“If the government wants to be China’s partner in the west you need to be able to trade with all the major cities in China. At the moment we’ve only got four. There is no likelihood that any of the other airports in the UK are going to be able to fill in the direct regular flights to Chinese cities,” said Mr Holland-Kaye
No other airport will be linking secondary airports for an obvious reason: MAN, BHX, GLA, etc., are spokes feeding hubs therefore routes would be to HKG, PVG, PEK, etc., in a classic hub-and-spoke arrangement, as is the case. LHR is different.

Perhaps this is what he meant, if so it wasn't expressed particularly well. If he meant that no other UK airport could support flights to primary airports in China, then clearly it's patent nonsense, as they can and do.

re LHR CEO comments!

"By the end of 2018, Heathrow aims to have about a third of its employees on salary packages that are about 30 per cent lower than existing terms and conditions."

Does that include his and the board salaries ?
What do you think!!

Oh please, let's not get into another Heathrow rant fest.
Agreed.

LAX

Any truth in rumours of Air India starting at MAN?
Not a chance! (oh dear said that about BHX and was badly wrong).

So, after a little tinkering on the iPad, it seems Manchester should comfortably reach the 25m passenger milestone next summer.

There are 22 new routes in 2016, some new winter routes heading into the summer and some decent increases on other routes.

The 22 new routes are:

Boston, Kavala and Los Angeles with Thomas Cook
Islamabad with Shaheen Air
Aruba, Dubai and Keflavik with Thomson
Beijing with Hainan
Rome and Alicante with Vueling
Naples, Kraków and Girona with Jet2
Brindisi, Bratislava, Malta, Limoges and Carcassone with Ryanair
Palma with Small Planet and Air Europa
Rotterdam with Flybe.

Rumours or Waterford with VLM, Podgorcia with Montenegro Airlines, 6 new routes with Easyjet, 1-2 new routes with Delta/Virgin and more expansion from Thomas Cook and Thomson.

Increases on routes are Athens, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Hannover, Munich, Prague, Barcelona, Faro, Alicante, Palma, Valencia, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Edinburgh, Keflavik, Milan, Basle, New York, Orlando, Las Vegas , Islamabad, Dubai and more.

Rumoured expansion includes 4 extra flights from Cathay Pacific, 3 extra flights from Saudia and Virgin Atlantic.

New routes in winter heading through to summer are Austrian and Easyjet to Vienna and Ryanair to Bremen.

New cargo includes Saudia to Taif, Air Bridge to various points, Lufthansa from Los Angeles and DHL to Leipzig.

Not a bad little list!
Excellent, keep it up Ringway!
