Ryanair Limoges/Carcassonne

It seems that both the Limoges and Carcassonne are swapping from Liverpool as they are not bookable after March when they appear bookable from Manchester.

I do wonder if Beziers and Carcassone will both feature in 2017. They are awfully close to each other in terms of the Ryanair network.

12 weekly Rotterdam on Flybe from 8th February.

Obviously the undisclosed new route that the ACL report was referring to in the Flybe section.

Article from the FT

He is either unbelievably pompous and a complete imbecile alternatively its a smart way of dismissing your opponents! ie Manchester, with some misinformation in the national press!

Clearly the Heathrow CEO didn't follow the Chinese Premiers visit to Manchester re Beijing nor is he aware of the 95% load factors on the daily MAN - Hong Kong, which last time I checked was in China.

Hopefully Mr O'Toole will respond " in kind".

Heathrow lays groundwork for third runway as revenues rise
Tanya Powley, Transport Correspondent

Heathrow airport is preparing designers, architects and suppliers to build its third runway as it hopes to receive the go-ahead from the government in December.
The group said it would look to award contracts in January for the workers it will need in the first couple of years to receive planning consent.
·
“We are aiming to get a positive decision from the government in December and then we’ll be able to award those contracts the following month which will let us get on with things quickly,” said John Holland-Kaye, chief executive.
Mr Holland-Kaye said he remained confident that the government would give Heathrow the backing to build its third runway, over its rival Gatwick.
He said the timing of the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Britain this month highlighted the urgent need to expand Heathrow.

“If the government wants to be China’s partner in the west you need to be able to trade with all the major cities in China. At the moment we’ve only got four. There is no likelihood that any of the other airports in the UK are going to be able to fill in the direct regular flights to Chinese cities,” said Mr Holland-Kaye

His comments came as Heathrow announced a 4.1 per cent rise in turnover to £2.07bn for the nine months to September 30. The number of travellers passing through its terminals rose 2.3 per cent to a record 56.9m on the back of a good summer.
Heathrow said it continued to make progress in reducing its overheads. It has agreed a plan with the UK’s aviation regulator to remove £600m of costs during the five years between 2014 and 2018. It has already secured £400m of cost efficiencies.
Mr Holland-Kaye said the renegotiation of its defined benefit pension plan, which came into effect from October 1, would further improve costs. The changes include the introduction of an annual cap of 2 per cent on future increases to pensionable pay for active members, resulting in a one-off reduction of £236m in the scheme’s liabilities.
It is also looking to make more savings on employee costs. By the end of 2018, Heathrow aims to have about a third of its employees on salary packages that are about 30 per cent lower than existing terms and conditions.

Does that include his and the board salaries ?

Oh please, let's not get into another Heathrow rant fest.

To change the subject:
A question.....
Saudia. Was I imagining it or did I read here that Saudia were going daily in the Spring with a B789? Also in the dim and distant past I recall them 'seriously considering' Riyadh. Any truth in this?

The alternatives to RUH are not much good - long layover with Emirates for example.
The best option on my previous two trips has been LH via Frankfurt. The freight alone on such a flight might make it attractive.

All names,

Saudia were looking into expansion from Manchester, but, I'm lead to believe they wanted to confirm the reliability of the B787-9 (obviously a new type for them) before committing to such expansion.

Meanwhile, the regular B747F freight flights to Taif continue. One this week and another in 2 weeks time.

All Names Taken

When the boss of Heathrow rubbishes suggestions in the FT, that there are no airports in the UK that can support Chinese services I do think it's legitimate to counter ?

And it's placed HERE for a reason which isn't nessesarily obvious to you but may be to others.

All names taken, I'm sure you are right on the first, although of course there is a huge difference between "may go" and "are going" and I don't recall the context.

Other possible long haul developments next year referred to by posters were CX increasing to 8 x weekly with continuing 4 x B777 plus 4 x A350; and UA to ORD but I get the impression the latter is now less likely.

As to remarks by Mr Holland-Kaye, if he makes controversial and misleading statements, which in this case apply to Manchester but he's done it regarding Gatwick in the past, then I don't see why they shouldn't be challenged.

Flybe Rotterdam now bookable

BE1931 MAN 0700 RTM 0930
BE1932 RTM 0955 MAN 1030

Monday to Saturday

BE1935 MAN 1630 RTM 1900
BE1936 RTM 1925 MAN 1950

Monday to Friday

Sunday shows 2 flights to Rotterdam (1440 and 1850) but only 1 return at 2100, so not quite sure what that's all about?

You are quite right, but I hadn't realised until checking a map!

Would flybe be a better fit for Lyon with a higher frequency than say easyjet with just 2 or 3 flights weekly?

On Nice, Jet2 have been very cautious with their seasonal flights at less than daily. I suspect one reason may be that easyjet were well established on LPL to Nice.

Yes No, Yes No, Yes No. Or is it yes again??

Air India seem remarkably consistent at changing their minds.

Air India have just announced a 3rd daily Heathrow. If they have been up here presumably it may have been a negotiating ploy.... But who knows ?

So, after a little tinkering on the iPad, it seems Manchester should comfortably reach the 25m passenger milestone next summer.

There are 22 new routes in 2016, some new winter routes heading into the summer and some decent increases on other routes.

The 22 new routes are:

Boston, Kavala and Los Angeles with Thomas Cook
Islamabad with Shaheen Air
Aruba, Dubai and Keflavik with Thomson
Beijing with Hainan
Rome and Alicante with Vueling
Naples, Kraków and Girona with Jet2
Brindisi, Bratislava, Malta, Limoges and Carcassone with Ryanair
Palma with Small Planet and Air Europa
Rotterdam with Flybe.

Rumours or Waterford with VLM, Podgorcia with Montenegro Airlines, 6 new routes with Easyjet, 1-2 new routes with Delta/Virgin and more expansion from Thomas Cook and Thomson.

Increases on routes are Athens, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Hannover, Munich, Prague, Barcelona, Faro, Alicante, Palma, Valencia, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Edinburgh, Keflavik, Milan, Basle, New York, Orlando, Las Vegas , Islamabad, Dubai and more.

Rumoured expansion includes 4 extra flights from Cathay Pacific, 3 extra flights from Saudia and Virgin Atlantic.

New routes in winter heading through to summer are Austrian and Easyjet to Vienna and Ryanair to Bremen.

New cargo includes Saudia to Taif, Air Bridge to various points, Lufthansa from Los Angeles and DHL to Leipzig.

Not a bad little list!

Very interesting summary, LAX.

Just a couple of observations / refinements.

- Whilst you do mention DXB in your list of increases, it is worth emphasising what a large increase this could be. According to Seljuk's post No.3114 [17 Oct] a fourth daily Emirates schedule is proposed as EK29/30 operated by B77W, and EK19/20 is expected to remain a 2-class A380 operation into Summer 2016. If confirmed, these changes add over 500 round-trip seats per day to the MAN schedule. Put another way, this increase offers approximately double the capacity of the new Hainan and Shaheen long-haul services put together.

- As with Austrian A/L, the Iberia Express schedule to MAD also started very late in the S2015 season and will be predominantly incremental to S2016 (all the way through to September).

- Brussels Airlines is adding another daily rotation to Brussels, though we will need to check whether this continues through S2016 season.

- We must also consider drags on growth, and the good news here is that there aren't many at this stage. The very damaging Monarch Airlines cutbacks have now worked their way through the calendar and will not offset growth in the monthly stats going forward. The loss of Virgin Little Red and BMIR will also have worked through the calendar fully by late Spring 2016, clearing the way for better Summer percentage growth.

- For the last few years, the inexorable decline of air services between MAN and London have seen progressively less capacity offered each Summer. This has been a major drag on MAN's growth. But S2015 looked like the final plunge with the combination of BA cutbacks and Little Red's withdrawal. The S2015 MAN-LHR Shuttle frequency leaves little scope for further capacity cutting unless BA were to throw in the towel completely.

- There are some other cuts to consider - Air France/KLM and Swiss have cut capacity, FlyBe has trimmed some routes (but added to others). But across the board, capacity upgrades are significantly outpacing cutbacks for S2016 at this stage. Of course, service withdrawals often happen at short notice and with minimal publicity, but fingers crossed MAN can avoid another MON/VIR L Red/BMR shocker this time around.

- You are ahead of me with your forecast of new routes by VIR/DAL and EZY. Presumably they will need to be announced and opened for bookings soon if they are happening. Are you aware of any timescale? I've already booked four of my own flights for S2016 and will soon add to this ... I'm sure I'm not alone. If these carriers want to maximise bookings they need to be making their full programmes known or the early-bookers won't take them into consideration.

So far S2016 is looking very strong for MAN. Is that a half-full glass I see before me? ;-)

Thanks LAX and Shed. Yes 2015 really is turning out to be another vintage year for route announcements☺ It's great to see all of the hard work at MAN paying off. Looking forward to 2016. Well done everyone!

Thanks for the post Shed.

What capacity has Air France cut? It still 3 daily with A321/A320 listed?

Swiss will be 2 daily F100 Zurich next summer as they were this summer, so again, not a cut as far as I can tell.

But, regardless, I don't think even the most avid of glass half empty searchers can argue that next summer doesn't have the potential to be something special. While there have been few 'headline grabbers' in terms of new airlines like BHX has had, it's been a long time since I have seen such a huge growth across the board, and with the majority of that growth being based carriers, means even more jobs than just a simple turn around.

But, enjoy the half full glass, it's a nice treat!

There is no likelihood that any of the other airports in the UK are going to be able to fill in the direct regular flights to Chinese cities,” said Mr Holland-Kaye
No other airport will be linking secondary airports for an obvious reason: MAN, BHX, GLA, etc., are spokes feeding hubs therefore routes would be to HKG, PVG, PEK, etc., in a classic hub-and-spoke arrangement, as is the case. LHR is different.

Perhaps this is what he meant, if so it wasn't expressed particularly well. If he meant that no other UK airport could support flights to primary airports in China, then clearly it's patent nonsense, as they can and do.
