting in one paragraph Government should recognise the national importance of Manchester then suggesting....

... it's great for the NWEST!

These PR puff pieces need consistency of approach.

Last week they mentioned

"Northern Gateway , #FlyManchester campaign, part of national rail network. ..." a much wider remit.

This week we have suddenly become very Mancunian !

Personally I wish the M.E.N could find another picture than the one that shows a bmi aircraft in front of the old control tower which they sometimes use.

CX, SQ, QR, SV, VS and either DL or UA lined up on T2 might be rather nice. I'm not sure a couple of out of date shuttles on the domestic pier conveys the right impression.

Not sure the ramifications of Hainan has fully sank in, this really is great news. It is now up to the various organisations not just in Manchester but right across the North of England to get involved in ensuring its a success.

When officially annouced an immediate start would be contact with the Chinese Travel Agency who last year successfully brought in the three plane loads of Chinese tourists via Birmingham.

Not withstanding Stratford I understand a substantial part of the tour took in Chester, Liverpool (Beatles Tour), Chatsworth and York.

There has to be a catalyst to bring all relevant organisations together.

For too long the emphasis on long haul from Manchester has been on outbound traffic with Manchester being the focal point. Whilst Manchester as a City has never experienced such a boom in construction it cannot possibly support all these long haul services on its own, and it must embrace a plocy of expanding inbound traffic more readily.

Cathay are sponsoring the Chinese New Year celebrations in Manchester and the Mancheseter International Festival , great but maybe recalibrating the strategy to widen the remit across a much larger footprint would be in order !

Just one VERY, VERY, minor point of dispondency ROUGE !

Reported "on here" that the schedule is now more or less the same as last year ? Quite a hole based on the year round schedule !

You can't win them all but it would be nice to.....

For those of us who may have lost track slightly on Hainan, please can we have an update on the status?

Do I understand that although not yet bookbable, on some system (Chroma or GDS?) the flights are now loaded with arrival and departure times 4 x weekly?

Do we know if ground handling arrangements are in place?

Has the necessary government approval been obtained, or is this not required as it fits within the bilateral agreement?

Have Hainan applied for LHR flights and does the outcome of that in any way affect the decision to operate to MAN? Or is Hainan in effect excluded from LHR anyway?

Apologies for asking for clarification if in fact the position is clear to everyone else.

Rouge

The Rouge start of end of June has missed the boat of many VFR traffic.
Many Air Transat flights in May & early June are almost full & premium seats are mostly sold out.
The Rouge ground handling was terrible last year. I flew premium Rouge & was less than impressed all round.
My west coast trip this year is via LHR Air Canada, premium eco, which is substantially cheaper than Air Transat & cheaper than Rouge premium via YYZ, the added bonus is of daily year round departures.
The offering from MAN once again falls short of capacity & the LHR services are heavily discounted (both BA & Air Canada) to ensure they fill up those big jets from that "leading hub".

Agree with Bagso post number 655.

The guy from Cathay in the article refers twice to Manchester being in the
North East.

Just as well the pilots know where they are going.

It's a school holidays focussed summer peak flight, Air Canada used to do this out of PIK a lot, it's the same leisure market. Also you won't be getting a cheap seat and they'll probably sell out, end result is a profitable year. The question is where is the aircraft being used from the other 40 weeks of the year and why is it more profitable?
btw Aer Lingus and Rouge are now head to head on year round DUB-YYZ but I wonder if anyone is making money?

Iraqi Airways news plus view of a local travel agent
