Sorry, on a slightly different topic for a moment please - anyone on here a member of any GA clubs based out of SEN? I'm curious to understand how well CA and GA co-exist at SEN? Does SEN ATC openly accommodate healthy buoyant GA movement's at the field whilst commercial movements are active? I'm wondering will it get to a point where GA will be killed off altogether - which will be sad in my opinion.
Interested in views from any GA pilots on here or CFIs.

If we say "what about tourists and the Lake District and...", then in terms of domestic travel Oxenholme is even quicker, and also closer to where people want to be. They'd be more likely to be attracted to flying if they were coming from abroad; and the place they're coming from probably has a better service to Manchester than Carlisle can ever have.
CAX to AMS and DUB maybe, (along with summer Saturday Jersey because almost every airport that doesn't have a sandy runway can apparently support that)? More than that? LCY at the biggest push? I really can't see it, though.
But who can tell... it doesn't seem like that long ago we were all firing up our Autoroute CDs to find out where Luton was, to work out whether we really should call 0870 6 000 000...
I hope it does work though. It would be nice to see a new regional airport appear to take the place of one of the many that's sadly departed :-(

We knew a month ago that the FSC route was not going to operate; it was the reason why which was unclear. I see that "operational reasons" are being quoted as that reason. Having been involved with French airports for 10 years I suspect it was the cost for Customs and Immigration attendance which may be that "operational reason". As all 12 new routes were announced at quite short notice that aspect may not already have been agreed.

This is exactly the type of negative reputational harm SEN will continue to endure if it does not get its act together. We're in, we're out, we're on, we're off, blah, blah, blah.
It's a master class in what NOT to do.

Yes, I know we all knew about a month ago; perhaps what I should have said is "At long last it's been confirmed..." . Why it took them so long is the greatest cause for concern as per mik3bravo's post. As Expressflight says, perhaps it's Customs and Immigration problems.
Stobarts have talked consistently about it being an Atr-42 (well, that's what was quoted in the planning application...). No mention of prices.

From SEN's Facebook page:
"There's been celebrations at the airport today as the first fourteen new members of Stobart Air crew graduated and received their 'wings' - meaning they are now able to fly.
They are the first of a number of new staff hired locally specifically to work on the 11 new Stobart Air, in collaboration with Flybe, services which start from the airport in May."
Very smart they look too. Let's hope they are able to have long and enjoyable careers flying from SEN.....

I note from the Bournemouth thread that the FR route to Las Palmas is being dropped next winter, loads haven't been particularly spectacular. So not just SEN. Logic would say these flights should be rammed full with the problems in Egypt etc, and the Lanzarote and Tenerife flights seem fine. So is there something else going on? Too many seats being offered for the accommodation available?

Well as one door closes, another one opens. Perhaps an alternative 2x weekly winter sun destination will be added? Is a replacement destination for the shelved 2x weekly Figari route also likely?
Thomson Summer 2018 brochure is available from the 20th April. Would be nice to see another destination or two added (such as Ibiza which they originally were going to add then didn't). However, they have added the second Volotea PMI flight this year which is at least some growth.

mik3bravo - not just a vibe; hotels in beach resorts in Spain have been widely reported to be raising their prices by a significant amount due to places like Tunisia, Egypt and Turkey being viewed by both Joe Public as less desirable than they were a few years ago

The value of the £ abroad certainly doesn't help the outbound market.
IF Southend becomes recognised as a "London" airport it may become successful with tourism to UK though...post-Brexit will be interesting.
