I find it difficult to believe that easyJet told SEN they were withdrawing the fourth A319 last Summer because of the taxiway situation because if they had given them notice of that intention surely Stobart would have spent the money to remedy the situation. Their stated aim is to grow passenger numbers and easyJet opening additional routes must be the simplest way of doing so. To alienate your core customer who offers such potential growth makes no sense.

That must be a question for SEN's management because I have absolutely no idea why.

A bit too much pessimism here I feel.. It's a great airport that has done really well.. Every start up pauses for breath.. Work on the a127 is constant. It's not the road width but the many junctions as you approach Southend that cause the problems. These are addressed almost constantly one after the other.
It will never be a motorway and the airport will never attract enough traffic to warrant smashing a spur road through rochford and the surrounding countryside. The rail line will at some stage be as good as c2c.. But these things take time .. Consolidation is no bad thing.. And a few more years track record of being an successful small easy jet base will attract future customers.

I agree with the road is causing problems. Just remember what David lister said the terminal was originally expected to handle two million passengers by 2020. But this year (2014) .we expect to handle more than one million passengers and up to 2.5 million Annually in three years time.

Nothing to do with Volotea it all depends on the charterer of the aircraft in this case Thomson.

Our Airport I did not realize that taxiway rehabilitation was so secretive in Southend unless of course it is a another temporary solution similar to the diverted Bravo centreline just to keep the stakeholders happy for a few months !! Unless of course SEN have not got planning permission or CAA approval !

If the airport is hovering between profit and losses all spending will be painful so the question to be asked is does the upgrade of the taxiway represent value for money and will the cost pay an income?

Is a backtrack the end of the world when at busy airports easyjet just queue up and wait probably longer than they would at Southend with its taxiway issue?

If landing traffic on 24 has to backtrack the whole length of the runway to exit at Alpha then departing traffic being pushed back onto Alpha may be delayed in doing so. In that situation aircraft cannot "queue up" for departure on Alpha. Bravo, with its diverted centreline, can at present be used for arrivals in such circumstances but who knows how long it may be before that suffers more subsidence and becomes suddenly unusable.

I just cannot believe that the cost of rebuilding and slightly reconfiguring Charlie can be so great as to allow the current situation to continue. I hope that ourairport is correct and the matter is "in hand" to be rectified.

Via Air Humberside: Adria Airways has said its new seasonal service between Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport and London Southend, which is to launch on June 1, is selling “better than expected”. The Slovenian carrier will operate the route three times per week, eeach Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, with a mix of Airbus A319 and Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft. Although services are scheduled to run until September 29, Adria says it is considering extending the flights, with a final decision to be made by the end of the month. The route marks the first time Adria has operated scheduled flights from Slovenia’s second largest city in fifteen years. Previously, the carrier’s CEO, Mark Anžur, said the airline aims to develop Maribor into a low cost hub, with additional flights to be added in 2016.

It is a encouraging news from Adria Airways. They are also awaiting for added A319 to delivery in May to prepare adding route from Maribor Airport.

Seems that whichever company at Southend that was tasked with preparing La Compagnie's 757 for the inaugural Luton - New York has failed to complete the work on time for reasons unknown

Be careful what you write LTNman. Your anti-Southend comments are often unnecessary and only stir up things with more boring debates.

Wasn't a criticism but reading the post I can see that it could appear to be so I have modified it . As stated we don't know the reason why.
