OK I see, the plan is page 40 within the Design & Access Statement which comprises one of the Documents listed in the planning application 15/00190/FUL.

Tagron

I think this new taxiway plan was drawn up some six months ago but still no word as to whether it will be acted upon. I note that a holding loop at the 06 threshold also features on the plan and that would certainly be a good addition in terms of runway utilisation. The 'new' location for any new MRO hangar at the northern end of Bravo also seems sensible. Whether any of this will ever see the light of day remains to be seen.

I see that today the Rochford District Council's Planning Officer has recommended approval of the solar farm, the decision to be made by the Development Comittee on May 21

But they had better not find any grass snakes on the site.

Why are the airport keeping quite about taxiway problem. Does it need to have to be secret or have they admit there is a problem with taxiaway ? Are you talking about taxi away West C3 access to runway 06 ?

Jolly good to see that the airport have finally updated their website to a more modern version.

Jolly bad to see that Abellio Greater Anglia have published their "new" Summer timetable with no improvements at all in respect of the late / early trains. And when are they finally going to replace the outdated rolling stock that operates on this route?

Website

Wow that is a huge improvement! Exactly what was needed to bring it in line with other airports.

Why would the airport want to publicly discuss any such issue, except with anybody operating into the airport, or the regulators, if it affected operations? What's it got to do with anybody else?

I tweeted Greater Anglia about their old rolling stock asking when it would be replaced. The answer was we are hoping new stock will come with the next long franchise which starts in October 2016.

non material considerations

The website looks lovely. It won't attract any new passengers because people book flights based upon availability, price and location; not on the basis of how an airport website performs.

The lack of early morning or late night trains is immaterial to the airport's business plan. They knew about the lack of trains and still decided to invest in the airport.

Results out soon (just 14 days to go).

"They knew about the lack of trains and still decided to invest in the airport."

They certainly knew what the train timetables were at the time when they drew up their development plans for the airport but they definitely did not accept that to be a satisfactory situation going forward. For a long time they thought that they could persuade Greater Anglia to offer earlier and later trains, either by direct negotiation or by lobbying the Department of Transport to put pressure on Network Rail/Greater Anglia to make that possible. It could be said that they were overconfident in the assumption that such an outcome could be easily achieved but it certainly did form part of their business plan that there needed to be earlier and later trains.

My criticism of them is that once it became clear that Network Rail would not reduce the overnight track closure times to allow such additional trains to run they should have taken matters into their own hands and laid on coaches to cover early and late flights. That was still what I hoped might happen at the start of this year but no such arrangement has yet been forthcoming.

Does anyone know who is coming in from MAN today on BMIR? I know Southend were supposed to fly up there, but the flight is too early for them.

Ipswich coming back from Blackburn? Man City coming down for Spurs tomorrow perhaps?

These sorts of charters are not something I have heard too much about SEN receiving.

PASSENGERS flying from Southend to Faro face a seven hour delay because of a technical issue with the aircraft.
Will the technical issue be turning it back into a 319??
(check the picture on the link...)

While Southend is great for passing through I can't think of a worse airport to spend 9 hours in as I always like to check-in 2 hours before a flight.

I mean how many trips to the same shop can you make to pass the time?

I'm not so sure, there is also McDonalds and Home Bargains at the retail park, and if you have kids treat Pets at Home as a petting zoo! Pretty sure it's also the only airport where you can nip round to a chippie. If you're confident of waiting time, you could even go to the seafront!

More seriously, it is no worse than many other airports around the UK and Europe. There are plenty with just a single shop and cafe so SEN trumps those, and indeed quite a lot with not even that. I once spent three hours with 150+ Pax at Poitiers with just a vending machine.

Also per the Echo article on yesterday's delays, contrary to usual procedure Easyjet were keeping the check-in open until an hour before the retimed flight so hopefully the passengers would have been able to delay their arrival at the airport.

I think in this instance easyJet were able to advise pax of the delay at check-in/bag drop so they won't have been trapped in departures and the check-in counters were kept open until one hour before the revised departure time for that flight. As it wasn't a 'rolling delay' it gave an opportunity to visit the 'delights' of Southend-on-Sea by hopping on the train.

But i wonder how many did actually leave the airport. The Vulcan was worth a closer look though.

Adria

Nice to see some long term ambition for the Maribor-SEN route. They are considering operating the route 3x weekly throughout the winter season (decision at the end of May), then possibly up to daily in Summer 16 should things go well.
